That's why I love the word "homemaker".

Many of the family stories about my grandparents were about the arrival of conveniences - great stories about water piped to kitchen, bathroom being added, creosote poles thrown up in the front yard for electricity. My own birth story always began with my mother's gratitude for a good slop jar in the bedroom when her water broke at night.

Biggest difference between then (any "then") and now - The Information Age. We don't just accept things as they are (or as we're told they are) any more. We go look it up and find out for ourselves what our options are. Homemakers reject an "everyone is the same and has to do the same things" mentality. We are so diverse and interesting, and free to be ourselves.

Barometer - there is nagging physical discomfort that agitates us when the barometer rises. Any part of the body surrounded or filled by fluid is affected by a change in barometric pressure, and we're 70 percent water. Sinuses and joints we always think of, but also muscle, which is full of fluid. Our bodies have overall responses, too. Blood pressure will rise and our blood itself (and possibly lymph fluid, maybe even mucus) will become slightly thicker, which affects the entire body in lots of little nagging ways. We get a lot of "I'm uncomfortable!" :x signals, all coming in at the same time.

After 7 (count-em!) recoveries from the backup, my brain finally figured out how to get the numbers into the data base in a way that was accurate. Rather than do the corporate spin-off (which is what happened, I got cash and shares in a new company for my old shares), I simply made an entry as if I sold the shares for way more than the cash I received and then 'bought' the new company's shares at the correct cost price. That made my new cost price accurate since Quicken kept doing background calculations back to 2013 (when I bought the first shares) and coming up with random other numbers. It wasn't as if I could see where Quicken got its numbers and I couldn't see those numbers until the entry was in and there's no way to reverse the entry so I just kept recovering from backup until I finally had a way to do it.

I've entered the next month, so have got up to where I was when I realized I had a problem 2 days ago. I had set aside an hour to finish the data entry on the account but instead, that last 90 minutes was spent getting back to where I was. Only this time with accurate numbers.

I've backed up again and will head out now for lunch and then the tire shop. I'm taking my computer with me so I can work on email while I wait for the car.

I would really love a solid block of time to do data entry so I can get this done and move onto my tax return. On the plus side, after getting through this road block, I find it hard to think the taxes will be more difficult than this! My goal is to finish the taxes by Monday night.

Easter is Sunday and I have not made plans for an Easter dinner because we've all been so sick. And dh is struggling but each day he is showing more and more signs of getting this cold. Today his ears were really popping in the elevator so his sinuses are getting blocked. I think I might just ignore Easter this year. Maybe we'll have a big dinner another time. I still have a turkey.

I really do enjoy my role - it is a true joy for me even though sometimes i dislike housework. Does that make sense.

When I first started staying home, as a young woman, I had the image of being Martha Stewart, my grandmother and her mother, little house on the prairie and anne of green gables all in one. :D  I read every book on homesteading and carpentry as well as old homemaking skills. I had a tremendously dreamy vision of the times of my grandmother who I admired.

I had a hard time having children, so we decided try letting me stay home from my work. I found out pretty quickly I was totally in imagination world and inept at the skill of homemaking. I loved the idea, then the actual at first. I was totally bored at first. And even when the kids were little I had bored moments. I also thought I had to be like the homesteader I read about and be Martha Stewart herself! Not realizing that she worked really hard on her business but also had, eventually, a staff of hundreds. I thought i could do it all. :D 8-) ah to be young.

I wanted to have those skills my grandmother had once I became a homemaker and mom. I just didn't have the focus back then. I listened but was so disorganized. My grandmother was amazing. I loved her stories and loved listening to my aunts, mom and grandmother tell stories of the war, homemaking, and day to day life.

I love the stories of your grandparents and when you were born d harriet!

We don't just accept things as they are (or as we're told they are) any more
.
I think that is true! thank goodness.

Things I still see - that I hope will slowly change - is the mommy wars. I stay home and "they work/I work and "they" stay home. I wish women could lift each other up more and know they all want the same things - I happy life and doing the best for their family.

I love being a homemaker - I keep myself busy 90% of the time and I would go back again to being a new mom all over again (only with the knowledge I have now). :D

I have to go back to reality. :D wishing you all a wonderful day.

At the tire shop. Ran out of time for my planned treat for lunch so just grabbed a chili on the way and ate it before starting to work.

<8 minutes later>

They called me over, my car is finished at least 30 minutes early! Woot!

Time to go to Costco and then get home to finish my work.

I am wound up again and feeling that dd isn't being treated very well. I brainstormed a little on the phone with her about taking the lead on making things happen if they don't/won't. In a burst of activity while talking to her I got the dishwasher emptied from last night, and reloaded. I still have some things to wash up.

I sent a long email analyzing the sources for a cemetery inscription that is part of my DAR proof. There is an indication online that there was a WPA survey of the stone in cemetery in 1939. The cemetery is not listed in a 1939 four volume onion skin book series, and I have concluded that the book is the best source for the work. There are more cemeteries listed in the books than on the microfilm at the state library of the 1939 manuscripts, so I believe some originals were lost of destroyed. We know that a stone was placed on the male's grave (because he was a veteran, by the VA) in the 1950s and there is a record of that. But I suspect that all references to his birth and death dates after that were based on the info provided by family for the stone, so really there is no independent corroboration before the 1950s. It doesn't affect the DAR application's validity but would be nice to pin down. Interesting that the DAR lady who looked at both the microfilm and the book at the state library didn't pick up on that...

Going to try to finish a.m. routine at least. Like I said, I'm wound up.

I am praying for your dd d twins! so many times when people are young the other people treat them like they don't know anything. so frustrating! I am so sorry. I will pray that she gains strength and knowledge as she goes through this time. I am praying for her.
