December cards 2012

Postby BookSaver » Sat Dec 01, 2012 12:00 pm

As the calendar fills up with end-of-the-year activities, I rely even more on the card box to keep household chores running smoothly.

Blessedw3 and Nancy, you're both doing good work!

Postby Nancy » Sat Dec 01, 2012 1:32 pm

Today is a basket ball tournament and light parade at dusk, they are decorating the church for the holidays too. I'll not be able to make it to every thing so I"m picking and choosing my actives.

Working on the daily things now.
Hand wash / presoaking now first couple of shirts done.
Charging phone.

Harriet requested that I post here about my cue cards, mentioned how they must be cute, but they're not cute, and I don't keep them inside my file.

The reason they're called "cue cards" is because according to the book on emotional eating, "Runaway Eating," there are certain "cues" which set a person off, so they snack too much, eat too much sugar, or binge and can't stop themselves.

So you ask yourself in a journal:
1- My cue was-
2- My thought myth was-
3- My physical responses were-
4- My feelings were-
5- My consequences:
A. Positive were OR
B. Negative were.....

Then there are :Validation cards. Such as:
I'm artistic.
I'm caring.
I'm proactive....
and you list all the positive traits in yourself, so you're building yourself up rather than being negatively tearing yourself down, which can lead to binge eating.

Then there are cards for "Alternative Behaviors", which you'll do instead of binge eating:
- Listen to music and do mat exercises at the same time
- Listen to a guided imagery CD.
- Watch a Hallmark movie.
- Walk or ride my exercise bike.
- Do calligraphy or make cards and bookmarks.
- Call a Dfriend.
- Write a letter.

I have several 4 x 6" cards written on 6 and they, too, could be incorporated into a file box or control journal, too. I keep mine with me on the end table where I journal out my thoughts. This post also could be listed at the Health forum, too.
Touch the earth, love the earth, her plains, her valleys, her seas. Rest your soul in her solitary places. ~Henry Beston

LOL, Ivy, no I said they sounded "bright", meaning intelligent. Thanks for sharing. Love the idea of cards suggesting alternative behaviors. I've often felt that creativity can take the place of food for me. But since my creativity is usually quiltmaking, it can't be spur-of-the-moment. It's not easy to just grab some quiltmaking project, which takes planning and a big chunk of time. I can see where having small creative projects (like the calligraphy, cards, bookmarks you mentioned) that are easy to access for alternative behavior would be a very healthy thing when you find yourself picking up a snack you don't need. BookSaver mentioned that type of doodling called Zentangle, which would be a great quick-to-grab alternative behavior. Yes, it's kind of mindless I guess, but when you finish a piece it could be a card-front or bookmark.

I can't find time for my regular cards not even dinner as I am still working to get ready for the floor sanders for tomorrow. Christmas shopping sent me behind as well.

Blessed you might want to keep track of noticeable episodes your hubby has for info. in a journal of file, to share with the dr. at some point and to refer back in a bit like a mo. 6 mo. 1 yr. to see how things are going getting worse or better. Tracking important things seems to help.

I discovered my Dec. cards were nothing but quotes! LOL!
Oh well guess that works with maintenance.
Check movies x
Leaves have all been raked except the ones that have blown around.

Nobody even noticed the mags. are gone here from the pile yea! Before that I just keep the two most recent ones.
