Friday Friendship

Postby LadyMaverick » Fri Sep 07, 2018 9:15 am

This was part of my devotional this morning
Friendship exists as a feeling of admiration, of love, of fellowship, without demand. And when we are another man's friends, let us accept his friendship and enjoy it without trying to change it or him.

I do treasure the friendship found here.
1. Know what you want.
2. Go after it relentlessly.

I do as well, LadyM! So many friends here and I treasure you all every day!

I had to google "W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings," after reading Lucylee's comments last night.

Yes special friendships here for sure.

My friends who I had over for dinner Sunday are an example of that. She has AD and was talking to me about that. Said she had been cutting her medicines in half and couldn't tell the difference. Well I certainly could because I never noticed the A D before this visit to FLorida. Her conversations are all over the place. So I've just been accepting that she wants to be friends and giving her my friendship even though she isn't my favorite person and can be annoying sometimes. Her husband also, a quiet person but I've discovered if I question him directly will have something meaningful and very intelligent to say. So I actually like him better than her. But they are offering their friendship which I accept and return, and like LadyM says, not trying to change them at all.

On to my day: I've been sending emails, trying to get this draw thing finished up, need signatures on that before I can turn it in... and some dailies are done... but I need to get laundry started.

Speaking of laundry, DEE, how does a washer work without an agitator? My front loader does not use enough water, supposed to be economical, and that's true, but becomes unbalanced way too easily and doesn't hold enough weight without doing that... I'm just grateful I have running water and no washboard I have to use!

Funny, but I was wondering the same thing this morning, Harmony. Guess I'll have to ask dd. Know I liked the idea of no agitator to catch things under.

Dh is liking this calendar I've made up for the last few weeks here. Using different colors for all our appointments, the winterizings he has to do, etc. As he's adding things I'm printing up new ones. Easy to do and keeps him on track (oh and me too).

Yes, liking friends here and those whom I've met IRL. Think I've met 7 and some more than once. But 2 of those (Indiana & MamaP) have passed on.

Think my dh is out measuring some septic tanks -at least those of whom have gone to their winter homes. Out behind our berm I routinely am hearing the bang of trucks dumping dirt from some excavation site. Scares me to bits every time that bang sounds. Should say 'startles'.

I'm slow getting going today. Just finished my breakfast and almost through my coffee. Still need to do someting with my hair.

Think one of the reasons I'm 'slow' today is thinking about dShelley. Today would have been her birthday. She was the easiest delivery I had out of 5. Then I was thinking about all the friends here who reached out to us 9 years ago when she passed away. Your friendship meant (and means) so much to us!

Good morning! The daily loads are loading. I got an email directly to me, not to the whole IT team requesting access to an MVD database online. Not my database, not my group's database, not my prior groups database. There is another state employee with my name, but she is an executive director of a college campus, so I doubt it is for her.

My evening plans got completely changed around. Normally I have DD16 on Thursday, but she is in the middle of finals. So, I took her to Arby's then she ate at my house so she could say goodbye to foster cat Chelsea who goes to her new home tonight. The cat coordinator needed to give me something for the adopter and to borrow my cat trap, so she and I and her husband met for dinner. That meant I could not do the things I wanted to get done after DD left.

Tonight's most important task is to transfer the cat. I also need to watch a movie so I can return it to the library. Balancing the checkbook needs to be done soon. Party invitations are this weekend's frog/WTF.

Harmony: Nitrogen is not flammable and is used industrially to prevent combustion of other materials. I didn't know about its use in tires.

lucylee: You are not alone in the no mani no pedi camp. I cannot think of much that would be less pleasant than having someone mess with my feet. And I hate the feel of nail polish on my fingers. Am I the only one who can feel the weight of it?

Kathryn: That is really interesting about the reading. When I read the characters have different voices. It can be a bit disconcerting when they make a favorite book into a movie. What they did with Trillian in the Hitchhiker's Guide series was just WRONG! Voice, appearance, and character. DD likes it when I read to her because I use the characters' voices as I "hear" them.

Dh received an email the other day (after pointing out a flaw on a website) saying "A good friend will tell you, before you go out, when you have spinach in your teeth!"

I've made it through until this moment.

Got up, got the plants identified that I was giving away. As well as paraphernalia like extra pots.

Drove myself to the gym and found parking easily (I usually bike because it is quicker and no parking issues but I didn't know if I'd be able to get home.)

Did not work out. She wanted to test me on the exercise bike for the time to see how I reacted to the level of fitness required to do a workout with her. I didn't get dizzy on the bike so I'll get a workout next time. She cancelled my appointment without penalty (good because this is a really expensive trainer.)

Got home, still OK, loaded the car with the plants and dropped them off with dh driving this time. There were two full loads on our carts (we have a dolly as well as a grocery cart.)

Came home and tidied the balcony a bit. The plants I gave away would have lasted nicely until freeze up (2 - 5 weeks away) but this person will be able to keep them longer (she faces south) and wanted plants to pay with. There's a giant spider plant with dozens of babies, and a Christ Cactus that needs nursing, along with the geranium which she'll be able to overwinter in her place (I don't have enough sun in my apartment.) She's on disability so this will give her stuff to play with without risking any money. And since my balcony plants all go into the garbage at the end of the season, hopefully they'll live on happily. A win-win-win.

I need to s2s for the day now (I'm in workout clothes.) I'll probably nap as soon as I'm out of the shower.

Morning...

I treasure all my friendships here and in my real world. :D

I’ve joined Nancy in purging Champaign around my home. Yesterday I donated two sets of China, eyestalks that had been my grandmothers that I no longer use, two banker boxes filled with books, 40 dvds, most were exercise ones, and a bunch of small kitchen type appliances I no looked use.

Two weeks ago I let go of a bunch of other stuff. I donate to a group home for kids. It’s a large organization with cottages that houses the kids with house parents. When I was teaching I usually had several kids each year from this organization. It’s nice to give here because I know they put the money to good use. And their sales area is several steps above good will. Just walking through their store is a great experience.

Today I need to do a short Wally World run. Want to get a cooked chicken as well. For me it’s my fast food. I can steam some veggies and toss a salad and have a quick dinner with very little fuss or mess while still eats my healthy.

My stomach is still causing me problems; mostly pain. I have to see an esophagus specialist, but couldn’t get an appointment till Oct 3. My gasto guy thinks swallowing could be part of the problem. I am in an agreement with him as I get very hard hurting hiccups which start of n the mornings and last off and on all days. Hiccups are caused in part by swallowing and I have been complaining abt them for years.

Waving to y’all. Off to start my day. Perry is waiting and so is my second cup of coffee.

Elizabeth...

When I read the voices in my head change as the characters change and I discovered long ago even 15 year old gang members like to be read to.

Most of my “kids” had learning disabilities, especially with reading. Most don’t hear a voice in their heads because they are trying so hard to process what they are reading. Not hearing a voice is the main reason they don’t like to read. However they loved it when I read to them using voices for different characters. I was told many times listening to me read was like having a movie without the pictures. Sadly they would tell me they wished to hear voices when they read because if they did, they would read more.

Lucylee... I think Harmony along with Elizabeth regularly go to the library and so do I. I came home with nine books the last time I went which was two weeks ago and I’ve already read seven.

Perhaps instead of watching your reruns of whatever you watch you could read instead. I’ve cut watching ng tv in half and read instead. And I find keeping my book in my living area reminds me to read...I read a lot sitting on my couch, not just in bed. And usually I’m so deeply involved in my story, TV pales to it.

LadyM.... I only have one more episode to watch of Jack Ryan. Hate that cause the series is one of the best I’ve seen in years. If you haven’t already done so you would also enjoy BOCSH. It’s a dectextive series written my one of my all time favorite authors. Bosch is one of his recurring characters.

Both Norma and I have read all of his books and we both love this Prime series.

Don't think I'd ever thought about hearing the different voices when I read. But after reading here, I realized I do just that very thing. I too, get very focused on what I'm reading (but not if there's other distractions about). For instance I find it near impossible to read while waiting in the hospital, doctors' offices, etc. I also can't seem to read and concentrate if dh is watching TV and of course with little space I'm in the living area with him.
