Hmmmm, questioning my doctor now.
Had my annual physical and knee x-ray results. Knees have extreme osteoarthritis.
He wants me to take 2000 IU of vitamin D. I told him I take a supplement of 1000, plus my multi, plus the amount in my diet, specifically milk. He said there was none in milk. I said it was fortified and I was concerned about taking too much vit D. He said it isn't a concern, excess is peed out.
Turns out I'm right.
1. Milk is fortified. About 100 IU per glass. I have at least 2 glasses a day.
2. 1000 in supplement plus my multi at 800, plus 2 glasses of milk = 2000.
3. Vitamin D is fat soluble, therefore not peed out.
As for calcium, he wants 1200 mg per day. Two glasses of milk = 600, my multi has 400 and I get 330 at bedtime in my calc/mag supplement (which also has Vitamin D, 200 IU, come to think of it.) So I'm good there, in fact slightly over so if I miss a glass of milk (common when I'm traveling) I'm still getting almost enough.
My problem, is if he wrong on this easy stuff that I can double check - what else he wrong about?
