My days hardly ever go as planned. It took me a long long time to not get upset about that.

I've been out and dropped papers off at Mortgage broker. I was surprised that my increase in insurance from $300,000 to $1M per occurrence only cost us $153.00!

Returned a bunch of things at H D for credit and took my burned out fluorescent bulb to their recycle. Back home to help load lumber and more paperwork. I am done except if I have to make a trip out to get helper to job when his class is over. I'm surprised he hasn't called yet.

Hello all!

I'm sorry the job didn't work out for ddil, Harriet. It sounds like they could have been a bit more transparent about the nature of the job from the beginning. Or maybe it changed as the interview process went on? Still not fair, but the second scenario happened to our friend RB this spring, so I know that happens. ((HUGS)) to her.

My day yesterday certainly didn't go as planned. To start with, I scraped the side of my 5 month old car at the gas station. It was completely my fault. I was in a hurry and impatient and didn't maneuver well and ended up rubbing against a concrete pylon trying to make a tight turn to get to a pump. Ugh. I was pretty upset with myself. When I told dh, he was amazingly unconcerned about it. He even said that it was just preparation for dd21 to scrape it even more; she put lovely long "racing stripes" on dh's car by scraping it against a pylon at a bank. Hmm... must be a genetic thing? The scrape on my car isnt' too big, and I think I can gently scrape the paint from the pylon off my car. It is barely dented. Otherwise, I might look into getting it fixed correctly. Then, at work, I jammed the copier really well when I was copying pages for my students' homework assignment. After 3 other people looked at it, it finally was fixed -- but after I'd gone back to my classroom. I was copying during break time. About 10 minutes later, my supervisor kindly stopped by my room, got my homework assignment from me, and copied it for me. Then, when I was ready to go home from work, I discovered that I'd locked my keys in the car. I've never done that before. Dh picked me up as he was coming home from his workplace. Boy, I needed a do over with several things yesterday.

Dfriend JT headed out this morning. I spent all morning at the moms group and got home a bit late. It was 1 pm before I'd made my lunch and sat down to eat it. I haven't done anything since then; I indulged in an episode of a TV show while eating lunch, and that grew into 2 episodes. That's enough wasting time for me; I need to get something done today.

I was going to do sprints today, but dh suggested a rest day for a longer run tomorrow, which is what he's doing. The weather has been wet and rainy, but it hasn't rained for about an hour. Tomorrow's forecast isn't very inspiring either; I hope it works out -- because I can't run long on Saturday. I'm doing a 5K Twinkie Run for a local charity. DH, dfriend S, and RB are doing the run too! And I'm planning on trying dh's yoga-ish barre class Sunday afternoon. He loves it. I don't expect to be able to do even half of it.

Tonight is Thursday dinner. Dh's colleague can't make it, but dfriend RB has invited a friend. We may be our standard party of 7.

In the next 3 hours, I need to:
- finish the a.m. routine (kitchen, make bed)
- spruce up the house (quick vac of living areas, spiff main bathroom)
- run errands - WF at a minimum. I need fresh cilantro and naan bread for dh's Indian curry dinner tonight. A trip to Target would be helpful too.
- start helping dh with dinner: start rice cooker, cut up cauliflower to be roasted, help cut up whatever dh needs for the curry.

Broken report is fixed. Bane of my existence report (no shows) is deferred until coworker finishes database mods. Anything I could write now would need a massive rewrite! Just in case you worry I might get bored, a new problem has come up to contend with, plus the long long list of pending reports and mods that are always on my desk. I call 'em job security. Two levels up boss wants to attract more report duties to our group. Even more job security. This is important, because the governor is talking about state employee furloughs. They have in the past been two weeks. Worst of all, you don't get to pick the days you are furloughed. They shut down whole buildings saving that cost as well as salaries. Bleah.

helia: For years, I have kept a combination box (H D or L owes) zip tied to my cars. Just the right size for an extra key. A would be thief could find it, but would not know the combination. By the time he could retrieve the key, he would attract a lot of attention crawling under my car!

And as a plus to what Elizabeth said, I used to have a chip key for my ignition in my van so you needed that exact key to start the car. I talked the key cutting guy to cut me a key without the chip. It would get me into the car if I locked my keys in or give me a place to wait out of the elements if I had lost my keys. Including access to the emergency supplies (blankets, candle for heat).

Now with my proximity key, it appears the most dangerous thing I can do is drive off without my keys in it after dropping dh off. It will complain but if it is noisy enough I might miss the alarm. It will drive until I park the car but at that point won't start again. (This is in case you are car jacked, it allows the car thief to leave you behind.) So I wouldn't be able to get back to dh for his key or to home for my key. On the plus side, you cannot lock the car with the keys inside. If you try is screams at you after the first couple of tries. Which is really embarrassing for dh if I jump out of the car to start shopping and leave my key in my purse, or computer bag, or coat pocket in the back seat, and he goes to park the car. He leaves with his keys on him but the car still fusses at him.

We are home now (you can tell by the length of this post!)

Dh's heart valve is still leaking badly. His heart is still really strong. He'll be seen in 7 months (after another test) but in the meantime if anything changes and he can no longer bike for 1 hour a day, walk 12 - 15 km once a week and go walking with me other days, he's to get back to the doctor.

I'm hoping Mr. Lucylee gets some answers this afternoon.

I picked up dh and we did Costco together and then the car wash. We are home now but I'm debating to go out for a walk because it is a lovely day and tomorrow is another snow storm, hopefully just 4" of snow this time.

Thank you all for good thoughts for ddil. There were two positions and the first one was filled in-house, and that nurse is doing the exact work (at the exact place) that she and ddil were each told to expect. Ddil was to fill the second and all of a sudden it changed in mid-stream, so, very frustrating. As far as her bosses at the hospital, her irritation with having her resignation ignored now has to change to "eating crow" in a way. She has to be grateful to them for their determination that she was staying.

Dd18 was looking forward to a regular "daycare teacher" job for ddil this summer, but this doesn't mean she still might not be needed sometimes. I was also ready to be a "transportation specialist" when needed. Too bad. When we picked up paycheck, dd18's manager at restaurant job and the owner both insisted she should come back to work anytime she can. Their business is growing - maybe when you suddenly hike your prices people will believe you have better food? (Ds says that's all she can figure, lol.)

Library adventures
When I took dd back today, our timing was off and I ended up having some time on my hands. I went to the regional library that is near her univ and had a WONDERFUL time. Found 5 books. Also my library card was within 2 months of expiration in May, so I took care of that. The lady says I have the oldest library card she's ever seen ;) and she can't even tell, in the system, how many times I've renewed without needing a new one. (She WAS kinda young, but then I really am a long-term patron!)

((helia)) You just got it all out of the way at once, that's all. It's actually very efficient. If there are things to be scraped, jammed or left behind, line them all up and handle it in one day. Tomorrow can be for doing everything right and feeling virtuous.

Elizabeth I hope you go home to a peaceful house.

I desperately need a long break but not much time so a 10 minute break will have to do.

I ended up taking DS8 shopping this afternoon (instead of volunteering at school). We came home with a complete outfit and shoes for him to wear to the dance. I wouldn't have picked out the clothes and shoes that he did, but he knew exactly what he wanted. He saw a kid on a show wearing this outfit so he wanted to copy it. He wanted a tuxedo at first, but finding that would take more time than we had. ANYway, DS is THRILLED and very grateful for the new stuff.

DS8 and DGD5 are dressed and excited BEYOND BELIEF. This will be DGD5 first dance.

Break is up. *POOF*
1. Know what you want.
2. Go after it relentlessly.

Back from visiting with d cousin. We ended up staying 5 1/2 hours. I'm tired, but it was so enjoyable. She's leaving for NY State on Sunday. Just sad that we found we're only about 14 miles apart all this time. She's been coming down here for 20 years and we probably for nearly 12-15. But in this case, "better late than never". :D

DD's going to Trivia -I am not. I usually fade by 8 anyway and tonight I'm already fading. Tonight's clue is Wayne Gretzky. And they'll all be looking to her to answer this one.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!
