FOCUS - Laundry - 2/06/12 - First Round

Postby Indiana » Sun Feb 08, 2009 6:59 pm

Please note there is a new format for this thread from last year.

As we continue to maintain our homes, the key is maintaining our homes through out the year instead of a full deep cleaning once or twice a year.

Adjust the rooms to fit your home.

Not all the things listed need to be done this round. Some may be done daily, weekly, monthly, every 3 or 6 months or yearly. I have marked possible times for doing the chore. Look at each area with fresh eyes to see what should be done this round.

As you do each room dust, vacuum, wash, wipe, wax, sweep, mop, detail, straighten, and declutter any surfaces that need to be done.

Laundry

  • Ceiling and corners - quarterly
  • Ceiling light - quarterly
  • Walls - quarterly
  • Doors and hardware – weekly (finger prints), quarterly
  • Door and floor trim - quarterly
  • Light switch - weekly
  • Dust lights - weekly
  • Dust pictures - weekly
  • Dust decorations – weekly
  • Wash decorations – quarterly if needed
  • Cold/hot air vents - quarterly
  • Window – quarterly if needed
  • Window treatments - annual
  • Dust furniture - weekly
  • Closet -quarterly
  • Floor – weekly
  • Throw rugs – weekly if needed
  • Wipe mirrors – weekly
  • Drawers, cupboards, and shelves – quarterly if needed
  • Washer
  • Dryer
  • Lint hose/pipe
  • Hoses
  • Lint trap
  • Trash - weekly
  • Manage clutter - daily
  • Repairs – either repair or put on a list for the future
  • Buy – replacements or something new if needed
  • Declutter – storage (next focus area) and post accomplishments in Harriet’s declutter thread. This is a great opportunity and will make maintaining the closets easier.

Remember not all the things listed need to be done this round. Some may be done daily, weekly, monthly, every 3 or 6 months or yearly. Use the list as a guide.

lots need to be done in dog/laundry room but I did get rid of crates, vacuumed and tossed. a bit of wipe down on walls but there is so much.

still need to to cob webs
appliances
wash floor
wash doors
wash walls
make list of repairs
having a hard time getting dh to do repairs, he is a good soul though, i mention it to him, he really means to do it and then it goes out of his mind and to be honest I don't want to nag him as he does so much.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

Seeing this makes me think I can work on some of this
later on in the week we are supposed to get some rain
and it will be good for inside stuff.

I am trying to pare down how many laundry products I store. Throwing away some products - those that combine two products into one are never satisfactory here and cause irritation. Already tossed detergent that combines a fabric softener (skin irritant, even though the products seperately are fine) and today tossing Downy fabric softener that combines Febreeze - whole family hates it, the odor is so strong. When I hung drip-dries over the tub surround, I didn't even want to go in the bathroom (peeeeeuuuu - holding nose)! So that stuff's outahere. Trying to buy and store only simple products, also trying to buy condensed products that take less per use, so that space is freed up.
If you don't believe in miracles, you're not being realistic.

Good idea Harriet. I don't use combined products either. On their own they are fine but combined I don't get the same results.

I also keep the number of products down. It is part of my back to basics.

This room is in the cool of the basement for me
with temps. pushing the 100* mark
it is appealing for me to think about working on
this zone.
