Here are Indiana's steps to a well-maintained Outdoors, from February 24, 2009

As we continue to maintain our homes, the key is maintaining our homes through out the year instead of a full deep cleaning once or twice a year.

Adjust the outdoors to fit your home.

Not all the things listed need to be done this round. Some may be done daily, weekly, monthly, every 3 or 6 months or yearly. Look at each area with fresh eyes to see what should be done this round.

Outdoors

As you do outside wash, rake, trim, pull, pick up and tidy outdoors.

Outdoors

Trash
Branches -
Weeds
Bushes
Trees
Fertilize
Plant
Grass seed
Mail box
Lights
Edge
Trim
Catalogs
Planning
Repairs – either repair or put on a list for the future
Buy – replacements or something new if needed
Declutter – kitchen (next focus area) and post accomplishments in Harriet’s declutter thread. This is a great opportunity and will make maintaining the closets easier.

Remember not all the things listed need to be done this round. Some may be done daily, weekly, monthly, every 3 or 6 months or yearly. Use the list as a guide.

I'm glad to see "planning" on this list, since that's about all I can do for the outdoors this week.

I can see some trash that needs to be picked up in the yard, but it's all buried under several inches of ice! Our temps are supposed to stay below freezing for at least another full week.

Therefore, this week I'm daydreaming about outdoor picnics this summer ... and starting to plan for replacing the roof, and painting the front porch if not the whole house.

DH blew leaves and small branches and stems off of trees during Outdoor week, from the garage and garage slab before they delivered our new washer/dryer. He's always getting wood off the wood pile and covering up the wood, too, feeding the bird feeder birds, and other things outdoors, too. I stayed in and didn't do anything outdoors.

Waiting for a non-stormy day to do outdoor chores.

I put on SPF-50 this morning and helped DH & his buddy stack firewood in the warm morning sunshine.

DH fed the birds, watered plants & put water in the bird bath. The birds had splashed almost all of it out.

Tomorrow, DH will probably mow.

What do you see as you approach your home? Any obvious straightening or surface-cleaning you could accomplish? Are you enjoying your yard? What about light fixtures outdoors that are not part of your porch week? At my house, they are a prime spot for cobwebs, along with windows!
