2014 FOCUS - Closets - 7/7/14 - Third Round

Postby Harriet » Mon Feb 03, 2014 7:55 am

Here are Indiana's steps to a clean Closet, from February 2, 2009

As we continue to maintain our homes, the key is maintaining our homes through out the year instead of a full deep cleaning once or twice a year.

Adjust the rooms to fit your home.

Not all the things listed need to be done this round. Some may be done daily, weekly, monthly, every 3 or 6 months or yearly. I have marked possible times for doing the chore. Look at each area with fresh eyes to see what should be done this round.

As you do each room dust, vacuum, wash, wipe, wax, sweep, mop, detail, straighten, and declutter any surfaces that need to be done.

Closets

Ceiling and corners - quarterly
Ceiling light - quarterly
Walls - quarterly
Doors and hardware – weekly (finger prints), quarterly
Door and floor trim - quarterly
Light switch - weekly
Dust lights - weekly
Floor – weekly
Wipe mirrors – weekly
Drawers, cupboards, and shelves – quarterly if needed
Manage clutter - daily
Repairs – either repair or put on a list for the future
Buy – replacements or something new if needed
Declutter – laundry (next focus area) and post accomplishments in Harriet’s declutter thread. This is a great opportunity and will make maintaining the closets easier.

Remember not all the things listed need to be done this round. Some may be done daily, weekly, monthly, every 3 or 6 months or yearly. Use the list as a guide.

This is my area for never getting the decluttering done well enough to have easy cleaning. Gotta make things hard on myself! Thankfully, the Christmas storage area was cleaned at the first of the year. I was impressed with lucylee discussing her clothes-organizing in her closet. She's using the hangars-turned-around method of proving to herself what she does NOT wear.

LOL -- and then, even after I PROVED it, I still couldn't discard some things. Hopeless.
But I do feel better about my focus cleaning this week. Maybe I can keep up with y'all again next week!!!
Tomorrow is another day.

Second round through the closets - are you still in closets that have the most traffic and change, or can you move on to some corners you don't see very often?

Harriet, you are so good to keep us all on track with the focus weeks.

It's time to pack away the heavy winter sweaters and scarves. (At least, I sure hope I won't need to wear any of them again for several months!)

My clothes closet and the coat closet both need to be cleaned before I can do the winter-to-summer switch.

Third round for closets.
My own closets cannot be cleaned because they contain Too Much Stuff!
Must declutter, declutter, declutter, declutter.

Next week's FOCUS will be on the laundry area. My laundry area is not in bad shape, so I'll try to borrow time from that to accomplish more in the closets.
Did I mention that I need to declutter?
:)
