October 2022, Decluttering by Design

Postby Harriet » Sat Oct 01, 2022 3:13 pm

Today is a milestone of 2022, as we begin the LAST quarter of the year!
Is it time to ~^~shake ~^~ things ~^~up ~^~ and try new ideas?

How is your PLAN working - would you enjoy a change?
Is there better CALENDARING that would help keep you focused?
Are their CONTAINERS (for storage or for organizing in cubbies  ) you'd like to use differently or replace?
Are you using RECORD KEEPING to your advantage or do you need a change?
Do you need to refocus on DONATION?

It was so apparent during our storm prep how much we were hindered by all the stuff DH has kept. Really. Made our work so much harder. Neighbor who was helping with our generator said his neighbor needed a tarp, and what a chore it was to dig that big thing out for him. I hope he remembers.

hello all! hard to believe the last quarter is here already!
I have joined you all on decluttering again. I and the family have been getting rid of about 2 bags a week. nothing exciting.

yay d Nancy and all the work you have done d Harmony.
d Harmony I pray he sees that the stuff is making work harder.

I am praying my dd younger begins to realize that keeping everything makes her things cluttered and not special. She doesn't remember half of what she has and doesn't open boxes she gets.
I have been there so I know the struggle it will bring her. (and how it will not give her confidence - it will be just the opposite). I am grateful for donating 80 % of our home.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

My new motto is "It is easy for me to let go of the junk!"
Tossed the plastic dollar store measuring cups that had the amounts warn off,
they had been replaced with stainless steal ones.
I tosses a couple more items yea!

Wow, blessed, do you really think it's 80 percent. That is so amazing.

HRH has been decluttering storage spaces, mostly at the old house (dd's house). Every day that he has free, he gets one small portion. Today it was 2 boxes that had once had boots come in them, which he had filled with paperwork when we moved. So, he worked on those through the day and got that filing done with some new files. But mostly, it was throw-away. I help as I can when it is ours and leave him alone when it is his.

We worked on the bookshelves in the den, and they look so much better, with open spaces.

I worked on gathering addresses, etc., as best I can. Still no sign of the lost address box.

Together, we moved one of the computer screens (which is also a tv) from his office to the bedroom and now I have a place for watching exercise videos again, but also have a place for sitting up in bed with tv in case that's needed some next month. (I never usually do that, but dcousinMary mentioned it helps her sometimes when she's tired.) HRH says he wants me to have something entertaining if I need to spend time just sitting up in there, being quiet. I suppose I can get a bedjacket like Aunt Bea, lol.

He won't miss the screen in his office of wrap-around computer screens.

As containers, those boot-boxes for outdoor-type boots were very helpful. They wouldn't be completely protective in the way Rubber Maid or other plastic container-ing would, but boot-boxes are extremely sturdy cardboard, and these had secure closing. They are made to stand up to being stacked, too.

d harriet - if you really knew how much stuff I actually had - you would understand why it's 80% 8-)
truthfully I only want the stuff I touch on a regular basis and what special things, from both our families, that are in our glass case from the 1900's. limits as well.

My one Achilles heel is our photos - I really have to finish this family history and scanning etc.

Good for your dh going through the storage spaces!!! it's a lot of work both physically and mentally. I think the mental work of touching each item and making a decision for it is the hardest work.
your bookshelves look wonderful.

I pray you find your address box

well done on all your work! its a wow!

hi d Nancy! good for you = "It is easy for me to let go of the junk!"
yay for letting go as well!

I have 3 donations to drop off - a frame that is beautiful that I have nothing to put into it, 2 tops
I also exchanged my old hangers for the cheap version of the joy hangers. I put the hangers out front by 8's that are wrapped in rubber bands - if they don't go by tomorrow I will toss them.

I went through all my coats and sorted out some that do not fit now.
Moved them out of the main coat closet yea!
Some in the spare room closet, deciding on keep or donate but not today.
Sometimes grands use em.

So happy for that progress. Been meaning to get to that for a while.
Three were ones that go in the other closet bc they are actually shirts or over-shirts that go with other outfits.
