>>>>>Sad & totally skippable.<<<<<<<<<<<<
We did discuss having the vet make a house call, but that has the same problems - how to get the dog to go somewhere it doesn't want to go. I do realize that dog training would help in this type of situation. But this particular dog doesn't respond to training like our other dogs. He doesn't have an ounce of aggression in him, but he does have his mind made up about entering a building and wearing a collar. It was an emotional couple of hours. DH size & strength allowed him to literally picked the 80lb dog up, cradle him in his arms and carried the dog to the vehicle. Once at the vet office they brought a gurney to the parking lot, loaded up the dog and rolled him into the clinic. After running several tests, we made the decision to put DDog to sleep.

DS10 and a friend were texting during all this and the friend asked DS10 to come over to his house. I called the Mom to verified she was okay with this. We all thought the distraction of playing would be good for DS10 while he processes everything. DS10 was sad but will be okay with time passing.

I'm going to text the person in charge of the speech contest and tell her DS10 won't be participating this time. It just isn't the day for DS10 to tackle another emotional event.

This morning DD dropped DGD7 off to spend the day with us. Today is Fall Break so DGD7 doesn't have school.

it's so hard with the glass 1/2 full thinking. Your dd is a sweetheart d dee!

my dh has that tendency and he has mellowed with age. I would burst into tears as I got older, in my 40's, and say I couldn't do that thinking any more. He was shocked that he was like that. every weekend he was sure he would get fired or things would fall apart or pick on the littlest things. Now he laughs at it but still falls into the trap. Totally understand your sweet dd's frustration. I am wishing her wisdom and boundaries for her dh.

worked outside for one hour so far. taking longer than i thought.

good for you and your ds to know what works and what doesn't d lady. what a great mom you are. have a great day

You do 'get it', Blessed. Dh and I both have a hard time dealing with his attitude, but we also know which side our bread is buttered on.  For instance dsonil would for the most part turn down any overtime (which usually meant working till 4:30/5 -he gets home at 3:30). Dh finally said to me "I find I have a hard time with his turning down overtime. Especially since dd works so hard for their niceties and to keep them afloat". Enough venting!

Dh has gone down to help winterize the camp store for the season. Another camper called him a while ago and if he has time, he may get that one done this afternoon. We have to leave here about 5:30 to head to the cardiologist. Going to drop dgd's shower gift off on the way. Shower's not until November 4th, but I should be in FL well before then.

I have a different problem with the glass half full - or empty - theory. One tends to not look at the truth of a matter. My DH, for instance, will have 1 drop in a glass and say it's all full and wonderful. I think he goes over to the denial glass of water. It's good to be optimistic, but not to the point of denying truth. Course I don't like pessimists either; this unrealistic view of things can go both ways sometimes.

Off my soap box...

LadyM Happy belated birthday. I'm sorry you had such a bad day with the DDog.

I worked on a new recipe today. Took too much fussing to accomplish so won't make it again but it is pretty good.

Didn't do any of the things I had planned but that's ok, there's always tomorrow.

DGS21 came and ate lunch with us. We ate a totally unhealthy lunch (fried chicken, pasta salad, chips & dip). DH stayed at the vet clinic after DS10 and I left. DH stopped on the way home and bought a bunch of comfort food. This is a unique day so I'm okay with having food we don't normally eat. Somedays are like that.

DGD7 is a total chatterbox today. Non-stop talking with a high degree of imagination.

I have researched and ordered another English curriculum. I really like the two highly rated English curriculum we are currently using but I might replace one of them or just add a 3rd. Each of the curriculums are very quick to teach (less than 10 minutes) so even if we have 3 of them it still only takes 30 minutes a day. My worst subject is English so know I need all the help I can get. I am teaching myself as well as DS10.

Oh, how awful, LadyM. And such a young dog. Thinking of you and your family, I know you will miss him so.

DD came by and we went off to vote. Then I had gotten a text that her scripts at the drugstore were ready so we went there and I got an extension cord for two Halloween pumpkins, I'm doing a different set up this year. Then we talked about flu shots and I said if I'd go to Publix with her and pay for the shot if she would get one. She needed to get some groceries anyway and we each got a $10 Publix gift card for getting it there. And we had Subway lunch out. I was ready to get home, but we did have a really nice time out together.

I really need to head upstairs and get busy today but I have lost my momentum.

Oh, I agree, totally, Harmony. Too much optimism can sometimes be as bad or worse than all that pessimism. Those rose colored glasses can be pretty untruthful.

Hi everyone! I survived the Halloween party and everyone loved my impersonation of Queen Elizabeth (current queen, not the first). There were far fewer people this time and I was really worried for a while. Finally, people showed, but many who promised to be there didn't. (One told me this morning she thought it was next weekend and was completely bummed she had missed it). DD16 wants two parties next year - on for her friends and one for mine. I'm not invited to her party, "You just be there as adult supervision." I am glad she wants to have parties. The xBFF, who for the past two years has had a party the weekend after mine is not having one this year. I think she wanted to take over Halloween and it didn't work. I have too many friends that she doesn't know.

Sunday, we did not go to church in the morning. Because DD goes willingly every weekend, I let her off the hook on those 2 to 3 times there is a late night event on Saturday. She did go to youth group. When I dropped her off, the x and the other woman were not there, but I saw some documents which will probably be given to me Tuesday. I did not look through them, but they were right there at the front entrance and the top sheet was a Quicken report with what purports to be DD's medical expenses. Unless it turns out that there are actual receipts underneath, that will not be good enough. Anyone can type anything into Quicken. Anyone can type anything into an Excel spreadsheet. It can still be the same bad data presented differently. It is also possible that it is entirely accurate down to the penny! I just have no way of knowing. If all I get is Quicken data, it will be the third attempt to collect without documentation. I am tempted to hand everything over to a fraud investigator.

I did B&B and with the party expenses, it is ugly. Even so, I want to pay off the debt to the x (and there is approximately 99% chance I owe him something).

Tonight's essentials: return library book, financial paperwork, put away some Halloween (goal = one bin per day), and work on some crocheted baby items.

I would rather deal with pessimists than people who are convinced that positive thinking solves everything.

LadyMaverick: I wish you had a better birthday. I'm so sorry about the dog.
