We did discuss having the vet make a house call, but that has the same problems - how to get the dog to go somewhere it doesn't want to go. I do realize that dog training would help in this type of situation. But this particular dog doesn't respond to training like our other dogs. He doesn't have an ounce of aggression in him, but he does have his mind made up about entering a building and wearing a collar. It was an emotional couple of hours. DH size & strength allowed him to literally picked the 80lb dog up, cradle him in his arms and carried the dog to the vehicle. Once at the vet office they brought a gurney to the parking lot, loaded up the dog and rolled him into the clinic. After running several tests, we made the decision to put DDog to sleep.
DS10 and a friend were texting during all this and the friend asked DS10 to come over to his house. I called the Mom to verified she was okay with this. We all thought the distraction of playing would be good for DS10 while he processes everything. DS10 was sad but will be okay with time passing.
I'm going to text the person in charge of the speech contest and tell her DS10 won't be participating this time. It just isn't the day for DS10 to tackle another emotional event.
This morning DD dropped DGD7 off to spend the day with us. Today is Fall Break so DGD7 doesn't have school.
