The low dose nightly bp pill the kidney specialist prescribed is a success so far and seems to have made HRH feel better as dr said. He did not have daytime bp numbers that would have made you think he needed it, but dr explains that nagging kidney discomfort can be because of nighttime bp. I think I remember some of my older relatives mentioning this type of kidney-area pain, so I wish they could have known this info to ask their dr about bp.

One day HRH's morning blood sugar skyrocketed  after falling off the vegetarian wagon and having shrimp the night before. We were astonished, though his books say that can happen. Dd gave him a pep-talk to just get right back on track and forget one number. Carbs just don't do that to him. He can worry about a day with too many questionable carbs and the next morning have a number to record that is right in line. Of all the animal proteins, an egg seems to affect him least, which goes along with some info we've read about ovo-vegetarian eating. And he always fries it in coconut oil - maybe since that reduces bs it really is evening things out for him. I'd like to think he can have an occasional egg - so full of good nutrition, filling in a few gaps.

Recommendation - Green tea may be helping as well. He says the best tasting to him is the plain Twinings brand of tea bags. He brews two bags, and makes that into a daily quart of ice tea for the fridge. Anyway, through diet and good thinking, bit by bit his kidney health should be improving. Vital stuff, because he needs to make a U-turn with that and not have to face sitting still for any kidney treatments in his future. As antsy as he gets, he would be one lousy candidate for that. So I need him to make a U-turn so I won't have to listen to him complain!

I followed a link last night - suggesting not sitting (or standing) for long periods. 30 min then move. I'm trying to remember to do that.

Spent too much time at the computer this morning but my fitbit needed charging.

I worked on the dashboard trying to adjust the new dashboard into something I like. I still prefer the old one but neither give me what I'm looking for - historical monthly data. There's a lot of gaps in the displayed fitbit data. I know they have the numbers but if I don't record them for myself, they are gone after 30 days or so. I can still find my standing for December, but the November one is missing. I'll have to see if I posted it on the FB page - if not it appears to be gone forever.

The new dashboard eliminates the link to the fitbit group page but I added a hard bookmark to it on my bookmark toolbar. Shouldn't have to do that though, since it is automatic on the old dashboard view. Really, why do they take things away when they make things 'new'?

I'm still on track to average 10K per day. I had a lot of low days this month but also a number of better days. Because of school, Mondays are usually well over 10K since there is 5K to/from school plus whatever else I do with dh through the day.

This will make the fourth month I've had that average. Within my fitbit group, I've placed ~49th (can't recall, can't find the data), 41st and this month I'm currently 69th. My step count hasn't changed, it is what others are doing that affects my standing. I guess more people are regularly walking in January. I note the number of active members has gone up by 50 and I'm guessing they are all walking about what I walk or a little more.

It will be interesting to see if I move up or remain the same in February as resolutions get broken.

Today is a cigarette smoke day in the apartment so I may go to the library for part of the day.

I've used this free fitbit information export with good success.

I think I might have made some progress in getting DD to seek speech therapy for DGD3. It was done gently and I don't think I set off any alarm bells with DD. I told DD that DGD3 would be made fun of by other kids when she starts to school this fall, because she can't talk where they can understand her. That seemed to get to DD. She doesn't want DGD3 to be put down by her peers. DD asked "Can't I teach her everything a speech therapist could?" I told her "yes, you can. it is just that they have years of training how to exercise those muscles. Once the speech therapist shows DGD3 to correct way to make a sound, then it is important for you to follow up and continue to help DGD3 practice in between the therapy sessions". I told DD about some of the exercises that LO does for his speech therapy. After hearing some of the fun games the speech therapist uses to exercise those tongue & mouth muscles, DD agreed to check on available speech program for DGD3.

Groan.....mammogram wasn't a complete success. They called today and said there is something there and they want me to come in for an ultrasound. yeah. yeah. Okay. Next Tuesday. putting it out of my mind for now....
1. Know what you want.
2. Go after it relentlessly.

Well, an ultrasound days after the mammogram sounds a lot better than immediate biopsy and sonogram, LadyM. They don't sound too excited. The follow-up ultrasound was prescribed for me and it was a cyst. I suppose they really can't identify a cyst at all until the ultrasound - such completely different methods.

Great job on the frank talk with dd about dgd's future school days. I'm sure you are right on target with your predictions, too. She will have so much to say to new friends and teachers. She needs to be on the most efficient track to better communication so she can blossom and feel appreciated.

Kathryn, what a strong steps report, but it sounds like you are in fast company. :) Are you sure some of these folks aren't putting the fitbit on their 10-year-olds for a while each day? :D I guess that wouldn't work. But I still wonder if someone who walks for a living, like a meter reader or dog-walker, might not just have fun with the contest, knowing they are a ringer. As you say, if this is resolutions-related, February could reveal more consistent patterns.

Lynlee, that makes sense. If companies buy these standing desks for their desk employees, but that's still the only desk, aren't they still enforcing a same-position day? It seems to me cashiers would laugh at the idea of standing at a desk all day being more healthy than taking a seat. Moderation, I suppose. Oh, I just thought of what companies should provide - timers. Or if it's a big office, everybody get up and do the hokey-pokey together? :)

I had a 1,200 calorie day yesterday. Right now, MyCalorieCounter is collecting my food data and hanging on to it better than it ever has.

I had to start over completely on the weight tracker, though, so I'm sympathizing with our activity-tracker folks who wonder about history. At some point recently, all my entries over a long period defaulted to 150 pounds each. I don't know if that number is because of the site's perceived ball-park category for me, or if everyone's weight on the whole site suddenly showed "150". (Can you imagine? :o There would have been a disturbance in the Force that day, for sure.) There are no longer forums for discussion or questions, though there may be a social media site that is active (but which?) , so it's not worth the hunt for answers. I don't care that much. I had been pleased to go in and see all those dates represented, just because it reminded me that I have been consistent in recording 8-) but if they no longer mean anything, I still have my 3-ring notebook's info.

(LadyM). Good job getting DD to agree on speech therapy.

Harriet, I am just mystified about the BS thing. I always thought it was carbs that drove up BS. When I eat more carbs with not enough protein (meat) I tend to get low BSs and will bottom out if I'm not careful. A bit of any type protein will keep that from happening. Is it normal for meat to cause BS to go up so much? That just sounds so backwards to me.

I have lost a bit more, but I'm sure this isn't healthy for me. I'm just at 11 lbs gone and can tell the difference in the mirror and the way my clothes fit. I just have no appetite, and I'm almost sure it's from the antibiotic. Tomorrow is my last dose.

Harriet - intolerances let bs down for me (and others I've heard via fedup.com.au.) Maybe they can send them up (first? ) as well.
I'd be looking at every component of that meal. from oils, dressings, herbs, spices as well as the protein type. See if there was anything else consumed out of the ordinary. Mind you - allergies are often to the protein in things. Normally protein and fats /oils are a stabiliser of bs. From what I've read.
Just begin.

((Harmony)) I've heard many people say that antibiotics can make them feel weary and "out of it". And if someone's not feeling energetic, how much appetite could they really have, so I guess that makes sense. So grateful for you that tomorrow marks the end of that. Dd34 is having to take a smaller dose of antibiotic for a longer period of time because she is a nursing mother. This is carefully monitored by dr, but I can't help but wonder if darling baby is feeling down in any way "on" the antibiotics.

When I eat more carbs with not enough protein (meat) I tend to get low BSs and will bottom out if I'm not careful.

Yep, it brings HRH's down, too, but he needs it down and you probably don't. He is careful to get enough protein from other foods (and sometimes egg) the way the vegan reversing prediabetes books say. Dr says he'd like him to think in terms of a little protein with each meal. (That's our regular dr, who is himself on Atkins, so they are amused at each other's needs - good friends.) Whether he has ever - ever! - had a spell of actual low blood sugar I'm not sure. That doesn't seem to be a part of his world, lol. He thought his might be low one day, feeling bad, but when he tested it was not low and something else must have been bothering him. I'm sure if he wasn't generally watching out for bad carbs, they would send his bs up, too, but he's pretty sensible.
