The Microwave

Ever burn a bag of popcorn in yours? The smell can linger for weeks. Here's a tip that will not only help you clean the microwave, but get rid of any odors it may harbor. To clean your microwave oven, mix 2 Tablespoons of vinegar and 2 cups of water in a 4 cup glass microwave safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH for two to three minutes. Carefully remove the bowl (liquid will be very HOT) and wipe the microwave with paper towels. Remember to wipe the top of the inside of the microwave, too, to get rid of food splatters that you may not see. Repeat as necessary. The steam from the liquid helps soften the dried on food while at the same time getting rid of icky odors.

Child Helpers

Have agile young children dust under the fridge, stove, and china hutch. They like to help clear the table and put the silverware in the dishwasher. They will also put away unbreakable kid dishes on a low shelf. They can help clean the tub, sink and sweep with the kiddie broom inside and out.

Baseboards

Baseboards can be a backbreaking job, but with proper, and frequent maintenance, you can limit the times you have to get down on your hands and knees to once or twice per year.

First, vacuum them with the small brush attachment. If it is still dirty, then this is where you must get down and do the tough work. I spray with a cleaner like Formula 409. Don't over-wet, though, or you can damage your drywall. Let sit for a few minutes. Then I use a Magic Eraser and a toothbrush to get in the hard to reach crevices. Don't scrub too vigorously or you can damage the paint. Let dry. Beautiful, huh? Yep, but HARD work.

Here's a VERY IMPORTANT last step that can keep your baseboards clean longer with only a light dusting. Fabric softener sheets! It really works! After the baseboards are dry, rub a fabric softener sheet along them. The dirt, dust, and pet hair are repelled from the surfaces. Oh, and the fabric softener sheets also works on window blinds.

Cleans soap scum off showers, bathtubs, and sinks

This is to use for bathroom cleaning to clean soap scum off of showers, bathtubs, and sinks.

12 oz. vinegar
12 oz. blue Dawn dish soap

Heat the vinegar in the microwave until hot. Pour into a squirt bottle. Add the Dawn and shake. Spray on surfaces. It can be left on overnight for very grimy stubborn scum. Scrub and rinse.

A little goes a LONG way, so use sparingly or you will be rinsing bubbles for what seems like forever.

Prepare yourself for a really strong vinegar scent-- a good thing, though, if there are smokers in the home as vinegar tends to get rid of stubborn smoke smells.

Cleaning Pillows.

I was taking a few minutes to check FB and found this tip from one of my "likes".
http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/201 ... llows.html
It uses ingredients most would have in our stock of cleaning items: hot water, 1 c laundry detergent, 1 c powdered dishwasher detergent, 1 c chlorine bleach (or non-chlorine bleach-if necessary) and 1/2 c borax. **see webpage for complete instructions. This would clean and disinfect pillows.

I've found this website interesting with lots of good ideas.
