Health and Fitness, May 2009

Postby Harriet » Wed Apr 29, 2009 6:31 pm

Welcome!

In this thread we chat about keeping ourselves strong and capable as we pursue our calling as homemakers. Our family members may need to lean on us, and we may need to lean on them. Proactive medical answers, sensible consumption of healthy food and water, getting enough rest, and getting enough activity, too - these are all part of our plans! Helping each member of our households work in all their healthy habits is priceless!

Not so good...

Jan. 5 -- 160
Feb. 2 -- 159.5
Mar. 2 -- 156
April 6 -- 155
May 1 -- 156
Exercise has been MUCH, MUCH better during April, but I've slacked off over the past week, and I've also snacked waaay, waaay too much. I must STOP BUYING the Frosted Mini Wheats. I've really developed a sort of unhealthy addiction to them.
Tomorrow is another day.

My blood sugar is the highest it's been in a long time
pizza night, plus stress, etc.
I took two walks earlier today;
the weather was so awesome
but did not get to the gardening
so that's going on the list for tomorrow.

157 here. I've been hanging around here for a long time now.

I got way lower when we moved in, it inched up and I never got it back down. Was concerned about what the scale would say when I got home from my trip to the kids, but it was ok. The ladies tea we went to was a dessert buffet, yikes!

Trying to do some sort of exercise every day. Today was the gardening, but I suspect aerobics is way better for weight loss., Anyway, seriously working on stamina here also. Just gotta keep at it.

Hi to lucylee, Nancy and Harmony. Glad to hear about all the smart exercising.

Tough to be very healthy while at hospital with my mom, supposedly sleeping in that teeter-totter they call a recliner, but I'm walking "rounds" of circling hallway with good posture when I get the chance, doing back stretch in the room even though it seems to invite a knock at the door as soon as I try to get it in! Trying to eat the sensible choices from the tray and then supplement with salad from cafeteria there. Was on top of my water consumption but then it got away from me somehow, probably drinking that hospital coffee trying to stay awake. At one point, I got pretty sleep-deprived and was not making good personal decisions. Better now.

On morning of the 4th I had dropped that one last April half-pound plus the first May half-pound.
So, progress on mini goals toward 8 pound loss by June:
February 2 pounds (reached March 12)
March 2 pounds (reached April 1)
April 2 pounds (reached May 4)
May 2 pounds (one-quarter of the way there)

Also, of all things, fighting a poison ivy rash that first showed up on skin at hospital (?)and which I didn't recognize at first, didn't have dh to help identify or help with good decision making. Sigh.

(((Harriet)))

Some of the larger pants don't fit so well
but I'm not complaining because I was too thin before
and did not look well.

I'm getting compliments these days
that I look better love that!

Walking and gardening have been my exercise.
Gardening is planting between showers.

Walking did with hubby and grands yesterday ;
today with hubby for part of my walk finished
the rest of it myself.

Editing to add mowed the backyard for my exercise on Thursday.

How wonderful that you rae able to hear some compliments, Nancy. I know you deserve them.

For anyone who is interested, a 1-page article about T-Tapp's health benefits in the People magazine that went on sale May 22. I believe they are saying it is the "June 1" issue. I know it is on page 86, anyway. I will find a copy if I can - I'm "homesick" for more T-Tapp than just some stretching. Also on "Good Morning America" at 8:15 Tuesday morning - at this link under "weight loss success - meet three women" (Of course, Heather who lost using T-Tapp is last, but well spoken, and each woman's tips are interesting).

It looks like I only need to lose 3/4 pound to meet my June 1 goal right now.

Nancy...

I'm joining you in regaining my health. Its my #1 priority this summer. I'm feeling so much better than during the past 2 years. Might have something to do with my sleeping and anti-grouch meds. Headache preventive meds (heavy duty anti-depressants) added 30 lbs before I swore them off. Spent the past year just figuring out how to feel "normal". Think I'm almost there so I'm focusing on good eats and exercise.

Keep up the good work, I know its hard.
Live boldly, take risk, no regrets...Jillian Michaels
