Try Again Thursday

Postby Kathryn-in-Canada » Thu Mar 15, 2018 7:53 am

The weekend is coming. Is there something that you tried to do for this weekend that isn't complete yet?

Try again.

I figured I'd try and be positive. I wanted to title this Trying Thursday!

I'm up, s2s, the bedroom furniture recovered with drop cloths, the dresser moved 2' towards the bed so they have room to repair the damage from yesterday.

The bedroom is filthy. I only put drop cloths over items containing soft stuff (bed, upholstered chairs, clothes drawers) but the tables and floor have a thin layer of plaster dust all over them. When we moved the dresser over, there was a dustpan full of plaster they had not cleaned up from yesterday. Obviously, the tiny ripple must have been the warning the wall was to give away and the more they worked, the more it gave way.

The plan is for them to come first thing this morning so the wall has longer to dry before being painted. I'm not sure that will work and am debating leaving things until Monday except getting dressed is difficult with everything under drop cloths. I'm actually not sure where my shoes are so can only wear slippers. I don't want to move the cloths too much because that just stirs up the dust more in the room.

Slept fairly well. Was up at 2 and when I came back from the bathroom I could smell the plaster so opened the window so I could breathe better. The alarm went off at 6 and it took 45 minutes to get out of bed but I did and hit the shower immediately. I have laundry to gather up to do so should start that now. The done laundry is piling up in the dining room since I don't want to put it back in the bedroom (that means disturbing the plaster dust.)

I have a service and sermon to do. I worked on exegesis while in the car yesterday so have at least started. My goal for today is to get the service done. I can't find my resources since business paperwork is strewn over my desk. I'd like to finish the bank reconciliation today as well.

Add in cleaning the bedroom well enough (not too well because the painter will be sanding the plaster so more plaster dust on Friday or Monday) and the rest of the apartment as well and that's a full day.

Plasterers are here now. The wall is basically half removed and redone because as they scraped away the bubble, the area kept expanding.

I've had breakfast, started dh's dinner in the crock pot (he's having ribs) and tidied the kitchen a bit. I've picked hymns for Sunday.

Downloaded the Windows updates and installed those.

So, a sort-of potpourri of accomplishments.

I need to go get the mail so will put my hiking boots on (still haven't found my shoes.)

Thank you to LadyM for sharing a little info from P and P. That's in J and C - look past my skippable stuff to find it  .

Perhaps my Try Again is all the Desk Day this morning. Have been working on that a while. Got up early to do first thing, the DPCall I was instructed to make this a.m. (7:00 on 15th was what I was told) when city payments office opened, to request our hold be extended rather than lapse. Got a really poor customer service guy who basically says well, it's not today. And I'll have to call every day - yes, every day - until the day I can request it (I'd been told the 15th) and that he can't tell me what day will be. He was snippy and said I'd just have to do my due diligence every day. I know ya'll think .. just pay the full bill and let them refund later, but I'm working against the need to keep monthly reports understandable, which would be skewed by that.

One more copy to make and mailing.

Then my Next Up is brunch.

:)

Let's hope not.

Done to mailbox. Just wanted to report. Lately every finish seems like it was a big deal.

Dd19 is not sure she has the fully correct interview clothes for a specific interview tomorrow, except at home. So I'm on alert here. She will be traveling there with a friend, by rail. It's not an extreme distance (and job would not be there anyway, but with her univ), but that is the way her also-car-less friend goes to the area easily and is familiar with it, and so dd is appreciative. She'll learn a new mode of travel.

:) Harriet. I also sent email to dfriend M telling her I would probably be back on the road by 2 p.m. and to call me if I haven't checked in by 4 with her. Can't be too careful, but he is over 80 years old.

we had a stressful and heart wrenching night last night for/with dd younger. I think her meds are at the bottom of all the issues.

But today is a new day and a chance to move forward. (fingers crossed that she will continue to move forward) So try again Thursday is perfect!

hi d harriet
hi d kathryn Try again is perfect!
hi d twins

wishing you the best today!!!

I have to get started. dd younger left for a class I set up for her - she was exhausted but went...praying it gives her the positivity and inspiration to move forward even though her brain is hurt.

I pulled my card: How's that working for you.
I think I will answer that later except for one thing:

what has been working - timer and only doing 10 minutes a day on home blessing, 10-15 on project, and if busy only 15 minutes in zone. Also dejunking one thing a day has been good for me. As well as marking things that are part of unconscious clutter. I can leave things out for days, weeks, even years. 8-)

so far on morning routine:
emptied emails

spoke to dd older
looked up specialists locally
it is always a joy to be here with you!

Plastering is done.

I picked up the mail. My new stencils for my bullet journal arrived. I'm fighting the urge to play with them.

Laundry is progressing but before I pull it out of the dryer, I'll clean the bedroom so I have a clean place to put it.

I've been sitting here, trying to work up the motivation to do that cleaning. It will need vacuuming, wet dusting, possibly a bucket of water to wash things, and damp mopping the floor. And while the blinds are down, I'll clean the windows.

I'm not sure of the exact order. Maybe vacuum, clean windows, carefully remove the drop cloths and take them to the balcony, wash/dust, vacuum again, damp mop and feather dust if necessary.

OK, that's a plan.

Good morning! I am checking in from home because I took a day off with DD16. Unfortunately, part of that day will be to take a cat to the vet. No crisis, just an allergy reappearance. The roller skating place is closed, so we are going ice skating this afternoon instead. The answer to the unfinished business of the weekend is that my house cleaning still needs to be done. I did do the coffee table last night.

When you get a bizarre text or email, just reply back with "I think this was meant for someone else". The sender is usually grateful, whether it was someone scamming their account or just sent to wrong person.

I wonder if DD would be told to wear a wig if she took up Irish dancing? She has wild thick curly red hair that could pass as native if she visited Ireland. Lighter and redder than blessedw2's pictures show.

In answer to Harriet's question, either Mom wasn't given a diagnosis or her short term memory problems did not allow its recall. Dad will be here in 8 days. He was at the appointment and has no memory issues. (No issues at all except controlled high blood pressure and an active lifestyle that occasionally generates an injury).

Gotta get DD up, so we can make the vet appointment.
