Art, Craft and Needlework, May, 2015

Postby Harriet » Fri May 01, 2015 12:58 pm

What are you doing lately to insure your brain function and youthful thinking through creativity? (One of the things we talked about last month ; problem solving in creativity is VERY healthy for our brains!)

And speaking of last month, check out Elizabeth's photo near end of month!

In April... ...

Harmony created an acid-free photo album of her grandchildren's pictures.
Twins' Mom added more of her hand made cards to her online group's site.
For Nancy it was "sleeve month" and she completed sleeves on two sweaters.
BookSaver finished more preschooler bags and considered new garment techniques.
Elizabeth used her work-commute time wisely for a beautiful doll dress.
Harriet preserved memories of her dd's prom by pressing corsage petals, greenery.

I just ran into a pretty pattern for oven mitts.

Those fabrics are totally saying, "Summer is almost here!" :)

Thank you, BookSaver, those potholder patterns are cute. I bookmarked in favorites so I could find it later to try them out.

Lately I have not been inspired to do much extra housekeeping - just keeping up with the basics. This past week I have spent most of my free time sewing. I still have dgs13-C's quilt to finish, but after some roadblocks and the holidays and not feeling well the beginning of the year I needed to get back to it. But I wanted to start with a quick project so I found an idea at Missouri Star Quilt Co. I had a jelly roll, but wasn't so keen on the pattern/colors, so I decided I hadn't much to lose. I followed the directions and added white sashing and white borders; today I finished the quilt top. It is 40 1/2" by 58" and still needs batting, backing, quilted and binding. It's not perfect, only the second project I've done, but dh likes it! :)

I had to add the last picture separately here:

Beautiful, Sunny! What wonderful colors; the white panels really show off the details nicely!

Well that was a fun trip through some photos! Clear enough for your own tutorial, Sunny. The colors "pop" when the diagonal shapes emerge. I can see why dh likes it. Really pleased for you that you had some time for quiltmaking.

BookSaver's oven mitt tutorial find is really good, too. Ooooohh, ruffles.

Thank you Twins' and Harriet. I really learned a lot with this project, especially how to ease those points in.

Nancy, your blanket sounds pretty; I hope you post a picture when you are finished so we can see, too.
