2013 Focus - Office/Other Room - 9/9/13 - Fourth Round

Postby Harriet » Sun Jan 20, 2013 4:21 pm

Here are Indiana's steps to a clean Office/Other Room, from January 25, 2009

As we continue to maintain our homes, the key is maintaining our homes through out the year instead of a full deep cleaning once or twice a year.

Adjust the rooms to fit your home.

Not all the things listed need to be done this round. Some may be done daily, weekly, monthly, every 3 or 6 months or yearly. I have marked possible times for doing the chore. Look at each area with fresh eyes to see what should be done this round.

As you do each room dust, vacuum, wash, wipe, wax, sweep, mop, detail, straighten, and declutter any surfaces that need to be done.

Office/Other room

Ceiling and corners - quarterly
Ceiling light - quarterly
Walls - quarterly
Doors and hardware – weekly (finger prints), quarterly
Door and floor trim - quarterly
Light switch - weekly
Dust lights - weekly
Dust pictures - weekly
Dust decorations – weekly
Wash decorations – quarterly if needed
Cold/hot air vents - quarterly
Window – quarterly if needed
Window treatments - annual
Dust furniture - weekly
Closet -quarterly
Floor – weekly
Throw rugs – weekly if needed
Wipe mirrors – weekly
Drawers, cupboards, and shelves – quarterly if needed
Trash - weekly
Manage clutter - daily
Equipment (computers, sewing machines, etc.) dust, clean - weekly
Sort mail - daily
Sort through in-boxes: pay bills, file paid bills and paperwork - weekly
Repairs – either repair or put on a list for the future
Buy – replacements or something new if needed
Declutter – closets (next focus area) and post accomplishments in Harriet’s declutter thread. This is a great opportunity and will make maintaining the closets easier.

Remember not all the things listed need to be done this round. Some may be done daily, weekly, monthly, every 3 or 6 months or yearly. Use the list as a guide.

Office area for me. I have done some vacuuming, some dusting, but so many cubbies and niches, so not all done. Reassessing the lighting here and putting a clamp-on desk lamp ( the kind with an elbow bend) above my desk space, clamped onto the hutch, has been very helpful. I have a short list of "to buy" for this area on my next trip to a likely store - small storage containers.

Although I may start looking around for "other" :D , certainly my office area continues to need attention. Time for a good vacuuming. Need to get down on hands and knees and get up under the desk to chase some dust bunnies.

How about you? Are you in "other" this week or dealing with that desk?

Ah, my office ... with no door so it's always open to view and, unfortunately, it's always a mess!

My doorway beside my office space has to stay open so that I can hear my ddad and be available. It's actually not terribly on view unless a visitor walks down the hall, but it doesn't take much to get a pretty good visual on it! Anyone who must be directed to the other bathroom (much more likely, now that my ddad needs the front bathroom so much) comes face to face with it.

I've done some work with the clutter over the last week, but as I stand back and look, not enough.

It's time to Focus on the office again. At this point, anything will help!

I worked on my creativity room
Today and got some things organized and
Space in the middle of the room cleared out
So I could vacume the traffic area.

I used my made-bed surface for last week's declutter of my desk surface. Two new files made - large file for estate work, smaller file for 2013-14 school year for dd. Ink cartridges replaced in printer. At Tar-jay, in their dollar aisles, found a pack of 3 designed file folders with helpful large label spaces for $1. I like designed ones because I zero-in on the contents fast and they look good in my standing file rack to the right on my desk.

Then, lots of dusting of course. Better lightbulb for the gooseneck lamp. I'm dismayed to see that there's a crack in one of my matching 3-drawer Sterilite 8x11s. Sigh.
