Food and/or Exercise Log, June 2011

Postby Harriet » Wed Jun 08, 2011 10:13 am

This was Emptynester's title for a thread in which many of us used to briefly record healthy habits.

Use it just as a Food Log, or add Exercise, Weight Tracking or other Health Marker notes as you see fit.

Happy Accountability!.

Was just thinking about this yesterday, Harriet. I've been really trying to keep my BS at an acceptable level and this may be just the place to record that and dare I say, weight?

BS for June (always taken fasting in the AM) at least I'm beginning to do better and be more consistent. I'm fighting this disease much as I see those around me fighting so many different diseases. It finally dawned on me that this is a 'fight' too, one I can more easily win than some of the others if I only apply what I know is good for me!
June 1 - 168
June 2 - 112
June 3 - 132
June 4 - 141
June 5 - 104
June 6 - 137
June 7 - 107
June 8 - 101

Weight -well that's being stubborn. Have no doubt I'll probably drop a few pounds all at once overnight or something soon.
Know last 2 weights were:
June 7 -175.4
June 8 -176 -hmmmm,,,,that's the wrong direction isn't it?
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Breakfast: 1.5 cups Homemade vegetable juice, in 2 sittings
Lunch: 6-inch Subway Veggie Delite flatbread sandwich with avocado

So, today 3.5 servings of veggies/fruits by 1:00.
Need to work on Protein for the rest of the day.

This is just my logging. My H and F post has the "WHY" of these choices. Exercise log is needed.

Supper: milk, another serving of salad veggies, the Natural Choice Ham and Peanut M&Ms.

Alrighty! I finally made the commitment (instead of just wishing I would do it) to track my intake and post here for accountability, inspiration and motivation. I dug out my excel sheet tracker I used when Indiana taught me how to track food exchanges in Aug 2010. I know it works. I just have to use it.

Saturday June 11th =
Category (goal) actual
Calories (1500) 1264.5
Free Foods (3) 0.2
Meat (6) 3.9
Fat (4) 2.0
Veg (4) 4.0
Milk (3) 2.9
Fruit (3) 0.4
Starches (6) 6.5

B: Oatmeal/blueberries/flaxmeal/pecan/yogurt mixture, milk & coffee
L: Spaghetti with sauce, onion slices (fresh from garden YUM!) and a carrot
Mid-day analysis....
Almost out of carbs! EEK!
Need to focus on protein, fruit and milk categories the rest of the day.

S: Hamburger patty & hummus on bread
Bedtime: milk

Nancy, you may have found one more type of meal you can enjoy; that's great.

Today
Breakfast: Protein shake made with soymilk and 1 tsp flaxseed oil
Brunch: raisin-fiber cereal with milk
Lunch: Baked Potato with butter
Supper: spinich soufle, big tossed salad with ginger dressing, grapes on the side

A good day. According to my online food tracker, the only way in which I went "over" was in sugars, so I read through it and discovered that the cereal had 14 g!!! Yikes, there was the problem - that's like having a dessert. Next highest was the grapes but I forgive them!

Harriett & Nancy - you are doing so well! POTB!!

The scales showed a 4.4 weight loss this morning!   I know it is water weight loss, but there is a part of me that doesn't care WHY - I just like seeing the smaller #. :D

Sunday June 12th -
B: Oatmeal/blueberries/flaxmeal/pecan/yogurt mixture, milk & coffee
L: Sliced Honey Ham, Batter fried squash
D: Talapia parm encrusted with small amount of tartar sauce, boiled squash
S: Frozen grape juice popsicles
S: 2 oreo cookies

Calories (1500) 1452.5
Free Foods (3) 0.2
Meat (6) 3.1
Fat (4) 8.9
Veg (4) 4.9
Milk (3) 2.9
Fruit (3) 2.7
Starches (6) 3.5

review & analysis - the batter fried squash is only eaten at this time of the year, so I'm not going to stress over the fat being too high today. Protein and starches were reduced which balanced the calories out.

Saw this article on something Indiana, lucylee and OKay have all mentioned at different times - probably several others I'm forgetting. Glancing at this, it does seem like there can be a lot to it if you want to observe your diet carefully.

How To Master Carb Counting

That's terrific you had the loss, OKay. Plan working out. Of course, it is all due to us  (ducking and running).

Meant to ask Dee, do you think you are seeing a trend there, because I sorta do - it looks good. Kudos on tracking.

Today:
Breakfast: mixed berries in soymilk shake, w/1 tsp flaxseed oil and protein powder
Lunch: 1/2 Big Mac, 1 cup cola
Snack: 1/2 baked potato, 2-inch triangle sandwich of Natural Choice ham on grocery store flatbread
Supper: 1/2 Big Mac, 1 cup cola, spinich soufle leftover, small salad, 3 peanut M&Ms

Harriet - i enjoyed the link and reading that article. I have Indiana voice in my head asking "are you counting carbs or starches?" It seemed to take me soooo long to learn they aren't the same thing when using the exhange method. Poor Indiana sure had her hands full getting me to understand that.

In my excel spreadsheet I do record both ways (carbs & starches) but I keep the carbs hidden 99% of the time. Sometimes I unhide the carb information just to compare, but it quickly confuses me so I hide it again.

When I look at today's carbs they are too high....but I was low on the starches using the exchange system.

What (goal) actual
Calories (1500) 1452.5
Fat (55g) 69.8
Sodium (2000mg) 1755.6
Carbs (125g) 165.5
Fiber (25) 21.9
Sugars (60) 84.2
Protein (55) 57.1
