One of the keys to healthy eating is to keep a diary of what has been eaten. With that in mind we are tracking our food each day.

January 1 through 3 - Comments

Thursday - Jan 1

Breakfast was big and I was full all day. It is better to have a smaller breakfast so I can get my other food groups.

Friday - Jan 2

Yep I'm doing better with 1/2 or 1/3 servings. I don't get full so I can get other food groups in. I had munchies for some reason this morning so I had the cereal dry last so I could just munch on it.

Ah ha - light bulb moment. I may be grasping at straws but I think because I went so long not eating much that my stomach shrunk and now gets full easily so my eyes are bigger than my stomach.

Saturday - Jan 3

I'm on a fruit salad kick. It just tastes so good for some reason.

lucylee stick with it. It took me a while to get the hunger feeling down as far as how hungry am I. Once it click for you it will be great. Salsa and chips will make me thirsty especially because I don't eat chips often and I make my own salsa without salt.

Good... fresh start... and we're going to do a week in a post, right? Sounds good.
I am using hunger scale from book, If I Am So Smart, Why Can't I Lose Weight? It goes from -10, which would be the last moment before fainting from starvation, to +10 -- stuffed to the point of sickness, I guess. It advises that we always stay in the -2 -- +2 range.

Jan. 1
Breakfast -- 10:00
pb crackers, banana, diet coke -- hunger scale -1, needed to eat
Snack -- 1:00
praline pecans -- -2, but not a good choice
Snack? -- 5:00
chocolate chip cookie, handful of crackers -- -4, but not a good choice
Supper -- 7:00
bar-b-que pork stuffed potato -- -3, felt much better after eating
Snack -- 9:30 (@ movie)
popcorn -- 0, shouldn't have eaten any, but glad I didn't overstuff on it

Jan. 2
Breakfast -- 10:00
pb crackers, banana, diet coke -- hunger scale -2 or 3, needed to eat
Lunch -- 1:00
slice (large slice!) thin crust pepperoni pizza @ Sbarro's in mall -- -3, needed to eat
diet coke
Snack -- 6:00
one-fourth king size Hershey w/almonds -- -1, just wanted to see if it was still good (It has been partially unwrapped in my school bag for two weeks!)
Supper -- 7:00
popcorn shrimp, maybe a tablespoon or two of cocktail sauce,
salad (basically just lettuce) w/Italian dressing,
1 hush puppy,
too many beniettes. (I don't know how to spell that and neither does spell check, it seems.)
diet coke
-- started at -2 maybe... ended at +?8? maybe... * sigh *
Snack -- 11:00
finished off that candy bar... ?? I have no idea why.

Saturday, Jan. 3
Breakfast 10:30 * hunger -1?

Egg McMuffin (only ate one half of muffin, only ate part of 2 egg whites)
Cinnamelts
Banana
Diet Coke
Lunch? 1:00 * hunger 0 -- just trying to wake myself up --
pb crackers
4 chocolate chip pecan cookies
diet coke
Snack/Supper? 4:30 * hunger 0 -- just ate b/c dh was about to finish off the salsa and I hadn't had any!
salsa and chips
bottle of Propel water
6:00 * I must be dehydrated
another bottle of Propel water

Thursday
Apple
Fresh sugar snap peas ¾ cup
Tuna salad w/a whole celery stalk, chopped, one cup milk
1 piece fried perch, one hush puppy
Medium tossed salad w/ ¼ avocado
Very small serving spaghetti with meat sauce
1 slice garlic bread
only 1/2 a small Pepsi

Friday
A bowl of cherries!
Strawberries over a Special K waffle w/¼ cup dark chocolate chips
One piece of perch
Yogurt, small serving
Sbarro’s small size Greek salad
10 malted milk balls
small Pepsi
small serving broccoli and pasta
1/2 slice cheesecake

a little more variety - this is good. I exercised a lot today so it felt right to get more calories than usual, but I need to watch the sweets.

lucylee, I am impressed you are learning to measure hunger.
Indiana, that sounds like it could be it.

Saturday Eating
cup of skim milk over cup of Rice Krispies
individual unsweetened applesauce
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1 slice toast
tuna salad with a full celery stalk, cup of milk
yogurt
Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash Ravioli
(best tv dinner for healthy eating, I think - tastes great)
1 roll
1/2 small Pepsi
2 "orange slice" candies

Sunday Eating
apple
turkey half-sandwich with lettuce, cup of milk
very small serving lasagna
1 slice garlic toast
1/2 cup chocolate milk
10 graham cracker teddy bears
handful of popcorn
1/2 small Pepsi
big tossed salad w/1/4 of an avocado
If you don't believe in miracles, you're not being realistic.

Measuring hunger doesn't seem to be doing any great work in my crazy eating habits yet.
Kinda like knowing how to do algebra, I imagine, but putting it to no practical use.

lucylee, I guess I waited until Monday because that's Indiana's focus thread's first day, which I lined up with my declutter first day - so it is Indiana's fault! See, that works! ;) Don't know if I'll go 7 days in one or not. Why forget your Sunday - you made some good choices except for drinks.

Monday Eating
1 cup skim milk over 1 cup Rice Krispies
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
single serving unsweetened applesauce
half-sandwich of turkey with lettuce, 1 cup milk
Carolina Classic MEAL from Wendy's
(waiting so long at dr's office and pharmacy, getting hungry, only able to eat in car where salad was unmanageable, with sick dh who could only bear Wendy's baked potato) I understand HOW it happened, but it is disappointing.

Tuesday Eating
Special K waffle and 5 large frozen strawberries, warmed
with 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
1 cup skim milk
Quaker Granola bar x 2
... ...electricity out most of evening = supper plan change... ...
Wendy's Taco Salad, no dressing, no chips, & a few bites of dh's potato
small Pepsi
... ... dd was still hungry late after strange day and we shared ChefBoyArDee mini Ravioli... ...

Wednesday Eating
Kashi Apple Orchard cereal with 1 cup 1-percent milk
turkey half-sandwich with lettuce, 1 cup milk
yogurt
small servings of traditional turkey/stuffing dinner
roll

Thursday Eating
apple
turkey half-sandwich with 1 cup milk
leftovers of yesterday's dinner, even smaller portions
large tossed salad with 1/2 an avocado
small Pepsi

Okay, I'll not FORGET Sunday, but I'll start here w/this week:
Monday, Jan. 5
Breakfast 6:30
-- Hunger -4?
Special K Protein cereal, no milk
Banana
Diet Coke
Snack 12:00 -- Hunger -3?
Nature Valley almond crunch granola bar
bottle of Propel water
Snack 2:30 -- Hunger -4?
Special K cinnamon snack bar
Handful of tortilla chips
bottle of Propel water
Supper -- Hunger is going to be -10
b/c we can't eat till whoknowswhen b/c satellite tv man JUST got here. Appt was 12-4; he arrived at 5:00. He did call at 3:30 to say he would be here in about an hour.
FINALLY
Supper 9:00 -5

Subway Club sandwich, double meat, 7-grain wheat bread
Baked potato chips
1 Chocolate chip pecan cookie (mine, not Subway's)

  And I wish I could just QUIT eating for about a month. Maybe six months. Just saw Christmas pictures. I look as big as a horse compared to dsisil in the family photo from dinlaws'... Dsisil (almost exactly same age as me) claims she still wears an 8 (pants); dh doesn't believe her... but she is obviously smaller than me. (I wear a 14, generally). She is also wearing more figure flattering clothes... sweater w/little thin belt. I have on looser sweater that hits at widest part, b/c I can't stand for anything to be clinging to my stomach. So... apparently my favorite sweater is just one step away from a mu-mu... She ALSO has neat, chic hairdo (which dh hates, btw) while I have my hair in a ponytail. It was very humid here Christmas Eve. Dsisil does NOT have thick, curly, unmanageable hair. Christmas pictures are very depressing.
Maybe I should enlarge it to 8x10 and post it in the kitchen.

Tues., Jan. 6
Breakfast 6:30 -- Hunger -4?

1/2 cup Special K Protein cereal, no milk
Banana
Diet Coke
Lunch 12:00 -- Hunger -2?

apple
Nature Valley almond crunch bar
Supper 7:00 -- Hunger -3
Sonic Jr. Burger, only ate half the bun
French fries
Diet Cherry Coke
Jr. Sundae w/Oreo, no whipped cream

I don't know if this is going to work, trying to put a whole week in one post. I write too much. Guess that means I EAT too much, right? I know I put a lot of "commentary" into my posts, too. Hmmm...

Breakfast - tea, small bowl of All Bran cereal 3 pts.
Lunch - tuna wrap, pear, yogurt 6.5 pts.
Afternoon Snacking - this starts to look ugly. 1 apple, about 1/2 serving of goldfish crackers, a piece of a cookie, tea. I'm guesstimating about 4.5 pts.
Supper - about 1 cup rice, small piece of teriyaki trout, 1/2 grapefruit w/ some sugar, too many little bits of bread (the baguette was very narrow), some w/butter. 11 pts?

There's more. . .
Dessert - 1/2 serving of baklava (from pkg. daunt and uncle sent us) and a cup of tea.

Exercise - nothing significant. I did do DDR for about 6 minutes.
