Another good day, eating lower calorie, lower carb. Made my 10K steps despite a lot of time at the computer. Dh wanted to pick up milk so we had a .9 mile walk to the store after my 1.5 mile walk with a friend.

He bought 8 liters of milk tonight. I had questioned that just because I like the walk with him every 2 - 3 days and now we won't have to go to the store for 6 days at least (we still had 2.5 liters at home.) I seriously thing he's addicted and afraid we'll run out of milk. Never mind there are 4 stores within a 15 minute walk, that sell it. It is kind of sad (plus a drag because so much of my fridge is constantly filled with milk.)

I need a good night's sleep since last night was awful. Will check to see if dh is heading to bed now.

Twins', the eating to 80 percent fullness should help with weight loss. There are some Asian cultures that advise that. Half of each meal from fat, or close, is a huge change for you.

I have an "it's a small world" feeling with your current project. I noticed Dr. Hyman recommended that book - he's the one who authored the 2014 "10 Day" series of books for getting off processed sugar using a lot of plant fats. I had tried his whole-food smoothies (and I sometimes still do - avocado, yum). I couldn't have kept up the frequency he suggested of having them because of my weight. The same nut butters that make them tasty also seemed to put weight on me. I do think they can help someone struggling with sodas and sweets to wean over to whole foods. I don't believe at that time he was recommending getting fats from meats, but maybe he is now. I know in addition to recommending whole foods, he wanted only grass-fed beef and was dead-set against all dairy, and his dairy arguments were hard for me to hear then. It was his book that led me to the many books by Dr. Fuhrman, who feels the same about dairy, and suggests meats in condiment portions with emphasis on choosing foods by their nutrition scores like the "ANDI" score, etc.

Then it was Fuhrman who suggested, "hey, if you can't afford many books don't give me any more money, just check youtube", because he had a PBS lecture that could be found there. And then I'd have to say it was probably youtube (an interesting author! ) "who" suggested other whole food lectures that led me to where I am now. So, anyway, small world. I'm probably whole-foods-plant-based because of the very author who's recommending your book, so that's a little odd maybe, but cool.

Kathryn, I missed an early walk with HRH because I was in the middle of something, then when I was freed up he was busy. I told him we need to plan! Do you remember where you put your cane or have you lost it? :)

blessed, thanks! I'm pleased. Dstepson thinks it's a hoot that his Dad still has any better numbers than me. I told dstepson - hey, embrace your heritage! It must be pretty good! My ddad's blood draws were small, just measured in milliliters. So maybe I shouldn't have said they were like donating. It wasn't done for any testing is what I meant. I loved hearing about your walks and seeing nature. We can't let Nancy get ahead of us on the nature walks! (smile - oops, she's been ahead a long time, hasn't she?)

Harriet: one cane is right by the bed should I need it and the other is in the front hall with the umbrellas and walking sticks. I figure if I know where they are, I won't need them. That's why we've hung onto the wheelchair as well! Ironically, the wheelchair is stored in the summer between the treadmill and the wall. In the winter my bike is there and wheelchair is in the parking spot with dh's bike.

Eating lower calorie gets easier as the days go on. Getting water in still isn't easy but I'm doing better. Weight is coming down, energy level is improving.

Still eating low carbs, but am not lossing as much as I think I should for working this hard. I have been eating dairy as in cream, cheese and butter. In the past dairy has been a problem for me so starting tomorrow I will be cutting back. And due to my migraine I have been slow to add exercise.

What I want to do and what I can do don't always add up. And it's hard to motivated myself to go to the gym in 110* heat. The glare of the sun can directly effect my migraines. I can no longer attend concerts because of the laser shows. They induce a migraine before I can leave the show.

However I did really well two summers ago with just a minimum of exercise and very little dairy. It was low carbs, no sugar and limited dairy so I'm just gonna adjust everything again.

I am helping my friend set up her classroom in the morning and part of the afternoon. When I get home I want to make my oopsis bread which is made of eggs, cream cheese and spices. The egg whites or whipped and then the other ingredients are mixed in. I can make six mounds with it and once they are done they will take the place of bread.

I can toast it and then use it for morning toast of for sandwiches. I like it so that helps.

Need to put my four bottles of water in the fridge. Am also cutting way down on soda and only using stevia. I don't drink much soda as it is so that won't be too hard.

A group of my friends have made a book club and meet once a week to support each other as they change their way of eating. Right now they are reading a book on emotionally eating... I don't know the title yet. I love the girls but they talk a big talk and then continue to eat their normal way... I don't mean to judge because some are good friends but most are40-60 lbs over weight and more than a few are 100lbs.

I see the pictures they post on our FB page and shake my head. It hurts to see them do this to themselves because I don't see much success within the group.

Anyway they want me to join in so I am watching for a while and then will decide. Am also thinking about doing another dietbet, but these migraine and the meds I have to take makes me a bit shy to do it at the moment.

Rosie: thanks for mentioning that bread recipe! I'm going to give it a try once I get some cream cheese in the house. It looks like even I could make it, although I only have one bowl for my mixer so am not sure how I'll mix egg whites, not sure my wrist is strong enough to beat them enough.

Another pound is off this morning but I won't count it until I see it two days in a row. In the meantime, it serves as motivation to keep at this.

I know it won't happen but if this level of loss kept up, I'd be at goal by Christmas. At this point, my realistic goal is to be halfway from my high water mark to my goal weight by my birthday in September. I have 10 pounds to go to that goal and about 8 weeks to make it, so that should be doable despite the travel in August. I maintained or had a small loss during our long trip to Newfoundland last time I was actively doing this eating plan while traveling. As well, I didn't gain during our 3 weeks away this past spring. The plus of car travel is that it limits the snacking and I can control what I do snack on by only having nuts, veggies and fruit in the car to snack on. My main issue is resisting the carbs at the hotel breakfasts. I may just end up buying greek yogurt in small cups in order to get the protein at cheaper hotels where there isn't eggs and bacon/sausage. The regular yogurt in hotel breakfast buffets is usually high in sugars and not worth the calories for the amount of protein I get.

This trip I'll have access to decent grocery stores so can buy along the way. In parts of rural Eastern Canada the grocery stores are fine if you are buying food to prepare at home but they have a very limited amount of prepared salads or fruit so buying a lunch for myself each day was sometimes difficult. I try to buy lunch food fresh each day because hotel fridges tend to freeze things. Even when going to Pembroke and taking veggies for my lunch in the car on the way home the next day, I often couldn't eat my lunch because the water the veggies were packed in had frozen solid.

I understand about the heat and migraines - 110 is very hot - hope it cools a bit d rose! Most people don't understand how disabling it is to have migraines as one can't plan things or have to cancel plans with others.
I can understand why you are choosing wait and see re book club

hi d kathryn cheering you on as you work on your journey. I enjoy reading your posts

hi d nancy great job on walk!

I don't feel like prepping food but I think it would be a good idea.
