Health and Fitness, January, 2018

Postby Harriet » Sun Dec 31, 2017 10:35 pm

Welcome! We chat here about all aspects of health, with an eye to building strength for the calling of Homemaker. Taking care of ourselves is vital, and it also means a better chance at taking care of those around us. We hope you will join us.

What goal did you meet in 2017 (or part of it), for which you deserve a pat on the back!?
Did you learn something that you want to implement in 2018?
Is there a calendar event in 2018 that inspires you?
Is your record-keeping working for you? Do you see a tweak that would help?
Did you have a try, try again moment? ;)

Even though we can absolutely make a resolution ANY time (such as the first of ANY month), this may be a good time. Do you have a health and fitness resolution for 2018?

I'm hoping to get into a morning habit of taking all joints through their whole range of movement.
Attention to evening bed times is also a plan.
The days I'm out and about walking, the afternoon 3k walk does not have the same priority.
These are not so much resolutions, but an aim to develop better habits.
I probably also have a need for daily back strengthening exercises. My seated posture is often slightly off, and that is a real cause for decay.
Just begin.

After six months of stress eating, it’s time to get back to healthy foods and taking care of me. I am more than ready.

I totally fell off the wagon with the no sugar thing. However, over the week of Christmas I did lose a pound!

So I have the same goal for this year and to lose more weight. I sure have been more active the end of 2017 and I'd like to keep that up too. Sunday was another bike ride and we did more of the inner streets back and forth and I was able to kick it up a gear. Sure gets my heart rate up like they want. I want to keep that up too.

Also keep up our diet changes and do better with that. We have our work cut out for us.

Good luck to everybody!

This made me THINK. Posted by me on Jan 19 of last year:

Today I hit my low 2016 weight again, not seen since Dec 21. It took these 19 days after the holidays were over, then, to get me back to it. I think that's an interesting story about the holidays in a nutshell for me. I had been on a downward trend all the calendar year until Dec 21 and then a big blow to take, over less than 10 days. Time necessary to bounce back was greater than the time it took to ... fluctuate. ;)

The holidays really do a number on me. Every year I say "not again" and every year, oh yes it does happen! Today was my first truly wise eating day since about that same Dec 21 date as last year. Sigh. There's just so much little finger sweets and so much stress to drive me to them I guess. But also not enough time to fill up with better choices instead and be calm and intentional. So, I'll compete with my last-year-self to get to the calendar goal of January 19, then, back to my low weight of 2017, and I bet I'll feel better, too. About 3 or 3.5 pounds to shed, and I'm thinking most of it is just "retention", so not impossible.

I'd like to work on arms toning/slimming in 2018 - by my birthday in May I'd like to feel more confident in short and cap sleeves. So maybe I'll buy myself a top or something for my bday for a calendar goal, and wear it this summer.

Also on my birthday it'll be 2 years vegetarian for me, and I'd like to go out to eat at the same Mexican restaurant dd19's taken me to for the last two bdays and have the same meal. That will be fun.

Might ask HRH about Valentine's Day. If he had a plan for that, we could goal together toward it. He's logging meals for 2018 because I did so well with it in 2017. Urologist is planning to release him - says stretch it out to a year between visits this time and then quit, so he's going to run out of specialists in 2018 we hope. :)

Lynlee, I am so with you on the sleep routine. Looking at the clock now!

Last night lights off was 12. Hoping to bring it forward from there, but counting that as a good beginning.

I put on a youtube yoga lesson this morning i / l doing full range joint mobility.

You can do it Harriet. Festive season eats is hard when its all out there.
I lost weight at Christmas as I don't eat many of the choices, and it seems there was less on my plate than at home. Also I did a lot of walking some days.
At home I mostly still do one pot cooking for the evening meal, with heaps of veg, 1/3 cup basmati rice cooked through, and whatever protein. Its like a risotto without all the work, care and attention.
I was missing the rice, and heaps of veg variety.
Away - I supply my own bfst and lunch most days, so that was the same as at home. Though I did just have freedom boxed cereal - active balance, without any extras beyond goat yoghurt and milk.
Just begin.

I’m down 1.4 lbs today but bet it’s just water. With just going back to no sugar, dairy and white stuff will surely effect my normal weight. As soon as I’m over this sinus thing I will be adding back my exersize. Right now air quality is terrible.... worst it’s been for a long time and I am very sensitive to it.

Join another diet bet and need to loose at least 6 lbs by Jan 29th which is doable. Hope to be down 20 lbs by May first which is right around my birthday, but for now I’m just focusing on my first 5lbs and stay focused on my eating plan. This time I’ve decided to add a small amount of daily fruit and eliminating cheese. We’ll see what happens.

Need to find my Fitbit, charge it and start wearing it... I have that written down as a goal in my daily planner. Working on one day and one step at a time. Also need to find my grafting paper. I like to chart my weight. It’s one thing that always keeps me motivated.

Went to the Y with dfriend M. I did 15 min on treadmill, then a round of machines, then some stretching. A little less than an hour and we'll go again on Thursday.

Why was I dreading it so much?
