Oh drat I feel so stupid. OKay, (or Indiana) can you give me a repeat of the lesson on what the difference is between carbs/starches/sugars? I promise I will print it out this time so I don't have to ask again.

Which do you all think is most important to count?
Tomorrow is another day.

lucylee, it was late July and August when you all were discussing the starch and carb planning, if that helps.

Today
Breakfast: mixed berries in soymilk shake, w/1 tsp flaxseed oil and protein powder
Lunch: veggie pizza (spinich, bell pepper) 3 small pieces, thin crust
Supper: cheeseburger, large salad with spinich, ginger dressing, 1 cup cola

bought Green Goddess dressing at the store because I'm in a rut! It just looks so pretty! I won't use much.

LucyLee - I consider myself a novice so hesitate to answer.

I need to learn what is a normal portion (aka serving size) so counting exchanges help me do that. Each exchange = a correct sized portion of food. Also I want to eat a well rounded meal (meat/veg/fruit/carb) so the exchanges excel in that. (IMHO)

MY goal is for correct sized portions and quantity of food to become normal to me. I have to train my eyes, stomach and mind to accept portion size.

Free Foods (3) 0.2
Meat (6) 8.3
Fat (4) 4.0
Veg (4) 3.3
Milk (3) 0.8
Fruit (3) 0.0
Starches (6) 5.9

4am - coffee & milk
8am - Fiber Plus bar
10am - 2 oz ham and 1 slice cheese
Noon - 4oz fried chicken strip, 8 oz bean & chili soup
5pm - cottage cheese, cherry tomatoes, sliced beets
 Mid day analysis .......need to focus on vegetable, milk and fruit the rest of the day
 evening analysis....... I'm fairly happy with intake today considering I'm eating at hospital cafeteria. The choices are limited and the cooked vegetable are too nasty looking for me to attempt to eat.
 Last night analysis..... I ate sandwich late at night. Not beating myself up but acknowledging that I could have made better choice by eating fruit and glass of milk instead.

6 lb Weight loss since June 11th

I'm trying to learn how to eat like a regular person. So when there is some thing different I do not panic for example a family meal, B.B.Q., potluck, dining out at a cafe' where there is high carbs. I can know to have one but not all of the servings or like our son says don't eat it all!
Prep. for traveling if we ever get to do that again. So I've been expanding my choices and
having various foods I've not had since my diab. diagnoses. Getting more confident in this now yea!

I'm still working on the fruit habit, for breakfast raisins in the bran flakes cereal {raisin bran} counts!

Breakfast: protein shake with mixed berries, soymilk, flaxseed oil
Lunch: leftover veggie pizza
Supper: Pad Thai and rice, big salad with GG dressing

Today I got spooked by eating the Thai restaurant meal HRH brought home for us. Oriental is never the right choice for me as it makes me retain water. (Japanese is not too bad) We both ate more than we intended. I never ate another bite after it, and that was probably an overreaction, since it was early. I had been able to post a total of 3 lost pounds in H and F thread today, and I do hate to blow that but I shouldn't have just starved myself. Now it's too late to eat. Oh, well.

Okay, I hadn't thought of how difficult this might be for you with hospital cafeteria. Check out all their options and don't overlook any, so you can have variety.

Breakfast: Fresh local blackberries here, too, Nancy, in a protein shake with flaxseed oil
Lunch: pork roast, slaw, 2 french fries, cola
Dinner: big salad with fresh, local cucumber and also snap peas, ice cream

The meal yesterday made my scale pop up by 1/2 pound even though it was not the full purchased portion and my calories for the day were low. Just can't do most Oriental without the water weight happening. It's a wonder I kept it to 1/2, I have seen 2 if I dared to eat the full meal, or have a spring roll.
