The In-Solidarity SHE Village Basic Weekly Plan

Postby Kathryn-in-Canada » Mon Mar 16, 2020 7:23 am

How innocent I was, thinking that we would all have similar experiences and could support each other through Covid. I honestly thought that in the face of a threat to all mankind, people would work together to protect each other rather than work to protect their 'facts', 'truth', and 'freedoms.' That the protection of one's political ideology would be viewed as more important than the protection of human lives honestly never occurred to me as being something people would choose to do. Or choose to vote for.

Violence is once again been threatened against Gretchen Whitmer and her supporters for trying to protect the people of her state. The recent election has shown the will of the American voters; they have voted to keep in power those who chose to support a dangerous and divisive person who has poisoned the discourse in the US to the point where it is safe and supported to say, "RISE UP" against those who threaten your liberties (by calling for safety protocols to save your life.)

I'll let this thread be buried and not delete it. It will stand as a testimony to the destruction of my ignorance and innocence.

The one thing about a pandemic is we are all experiencing the same call for social distancing and self-isolation if we show symptoms or fit other criteria.

We are in it for a long haul, this won't be over in weeks, it will be months and probably seasons.

We are just called upon to

Social Distance, not be distant.
Self-isolate, not feel isolated .
We will be alone, but we don't have to be lonely.

So, let's focus on connecting ourselves both here in the village but also in our IRL communities.

The first step is this pinned BWP thread. For the next while, our PWYC threads will include a shared daily focus/theme/challenge that we can all partake in.

This thread will be updated daily for a while and be the repository of any PWYC fun reflecting our focus on community.

The Basic Weekly Plan is:

Monday - Pampering
Tuesday - Tunes
Wednesday - Writing
Thursday - Thoughtfulness
Friday - Focus
Saturday - Season-ing
Sunday - Sabbath

I thought I'd also use this space to track how long we've been at this. So far it seems like a week but to be honest, I think for most of us the serious focus on this didn't really start until Friday, March 13. We prepped before that but the idea actually, physically, social distancing (i.e. not going out unless necessary, not being at events or even in small groups, not being within 3 - 6 feet of people while out) didn't really start until the Friday when the cancellations started to snowball.

TUESDAY - TUNES

Music has the power to move us, both physically and

Broadway's Laura Benanti, whom we all love madly, posted a message on Twitter addressing kids who were to perform in high school musicals that have now been canceled because of you-know-what. She invited them to post videos of themselves performing so she at least could see them and many have.

Here are some clips from students whose high school musicals have been cancelled.

Here's a link to a TED talk on the Transformative Power of Classical Music. This is 20 minutes, and light, and humourous. Enjoy!

Here are links to our Google Play Music playlists.

This is the Movement & Motivation playlist:

This is the Calming & Comfort playlist:

I can't test if those without a google account can see these. I have 3 browsers but each are assigned a google account and even when I wasn't signed in, google found reference when I opened the link.

You will see a list of songs. If you click on the number of the song it will begin to play. Hmmm, the other thing I didn't check was if it played the whole song or just a sample. Maybe this wasn't a good idea.

There are several, wonderful, Covid remakes of songs on Youtube.

If you know of one, include it in a post and I'll copy it to here. I'm not sure if I can figure out how to do a playlist on Youtube, but if that's an option, I'll pull them together as well.

Neil Diamond: Hands washing hands

Bohemian Rhapsody: this one is hilarious, dh and I laughed which felt good. It is also karaoke so you can sing along!

This one is on Facebook - it is the M*A*S*H guide to social distancing:

SUNDAY - SABBATH

Goal - to have a Sabbath from thinking about our limitations.

Ideas - If you are with someone, book a movie date. Make popcorn, sit down and watch a movie at a specific time.
