Morning ...
Coming off a horrendous migraine, but wanted to add to the migraine debate. One thing that most drs agree with is there is no one cause for every person. What works for one person does not work for another and same goes for meds.
My girl friends gets hers daily and imitrics works for her..same meds don't even touch mine. Excedrine can work for some but can cause rebound migraines for many and when I first started getting mine was told never to use it. Didn't work anyway.
Carbs and sugar are triggers for me as is the weather. I've been to many migrain specialist and the only thing they are on is no one really knows what causes migraines.
I've tried many "preventative" meds for migraines. Only results I had was to gain 25-40 on them. And study after studies show those who use thes med only experience one LESS headache a month than those who don't use them. I refuse to put unneeded meds in my body for that reason.
All that is the real frustration for those who suffer migraines. What works for one doesn't always mean it will work for others.
I have charted my migraines for months over the years looking for a pattern. Did daily chart of food, weather and other stuff. Then I remembered a time I was almost headache free. It was during the time I was using sleep meds and anti-depression meds for my sleep eating. The one thing I hadn't been charting was my sleep.
Started doing that and did find a trigger...if I don't get a good night sleep meaning I don't fall into deep sleep for at least 7 hours I tend to have more headaches. No drs had ever suggested sleeping patterns, whether it was the lack of or interrupted sleep, might be a trigger for me. I had to discover that on my own.
The migraine I had yesterday was the worst I've had in a long time. The meds wouldn't touch them and I also was puking during it. That hasn't happened in a long while. It was bad enough I was considering going to the ER but the thought of the drive in the car which usually make my head worse kept me from doing it.
If I look at my chart it was a a perfect storm waiting to happen. Horrible storms with the barometer dropping, terrible sleep the night before and sugar/carbs so the only advice I can add for someone who suffers from sever migraine is to chart yourself to find your triggers.
As you can see what works for Elizabeth does not work for me and vice versa..
