Art, Craft and Needlework, May, 2011

Postby Harriet » Sun May 01, 2011 12:46 pm

What is making your eyes light up this month? What's the interesting plan rattling around in your head when you daydream? We know it's there. Creativity makes the world go 'round! Indulge yours today!

Reports from April's thread :

LisaB is using traditional African fabric to make an anniversary quilt and is making up a pattern in muslin first to be sure the skirt she wants to make will fit well.
Nancy completed her green granny-square throw and is knitting now.
Both Nancy's dgds are crocheting!
helia's dd is learning charcoal drawing.
SuzLew is making a quilt for her dd out of 19 different skull fabrics!
bittersweet is mending kittycat pads for the shelter.
Harriet made the binding and sleeve for the houses quilt but presented it, unfinished  to WonderBoy, and bought the border fabric for the new baby's quilt.

Okay, finally, here is the Friendly Neighbors quilt, begun for WonderBoy before my mother got so sick, and given for his 3rd birthday, plus a closeup of the architechture problem-block(before quilting and with too much flash) about which you all had to listen for weeks, all fixed. It's window-tops are the only applique in the quilt; every other curve is curved piecing.

The neighbors are, from top left : frogs, Elmo and Grover, CareBears, cats, giraffes, robots, Bugs and Daffy, Charlie and Sally Brown, Snoopy, fox and owl, snowmen, horse and cowboy, elephants, chickens, Pooh and Tigger.

Love those pics. Harriet thanks for sharing!

Yesterday dgson started crocheting a chain he wanted to do what every one else was doing!
#2 dgd and I helped him with that.

Dgson wants to make a camo hat.
#1 dgd wants to learn to make a granny square.
So putting this down as goals.

Beautiful Harriet. It is a wonderful work of art. I hadn't expected to see to all the inhabitants in the windows. Wow for making such a special treasure.
Just begin.

Oh my goodness, Harriet, that is so adorable. I was surprised by the characters in the windows, too. It doesn't look like the houses & sky & grass are actually set into squares, but more like the way a crazy quilt is put together. You sure are talented! Is it completely finished now?
