Harriet it is very interesting but oh so confusing. I want something simple like exchanges.

Winter squash goes in the category of a starch too.

I no longer test at home too because they come up normal. So I rely on my A1C's. I may check once or twice a month just to see my at home numbers but for the most part no checking.

I've done my ex. today walked the hill.
Hiked yesterday at the park w/ dgds that was fun!
Today [thurs.] walked pushing dgd#3 in her stroller she fell asleep on the way back home.
8-)
Lovely weather here this morning too.
Yard work after the wind storm here yesterday is my exercise today.

I`know`what`you`mean`about`confusing`Indiana.
I`"GI"`list`I`saw`had`(guessing)20`different`entries`for`banana...often`different.
I'm`not`about`to`eat`green`bananas`because`of`increased`salicylate`content.
Then`theres`the`thing`of`putting`2`starches`together`to`make`a`"complete`protien"
I`know`it`was`beans/pulses`and`corn...(as`in`mexican`food)
and`there`was`something`and`potato...but`I`forget`what???? :?:

The`thing`with`bananas`is`add`some`protien`(PB),and`a`low`gi`bread/starch`is`best.
Though`the`other`day`I`ate`a`banana`and`got`an`instant`headache..
similar`to`my`intollerant/allergy`headache..so`might`need`see`if`that`is`true.
I`could`be`the`amines`in`bananas...
One`time`I`got`an`instant`headache`from`picking`at`meat`crispy`brownings`in`the`pan-
definately`an`amine`thing.
With`both`salicylates`and`amines`the`effect`is`cumulative...
`and`there`are`many`types`of`amines.
banana`smoothy`rates`better`than`just`banana...
I`always`thought`it`was`just`a`quick`fix`for`a`missed`meal`come`walking`time.

A`clue`with`moderate`/high`rating`food`on`GI`list..Lower`portion`size.
eat`with`protien`,or`added`vinegar`slows`the`uptake`and`drop`of`blood`glucose`levels.
edit`to`add..
high`fiber`content`slows`it`down`also.

That`day`I`did`fairly`constant`testing`it`was`so`interesting`to`see`the`effect
my`usual`food`had`on`me..Chicken`and`veg`scarcely`moved`b-glucose`levels.
Last`week`I`tested`before`and`after`a`walk`just`to`see`the`difference.

I`am`trying`to`move`towards`the`lower`rated`GI`foods...`adding`buckwheat,quinoa`to`my`grains.
(there`are`plenty`on`low`GI`gluten`grains`so`thats`not`an`issue`if`you`can`eat`them)
I`think`we`are`all`an`experiment`of`one...
Others`experience`can`be`helpful...but`our`own`reaction`can`differ.

Yesterday`I`chose`a`big`chinese`meal`with`lots`of`protein(chicken/lamb/egg)
lots`of`veg,not`a`lot`of`rice...before`driving`home.It`helped`I'm`sure.
(a`suggestion`from`peak`performance`living`book)
Though`there`may`have`been`gluten`in`some`dishes...It`was`about`best`choices.
Other`option`was`doner`kebab(without`the`flat`bread`-just`on`a`plate.)

Silly`question---`whats`AIC?

just`added`fiber`to`list`of`what`slows`glucose`uptake...

I'm`thinking`all`the`strategies`are`so`connected..

Today`I`got`the`results`of`my`daylong`blood`glucose`testing.
I`am`hypoglycemic`in`that`my`levels`fell`below`4`at`one`point.
Apparently`any`levels`that`go`down`to`4`are`considered`hypoglycemic`these`days.
(Its`a`long`way`since`the`days`my`levels`could`reach`1.6`and`I`still`was`not`
diagnosed`by`the`so`called`experts`of`1980.`I`had`the`book`at`that`time..anyway.
Did`I`believe`them???`not`at`all.)

My`pdoc`did`like`the`eating`regime`in`the`book.
He`said`its`what/how`he`eats`apart`from`the`brewers`yeast.
I`said`no`way`was`I`eating`brewers`yeast....tried`it`in`long`ago`years.
He`was`very`pointed`about`PBnot`being`good...`said`it`was`the`worst`of`the`fats.
Not`sure`that`I`can`go`without`it`as`its`been`interigal.

http://www.amazon.com/Hypoglycemia-Bett ... 093209001X
is`the`book`I`have...its`30yrs`old.
ummm.to`reread`it...`or`at`least`the`action`part.(not`the`dx`part)
It`may`be`difficult`with`all`the`things`I`don't`eat.
I`never`did`follow`that`eating`regime`exactly...took`some`of`it.

ok`I`might`just`do`one`thing/one`change`at`a`time.
Last`night`I`took`Thyroid`meds`at`9pm...I`might`keep`that`if`I`can
"Morning`drink"`is`meant`to`be`followed`by`a`walk`or`gardening.
Then`s2s`before`breakfast. ugggh`unwilling...tragging`my`heels`...
:?: ..could`I`try`it`at`least? :?:
Of`the`drinks`recommended`I`have`dandelion`tea,or`apple`cider`vinegar.
Maybe`just`try`it`to`see.

Another`thing`is`adding`3`snacks`to`3`main`meals...This`I`don't`do.
Just begin.

Not sure if this goes here or not, but Kathryn & Helia both had some insights today on music & (especially emotional) eating connections. I too realized that I've been humming or singing all week (after a hymn sing at church on Sunday). What they're saying is that it seems that when our 'soul' is full of music, there's little time or brain room left to start thinking about filling our mouths/tummies with satisfying foods. I know for me a lot of eating is just grazing & the thought process before it. I am going to give music a 'whirl' (pun intended  ) to see what a difference it makes in my eating patterns.

Kathryn's post:
Have I told you about filling my soul with music?
It happened at the funeral last week (wow, has it only been a week?!)
After listening to over 2 hours of music, I went down to the luncheon at 1:15. And had just a few veggies, a couple of 1" squares, tea and 1/4 of a sandwich. For dinner that night I could barely eat 1 piece of fish plus 1/3 of an order of fries from the fish and chip place.
It took a few days to realize that my soul was filled with music so I didn't need the food to try and fill the hole that was there from emotions and tiredness.
I've been processing that piece of information for almost a week and trying to figure out how to use it to my advantage. I'm starting by singing more. Trying to focus on a song or two through the day and singing it over and over.

Helia
-Music musings: Yes, I use music fairly frequently to keep my mind off food (I think this works for me b/c what I'm actually craving is a pleasurable or comforting experience, and both music and food can fit that bill for me. . . ) and to energize me for cleaning.

It certainly can't hurt to fill my soul & mind with music -we certainly have enough of it around here -just have been ignoring it for the better part of a year. I'm eager to see how this works for me -thanks, Kathryn & Helia! :)

Thanks, Indiana -well I'm trying this and see what happens over the next week or so -not that it'll hurt to have the music in the background anyway and something usually 'sticks' with me.
