Site Admins

Site Admins are administrators who have the highest level of control over the entire board. These members can control all facets of board operation, including setting permissions, banning users, etc.

Avatar

Avatars are small images that are displayed next to a username. Avatars can be changed in your profile and settings.

BBCode

BBCode is a special way of formatting posts (bold, italic, etc.). It is code used on what and how something is displayed. You can use it in posts and private messages.

Category


A category is a group of forums.

Cookie

A cookie is a small piece of data put onto the user's computer. Cookies are used with phpBB to store login information (used for automatic logins).

Forums


Forums are containers for topics and are inside the categories, i.e. News and Announcements and FAQs are inside the category News.

Founder

A founder is a special board administrator.

IP address

An IP address, or Internet Protocol address, is a unique address that identifies a specific computer or user.

Mods

Mods are global moderators who look after the forums from day to day. They have the authority to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate.

Posts


Posts are inside topics (threads).

Private Messages


Private messages are a way for registered members to communicate privately through your board without the need to fall back to e-mail or instant messaging. They can be sent between users that cannot be viewed by anyone other than the intended recipient.

Session


A session is a visit to this forum. A session is how long you spend on the forums. It is created when you login deleted when you log off. If sessions were not preserved, then you would find yourself being logged out every time you clicked on a link in the forum.

Signature

A signature is a message displayed at the end of a user's post. Signatures are set by the user.

Style

A style is made up of a template set, image set, and stylesheet. A style controls the overall look of your forum.

Sub-forum


Sub-forums are forums that are nested in, or located in, other forums. An example is the Recipe sub-forum inside SHEs in the Kitchen.

Topics

Topics (also called threads) are a collection of posts and are are inside the forums, i.e. Avatars, Registration and Sister Sites are topics inside the forum FAQs.

UCP/User Control Panel

The UCP, or User Control Panel, is the central point from which users can manage all of the settings and features that pertain to their accounts.
