My mindset of shopping has changed because of my decluttering.
Yesterday I bought things for the Christmas village - I always patched things together and that is why the last couple years I haven't put it up.

things in means things out. this is how my dear mom and dear married to family does it.

Since I brought things in I need to focus on what will happen after Christmas is over and the village comes apart.
1. once the village is up ... get rid of all the extra stuff.. no need to keep it for Just in case and next year. We have mice every fall and bags of white fluff takes up room and mice seem to always get into what ever I have and use it for soft comfy beds - out it goes as soon as I am done decorating.
2. return anything I don't open and use
3. put box that seals aside for storage after the holidays
4. put screws in plastic zip lock bags and tape to boards for the base of the village
5. TAKE A PICTURE so I remember some things that we liked
6. make things ahead during the year... landscape things

What sorts of landscape things will you be making ahead for next year, Blessedw2? Are you talking about your yard, ornaments, perhaps? You've done a lot! I like your ideas, too! Big WTG!

I decluttered and cleaned the kitchen- again- which I did yesterday, TOO, but today's cleaning, without cleaner, and only with water on a crocheted dishcloth, with LOTS of elbow grease, and drying the counters with a dry dishcloth- picked up MORE DIRT than the cleaner with towel did! Wow! I guess that's not such a great cleaner after all! I'm stunned! OR I didn't use elbow grease, when I used the cleaner, because I figured the work would all be done BY the cleaner, so I worked less heavier on it.

Decluttered today, so far:

1- all dirty LOL went into the laundry basket in the utility room.
2- made the bed.
3- hung up a Muumuu.
4- took the dishes from the dish drainer and mats, DH put them into the DW and ran them.
5- put Christmas colors (red-green-white) kitchen mats out.
6- picked up my journals, from the recliner-sofa area, put them by my end table, chair, ottoman.
7- threw away a paper, no longer needed.
8- have 3 letters to send out to the mailbox.

Today, we decluttered the kitchen, eating bar & dining room table and ran the DW.

I decluttered a bathroom section of a drawer organizer of my "stuff". Now I've got box bottoms and lid, sectioned off for:
1- long barrettes,
2- shorter barrettes and fat short ones, too,
3- hair clip things, which are about 1/2" - 1" long,
4- earrings, a few fav pairs,
5- some rings, which still fit me. (Many do NOT because I've "shrunk").

I sent home 2 pairs of pajamas and 1 pair of fleece lounge pants, with DD, to have to wear and we send her and DGS home with several items from our pantry and turkey dinner leftovers, too. ♥ ♥

Hi to all - great decluttering.

Harmony, good job handling a dreaded task.

ellyphant, I have a hard time letting go of linens, so that's impressive.

The task of helping some extended family with the decluttering of deceased family member's closet is done. Bags riding around in my trunk until I can get by Goodwill. That is always a hard task. It's good to have help.

Dd continues to try to organize and toss. She had another conversation with me today about her need for determination, to keep a neat room, just for her own well-being.

This does not mean that I can tell ya'll that the rest of the house is decluttered! But always a work in progress.
