Lynlee's Eat Rite 4 Me Thread.

Postby Lynlee » Sun Feb 28, 2010 10:29 pm

I need to follow a special eating regime for my physical health and sanity.

Lately I let myself down , and it shows. Truth is I've made a lot of excuses over the last  20yrs which have had a great cost and risk. I owe it to myself to get back on track and stay on track as well. It is a long tedious journey.
Holding hope for a future.

    My needs
    Gluten free
    Potato free
    Sugar free / sweetener free
    Dairy free
    Cabbage free
    Artificials/preserative free
    Sulphate free/Nitate free/MSG free
    Feingold diet - low salicylate.
Feingold diet - low salicylate :? = Its a whole lot of restrictions on its own, but not as bad as failsafe I tried last yr and found I couldn't tolerate the food that was left!!!!! I'll trial avoiding following.
Food Sources of Salicylates
Almonds, Apples, Apricots, Aspirin, Berries, Cherries, Cloves, Coffee, Cucumbers, Currants, Grapes, Nectarines, Oil of wintergreen, Oranges, Peaches, Peppers (bell & chilli), Pickles, Plums, Prunes, Raisins, Rose hips, Tangelos, Tangerines, Tea, Tomatoes (+ Asprin & perfumes)
I used follow it when dks were young and for the 10 yrs I worked. It helped all of us then.

I want to keep to this as much as possible. CI how I'm going. Own up when I don't. And stay away from previous dangerous ground.

I am not suggesting anyone else does this.
I need to Hold onto hope I can return to health & coping.
Just begin.

*\o/*
Cheering you on, Lynlee. You will be marvelous.
Yes, you have great hope because you know you have been faithful to careful diet before. Yes, it is tedius. It makes me think of your careful stitching/crochet, though, and the lovely fun in that - it can be tedius, too, but it gives satisfaction and an ongoing reward just as this will.

I join you in avoiding gluten, dairy, artificials, citrus and aspirin.
So I'll send little encouraging thoughts out into the world for you as I notice myself remembering these.
All good wishes.

Thanks for your support Harriet.
I scared myself last week so I at least need to give this a good go. Putting it all together is such a creative thing.

lol - when kids were young often I was making 3 different things for us - after work - and as sole parent.

So I need to do this for me now. And for them and my dgks too and other family as well.

so far today
epsom salt w apple and mango juice 50%
Multigrain GF Orgran O's cashews figs goatmilk
(I might need to consider if cooked buckwheat, brown rice sunflower seeds is better for me as cereal base.)

I need eat now.
The bread I have has preservative 282 in it. I think I'll finish it. Will consider different $$$ bread. or its rice thins/cakes only.
Lunch (edit to add)
2 slices GF/DF low GI bread, PB, banana. Made the leftover banana into banana gmilk shake.

few grapes
rice mix veg mayonaise (contains 20%honey) chicken.
>2L Water yay.
Just begin.

Lynlee, I'm sorry your diet has to be so restricted. Good luck sticking to what keeps you healthiest.

Thanks Harmony.
Compared with my personal things plus fail safe diet - this isn't so bad. Turned out their allowed food was'nt allowed for me. Even put me off things like swede and leek from eating them too much. Turns out they have the sulphate connection . Hoping I am ok with them occassionally. I used use them in soup and casseroles.

Following that did help me keep on track with my own GF, DF, SugarF. Potato etc and got rid of the screaming ab pain. The sugar messes with my head and is v addictive to me. I forgot the no tea or coffee. I've been off them since late 70's. I'm still letting myself have plain cocoa drinks. I think its ok.

Wednesday I got to tick eat rite 4 me on my day summary. food all ok, 3 meals plus fruit snacks.
I'm late with breakfast today, but will try to swing 3 meals anyway.
Just begin.

Thank you Nancy.
Yesterday I ate well too. Missed water intake by <1glass.

I think my head is clearer.
Today I take on pdoc and hope to convince him that dietry control is effectice,
and his suggested meds with "tiny amount" of sedative with 100% links to my disaster times is too much of a risk.
I am eternally thankful to the pdoc who showed me that link 32 yrs ago.
Any "this might be different" experiments have not gone well.

Doing the right food is not the easiest.
Nor is the sedation thing. Esp when theres mention of surgery or tests...

Mostly I'm eating the right thing.
Yesterday I ate a carob coated Buckwheat Crispbread - brought before I renewed my decision to get solidly into this.

Again - mostly ok.
Put some mixed fruit (sultanas/rasins/peel) in my desert last night.
And there were bits of date in a slice I bought yesterday.
So there in the forbiden salicylate list. But if not having other sals ok. Though the grape connection turned up in an allergy test so I shouldn't.
Headache - I think its neck related rather than food.
Just begin.
