2021 - Coming ready or not.

With memories of hide and seek played in the outdoors, at night, on a farm, with a visiting family .


Its 2021.
For those with a yard, garden, property, or a balcony, courtyard or patio to take care of, here is a place to tell of your trials and trails, progress and production, or challenges and infestations.

I'm looking forward to hearing your stories of out in the elements.

Personally I'm needing less of certain weed infestations and more progress towards accessible spaces.
Any adults, children or pets hiding out there, here, would need a strenuous plucking afterwards before you let them loose indoors.

Today rain falls. Outdoor living things continue to engage in 'survival of the fittest'.

I did some mowing one day, until the battery quit, which is 45 minutes.

Some other days, and today, I'm just pulling up some of what is not wanted.
There is no shortage of that.
A little done is better than nothing done.

Some special neighbours helped me today with my 'outdoors' today.
I admit I've found the thought of tackling it intimidating.
Mr G helped with a whipper snipper, which helped me with a road into worst of the part by the house which has gone 'off' lately.
Mrs G's help began in the driveway, and was mostly in the parts most recently 'done'.
I got my boots on when I heard them begin, and went to the parts that intimidated with their velcro seeds and scrambling vines. and pretty well filled a wheely bin.
Then there was a changeover with the mowers and I began plucking seeds off my clothing.
Mrs G took a lesson on starting the electric mower. The only thing I can start, basically.

I am so grateful for their help.

That said, there is more to do 'down the back.
Battery is recharged.
Hopefully I'll attempt to take on some more before too long, and keep up with what was done today.

It's still winter here but I need to clean out the debris from my two raised beds where I have tomatoes and zinnias every year. I never got them cleaned out. Still zinnia seed heads there for birds, I put the debris over the edge at our hill and get zinnias there that have reseeded too.

Thanks for the cheer along Twins.
My mother had zinnias one year and they are a cheery, hardy plant. Love the flowers.
I hope regrowth isn't too much of a problem there.

DD visited today and it was nice to wander where it was mown.
She tried a home grown lychee. (I often leave them for the birds as there are just a few.) We spied some ripening persimmon. And odd fungus that was surprising in appearance.
I went looking for mango, but saw none again this year. Rain at the wrong time does that.

She encouraged me to come out and get into art amongst it. Draw. paint, etc,

I need to not let the weeds get so away from me again, and make some inroads into what are still wild zones.
As I said, it gets intimidating when the weeds gang up as a real foe.
I need to get to the branches hanging over the driveway too. She drove around, rather than scratching under them.

All in all, I was so glad to have the mowing done when she came, and the outside is so much more accessible for all sorts of reasons..

I mowed a section of the yard today, covered in plants that someone once had in their garden, though not in the mass that like my yard. It will be good to be able to walk easily in that space again.
There are weed trees growing around the perimeters of that space and best get them chopped down before it gets too difficult. Like some other parts. There is another section similarly affected, then I get to thick 'juicy' grass. amid troublesome tree roots so that will be a test. Helpers just avoid these areas, and its so easy to lose control of them.

Yesterday the neighbour helped with my driveway.
I pruned some branches.
Today I pruned some more of the driveway trees, and same neighbour came and helped.
I could pull down the branch for him to cut - I was finding it a struggle/impossible with the higher ones that droop weeping branches down.
I had thought to mow some more - its due, but its still waiting, and on a time line for the ease of doing it.
