It has been a busy day. It is snowing now, it was rain before, and freezing rain overnight last night.
I got off to church (the city one) on time. I had to make a decision since we were in a freezing rain warning. It was fine, just wet. Slushy on side streets but I only had a few short blocks to go on those and then I'm on regular bus routes.
I really enjoyed the service. Last night I was trying to think what I could do to fight this depression and it occurred to me to get to church. This Sunday it was the jazz trio for music and it was perfect. No organ to mess with my brain. The sermon was titled Distraction.
After church someone from the refugee committee grabbed me and talked to me about an upcoming birthday of the little boy. He's turning 11 and his aunt wants us to do something. His cousin suggested an indoor play place which is both expensive and intense. So I started to work on coming up with a better plan. I talked with other members of the committee, consulted with a random 11 year old walking by (our plan of bowling is considered lame by that age group) and have some rough ideas. What the kid would like to do is a computer gaming party. The committee is against that because they view computer games negatively. I'd need to know more about his gaming habits before drawing a conclusion with this kid. There is also the question, "does he have friends to invite to a party?"
I got home, started my lunch in the oven and dinner in the crock pot. It is a multi-step stew but I knew I'd be exhausted this evening.
While rushing to get out the door to the residents' association event, my sister called to invite me to come down. She knows I'm depressed and thought some time in Florida might help. I said no due to my boycott.
Then we had the event. It was well attended and went smoothly. During dh's part of it, I met with a resident who had contacted me with a problem. I can't help him but I thought someone listening to him might help him feel better.
We're home now and dinner smells good. So I'm pleased with the work I put in after church. I still have to put away the rest of the things from the event and then we'll start the rice to go with the stew. I can hear the pot lid vibrating from the boiling so I guess it should be turned down again (I put it on high when I got home to hurry it along.)
