A tabby is a domestic cat with a coat pattern distinguished by stripes, swirls, spots, or flecks, rather than a specific breed. It can be found in many different breeds, from domestic shorthairs to Maine Coons.

Tabby patterns come in various colours, with brown and grey tabbies being the most common.Tabby patterns span back to the ancestor of the domestic cat species, or Felis catus. The stripes of that ancestor, through generations of cats, evolved to include a variety of different patterns and markings over time. The genes that create tabby coats are dominant, which is why tabbies are so common. All tabby cats share a characteristic "M" marking on their forehead and have varying patterns, such as the Mackerel (vertical stripes), Classic (swirls), Spotted (spots), or Ticked (speckled fur). This pattern is common in many different cat breeds and can be found worldwide.

Tabby cat patterns
Mackerel tabby: Has narrow, vertical stripes that run down its sides, similar to a tiger's stripes. This is often called the "tiger" tabby.

Classic tabby: Features bold, swirling patterns on its sides, often with a "bullseye" pattern. The classic tabby is sometimes called the "blotched" tabby.

Spotted tabby: Has spots instead of stripes, which can be large or small. This pattern is thought to be a variation of the mackerel pattern.

Ticked tabby: Does not have prominent stripes or spots on its body, but the fur appears speckled due to the agouti gene. Stripes may still be visible on the face, legs, and tail.

All tabby cats have a distinct "M" shape on their foreheads, a feature that has inspired many myths and legends. The tabby pattern is a result of a common genetic trait inherited from ancestral wild cats, which provided good camouflage.

Happy Thursday, everyone!

I have a lot of CUOP to do, as I never made it back yesterday. The funeral went off as well as these things do, and the family managed to temporarily out their squabbles to one side out of respect. I also knew the priest who took the service at the crematorium, and he is a lovely, kind man. But the crematorium.is very impersonal and "artificial", and it strikes me.as being very like a conveyor belt with its one way system (you go in and the back and out at the front to the side) very aware of the next party of mourners waiting for their "turn". And I'm not a fan of that prerecorded music without any expression or feeling (done by computer ?) that they play.

Still, the weather was dry - cold (I was very glad of my which winter coat!) and sunny, which made things a lot easier. For those who asked, yes, I did get DH into his suit, although there was a little "overhang" on the trousers and he had to wear the jacket undone. Still he wore a smart white shirt that fitted and even a tie (he never wears a tie these days! ) and black shoes, so he looked smart. :D

The wake turned out to be at the golf and
country club just up the road. Easy to get to,. despite the traffic, and lots of parking, and a very nice buffet meal. Fortunately people started to leave quite early,.as we had to make an unscheduled return home, before dropping DH off at the station, as he had forgotten to bring his winter coat with him, and Leeds has snow!!! So it gave DH a chance to get changed into more comfortable clothes and put on his winter coat, before I drove him to the station.

After that I did nothing for a few hours, I was just about "peopled out" after having to make small talk for what seemed hours. But I did hang up my coat to air before I put it away later on today, and found the cover for the outside tap as we will definitely freeze tonight and may have reached freezing temperatures last night, although I haven't got up to look yet! And I did declutter and deep clean the two challenging drawers of my dressing table, and also my jewellery box, so that's a bit more done in the bedroom.

Today is church, followed by coffee and chat, and then I have a podiatrist appointment this afternoon. I also have a few errands in town to run, and this evening Waitrose should be making their weekly delivery. As we're almost certainly getting a thick frost tonight, I also need to find the windscreen protector for the car,.to avoid too much scraping tomorrow!

Hi, Kittykatt. Thank you for another fine feline start. I'm glad that the funeral and wake was drama-free. I hope that your errands go well.

I have changed Germane’s pee pads and will get some more sleep.

Glad the funeral and wake went as well as could be expected, Kitty. I hope church and then coffee were rejuvenating this morning.
Sleep well Doggedly. See you soon!
Happy errands, L Ann. I'm intrigued - is the dessert sampler for DD39 for a special occasion? I'm also planning to buy extra groceries for our church's denomination's food drive being put on during this time.

I'm here rather late, though I've been awake for 1.5 hours. I just lazed in bed and worked on a puzzle for a while. The weather is not very inspiring, very gray. Forecast doesn't think there will be rain, though.

I didn't get back here yesterday either. Dh texted me while I was at work that he had a flat tire. So, after work, I picked him up, brought him to his car which was in a parking lot a bit aways from the engineering campus (he'd had a meeting at that building earlier in the day). He used the pump in my car to pump up the tire as he suspected it was a slow leak. Then, he drove to a tire place and I followed him. After that, we stopped by a gas station to make sure my tire that was low a couple weeks ago was fine. It was. And then, dh realized he'd left his Uni parking tag in his car, so we went back to the tire place to retrieve it. Then, we went home. 15 minutes later, he left with my car to go to the 6pm talk he wanted to attend. I vegged for a bit and then warmed up leftovers for dinner + cut up and roasted some butternut squash as well. Walking did not happen. I did get a load of Mom's stuff (small blankets) washed and dried. The drip dry ones just need to be bagged up for give away when they're dry -- which I think they are now.

My first day of class yesterday: I have that group of 4 students that resemble a chatty high school clique. LOL! I'd forgotten about them. This is advanced, and they're all very smart and advanced - but I will need to channel that social energy in the classroom. Their ring leader is a young woman from Brazil, whom I like a lot and who, fortunately, likes me as well. Also, there are 2 older Chinese women who are more quiet, and I need to make sure they get equal opportunities to talk in this very socially energetic group. Each class has its own challenges -- though, honestly, my last class was pretty chill - not really challenging in this way at all. :)

Today, dh and I are going to tag-team it with my car. He has it now, but I'm heading out to the other town for my haircut at 11:30 a.m. I should be home by 1:30 pm -- jut in time to change, eat a quick little something, and then head to my trainer at 2 pm. I will either go to Kroger in person at that point OR make an order to be delivered. Window washer guy that dh hired will be here at 11 a.m. I'll also do another load of my mom's stuff and work on Memorial thank yous. Making up the guest beds is a good option too.

Good morning!

sweet dreams, Dogged ~
kitty ~ glad things went well yesterday.
L.Ann ~ celebrating with you! 🎉. Even in her 80's, dmom barely had any side effects from her radiation.
helia ~ looking back at my young extrovert days, I did tend to monopolize conversations sometimes. Good luck on refereeing the classroom.
*waving to Bama ~ trissie ~ laurlind ~ peaches!

My appointment at the supply place went well, though things are still pretty jumbled up in my head. There are so many choices! I'm going to the townhouse this afternoon with all my samples and sit in there till I've solidified all the decisions. I need to get this off my plate so I can focus on the next thing.

Ugh... it is so gloomy and gray here. The fog has barely lifted. Makes you just want to curl up in front of a fireplace and read all day. BUT - no, no, no! Get up! Morning SOP done. Now to MAKE myself go to the gym. I know I'll feel better releasing some of that energy.

Morning all. Maybe it helped a little.. I slept till almost 6. It's fine but I lose all my Morning relaxation time. I got up.made coffee. Poured a bath . Now I should get up and brush my hair and do a couple things. 45 minutes till I leave... of course that is unlike the other girls. One has had issues this week with not waking up till she is supposed to leave.. I would not know how to do that.

I did ok yesterday I guess. I fixed my vacuum thankfully. Vacuum everywhere. Shopping. Got mom home again. Kitchen clean. My entry is still a disaster mostly cause of stuff that doesn't have a home yet.

Gonna finish getting ready for the day and see what I get to for 45 minutes.

Lann that is great news.

That does sound like a different style service kittykat but I'm glad it was successful.

Ohh that makes a complicated day sharing a vehicle helian. Hopefully quick fix and you can get his back.

That's a lot of decisions at once smile. I bet all the places will be beautiful.
