April Declutter and Organization, 2019

Postby Harriet » Mon Apr 01, 2019 8:32 pm

Today is a milestone of 2019, as we begin the second quarter of the year!
Is it time to ~^~shake ~^~ things ~^~up ~^~ and try new ideas?

How is your PLAN working - would you enjoy a change?
Is there better CALENDARING that would help keep you focused?
Are their CONTAINERS (trash, storage) you'd like to use differently or replace?
Are you using RECORD KEEPING to your advantage or do you need a change?
Do you need to refocus on DONATION?

today was the dejunking hour... sounds like the "bewitching hour" from the old tv days.
dh took things 3 small grocery bags of stuff (including easter that I won't use but is in great shape).
got rid of 5 shelf unit (great shape and clean like new - bought it 2 years ago) - it is sitting on the front curb - hoping some one who needs shelving will take it.
consolidated cleaning supplies from laundry room.

ta ta until next tuesday or wednesday.

dd older didn't want to go through the basket of cloths, she had collected to sell when she had her organizing business, this weekend.
Well, tricky me 8-) :D , took the items from the hamper and laid them out in the living room. I didn't ask her to look at them Saturday as she was not feeling well. Sunday dh had left the door open to the front room and dd older meandered in there looking at her stuff.
She came to me and said that some of the stuff was actually hers. She was surprised as she was looking for some of the things for at least 6 months. it took 10 minutes and she and I went over the stuff and she donated half including the hamper that still had a tag on it. (I got for free from pottery barn when I bought my couch).
she even tossed two really old pair of uggs that could not be donated.

Dh took the donation in and asked if there was more to donate. wow he now looks forward to the process of donating our things (lol not his) :D

it wasn't a huge amount but it was something.

Yesterday I went in the garage on found the plastic recyclable garden pots - rinsed them and put them in recycling.
I washed the kite I had kept for 15 years and it frayed a bit and I couldn't donate it. so off to the trash.
dh tossed a couple things.
he cut up the box from the cleaning machine for the pool and recycled it.
None of this took a lot of time.

He also has agreed to reduce his tomatoes (in pots from 15 to 4) yay!

Next weekends goal for dd older - the jewelry

tuesday is decluttering day for me.
I had planned to continue on dd youngers stuff from the basement but decided to continue other work.
Some garage stuff done - tossed some pool stuff.
recycled more pots
worked on finding all of dd older jewelry for her to go through.
bring the 2 baskets of dd youngers down stairs for the 3 season room.

originally I had planned on going through dd youngers cloths with her. Now is not the time. Keeping my mom spirit together. working on kindness and guidance.

tossed an old hose that multiple dogs in the past have used on and off for a chewing toy. Put the new hose in back yard.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

I wish I could get the energy going for decluttering. My upstairs really needs it, and the garage, and what else?

Was able to toss some clothes - had a little disappointment that I didn't find more for donation, but I needed to be honest.

Also decided to give 3 blazers to dd20 in case of interview clothing needs, and for her meetings. I wasn't sure she'd want them at first, and thought maybe goodwill. But she convinced me that she would have to make purchases that wouldn't be as classic or have as much value. She pointed out the tailoring touches  like sewn-in pockets and nice linings, which are rare finds now. With her youthful figure, the blazers suddenly looked newer and much better in general, lol.

I'm glad I realized about myself that I look for softer jackets these days and don't even enjoy blazers any more. I think sometimes we keep things that make such good sense to our former selves!

Just to be clear, though... .. Nowhere near completion on clothing decisions that COULD happen around here.
