Kathryn ... I have an 5s iPhone that came with a Health app and as long as I keep it on my body it counts my steps ... it does other stuff as well. However even though I've been up and athem today I only have 4 steps so far ..that's because my phone has been sitting on a table

Once when I was looking at my step history records I came across a day where I went over 25k... thought that must have been a mistake till I looked at the date. It was the day I did the Spartan race. And my phone was in my camel pack... backpack for water.

I dance all the time...whenever I can ... not good at it but I don't care ... I danced the entire time at both my sons and nephews weddings :D

Hi everyone!!

Dh and I went to the Marshville Heritage Festival this morning. Almost everyone working there were in period costumes. Lots of people involved. They have a working sawmill on site as well as numerous other heritage buildings. A lot of the crafts available for purchase were hand made type things. There was one stall selling brooms. $80!! But the colour combinations were amazing. I could have had a blue broomstick with green and purple dyed (?) bristles? They were corn brooms, so it would have been something natural but I can't think of the word. They also had some home made signs like... "Yes, I ride a stick" "If the broom is gone, the witch is out." I bought a sign that said "If you think I'm a witch, you should see my sister!" LOL!!

Surprisingly we both had a good time. A bottle of water was $1.75 for the brand that you can buy 24 bottles for $2.99. We didn't get any water. But we did get kettle corn. (Who was it that used to make that?)

Cathys - the Heritage Festival sounds like a great experience.

DSon and family ETA is 3 hours. DGS11 had gymnastics this morning so they didn't get to leave until that was over. It takes us 6 hours to make the drive but they plan to do it in 4 hours. Hum......we do stop for a meal and 2-3 walk around and/or bathroom breaks. Obviously, they are more seasoned/serious travelers than us and stay on the road. The observance of the speed limit probably has an effect on the difference in driving time too.

I have been on an eating binge the last week or two. I need to get it under control and back on track. So I made a big pot of broth & vegetable soup. I am hoping having a cup of vegetable soup available (1 minute in the microwave) when hunger hits me will curb the desire to over eat.

The tentative plan at diff. buffet place for next weekend bday dinner at the casino is being well recieved. We do not like to support gambling but have heard the dinner is good and the location is great for others coming a ways. Only problem is the water pump is out of the jeep we may need to push it back a week.

Front yard logging was a success.

Rosie: I have been using a cell phone app for the past few weeks. And my step count has been going further and further down. Part of it is that it must be on me and 75%+ of my clothes don't have a pocket or one large enough. I'm about to get dh's Note5 and I have very few pieces of clothes with pockets large enough for that. I bought the fancy Sash purse, partly to wear my phone all the time, even at home. That didn't work out well (stained my shirt day 2.) I have tried wearing small purse on a string or even attaching a 'hidden pocket' to my clothes with no luck (it shows too much under my clothes.)

And even when I do remember to carry my phone all day (like yesterday when I did it on purpose) my app doesn't always start-up after an off-on or reset of my phone. It did that with an update on Thursday night so none of my steps yesterday counted.

That frustration is what made me search again last night and head out today.

The running store doesn't carry small pedometers or any tracker not worn on the wrist. Best Buy had the fitness trackers worn on the wrist by Michael Kors in stock and the Kate Spade. Neither have great reviews with regards to connectivity. It also had the Leaf which is what I really want but consistently I'm warned off it by reviews (which all say "I really wanted this, I love this, it doesn't work for me.) The Misfit pops out of its holders and is expensive to lose and Jawbone has filed for bankruptcy so buying their tracker makes no sense since it doesn't display anything locally, it requires their website to functioning to give me my data.

There was also a Nokia Steel tracker watch at Best Buy. It looked quite nice on me so we went away, I spent time researching it and then brought it home.

It won't work with my tablet and it was spotty in connecting with my phone. It won't work with the Note5 so that eliminates it (Android has changed how Bluetooth Low Energy works and older devices won't work with later versions of Android, my tablet has 6, the Note5 has 7 - this is also a problem with the Leaf and one other tracker I looked at.)

Worse, I wore it for 1.5 hours and my wrist started to ache. And because it is wrist worn, it won't count steps if I'm not swinging my arm (therefore stroller/grocerycart pushing or while typing while on the treadmill.)

So it is repackaged and ready to return.

Because of the long weekend, and because we go away again next week, I'll have to pay more to get the cheap pedometer that will fit in my pocket AND it won't fit in my bra so I'm not sure it is worth buying.

I've given it almost 2 months without a tracker and no good has come out of it at all. I'm more unhappy, heavier, and not as fit. I need something but cannot wear a tracker on my wrist due to the pain it causes me.

I have two options. Buy a whole new wardrobe with pockets for that larger cell phone or buy a whole new wardrobe of mumu dresses since I'm on the cusp of obesity once more and appear to be unable to change that without using the motivation a tracker gives me.

Oh, and while I was on the treadmill the computer there would not properly start up. It took 10 minutes for it to boot up in Safe mode after I realized it wasn't going to boot up in regular mode. I've removed dropbox from it but am seriously considering converting it to a Chromebook. That might bring it back to life a bit. If I'm just on the treadmill for 20 minutes, for it to take 10+ to boot up is not acceptable.

I'm so frustrated that nothing I own seems to work. Yes, there's a tech solution for everything. At least in theory but lately not one of the tech items I have bought has worked as it should. Some things I live with but my frustration level is at the breaking point. I cried through my time on the treadmill because not only was the computer not booting, but I plugged earphones into my phone to listen to music and at one point pulled out one earbud to hear dh and realized that despite the earphones being inserted and working, the music was playing through the phone's speaker as well, disturbing dh.

Really, I'm so tech inept at this point, I can't get wired earphones to plug in and work. That makes me useless.

Happy Birthday Nancy!

Quick post....I'm keeping an eye on the sky. We've had showers and thunderstorms most of the afternoon and looks like it is getting dark again. I had to unplug tv and computers.

We've had a busy week; dh had a dr. appointment with a new doctor on Monday, an INR appointment on Thursday. Also on Thursday ds#2 and Ds#1 and ddil came to visit. Ds#1 mowed and trimmed both the front and back yards while he waited for ds#1 to come give him a hand in moving the sleeper sofa and loveseat out of the living room to the carport. We all had a nice visit and caught up on all the dgrkids. Friday early afternoon the S.Army came and took both pieces along with a box of books and magazines. The living room looks so much bigger now. The paint on the baseboard can be finished now.

Dh's inr number was too low and he has to go back the end of this week.

This morning I worked in the front garden. Pulled a lot of weeds, trimmed some low branches on the little oak tree and cut down another different kind of tree growing up against the living room window. That one was as tall as the roof and filled that corner. Now the living room is a lot lighter.

Both of our driver licenses and due in the next few weeks. Dh hasn't driven a car since Sept 17th and wanted to drive before renewing his this week. So this afternoon we went for a short ride around the neighborhood. He thought he would be nervous, but he did fine. I think he should practice again before driving in traffic again...there is always a lot of traffic on our main roads!

I'm going to cuop while the weather is still calm.

Walked over to the pub for dinner and then the grocery store. Forgot to deposit the cheques in my purse. Sigh. Just stood there waiting for dh to check his lottery tickets.

I didn't eat a lot at dinner because my stomach got full fast. Oh well, there's lots for tomorrow.

I think I'll go to bed and listen to the baseball game until I fall asleep. I don't feel productive at all.

Kathryn ....I use a very small runners bag like this ...neeug at amazon to carry my phone when I don't have pockets. I usually wear it in the back over my right hip.

My tracker came within my phone so it's not one that I bought. I also have a Fitbit charge 2 that works well. I wear it on my wrist.

Neither tell me the same steps when I wear both together... and some times they're off by 300 steps. And my app converts my steps into miles.
However if I count in my head the steps I have walked and then compare it to my app and phone my phone is mor accurate.

But then again if my devices are off by a few hundred steps I don't care.. I'm not that concerned about it. Also my glider which shows miles in tenths of a mile never agrees with either and the treadmill gives me a different number as well.

When I keep track of my steps I usually include what device I used. Sometimes I write 9543 steps/phone AND three miles on glider, most of the time I have more steps on my phone cause I'm using it all day and still write 3 miles on glider so I know what I did that day.

And when I cross train, nothing keeps accurate counts cause when I'm lifting weight or doing burpees I move my legs in motion but don't move and distance
