Soooooo VERY HAPPY to be posting here again.

My stress level is reduced, and my successful efforts are increased by being consistent in doing healthy habits.

My recent discovery is what happens to my body when I eat organic sweet potato. It was easily observed because I tend to eat the same 30-40 foods. Just in case I was wrong I test eating sweet potato again the next day. BOOM! I recently harvested sweet potatoes and let them cure a couple of weeks. I baked a sweet potato and ate 100g (about half cup) with 9g of butter. WHOA! The response from my gut within an hour of eating this was surprising to say the least. My gut responded as if sweet potato was an enemy and promptly evicted it out of my body. (IYKWIM)

I wonder what could cause this new reaction to sweet potatoes. I have been growing organic sweet potatoes for over 3 years in a very controlled organic environment. I am confident no chemicals are the cause. It tis a mystery.

Still waiting on insurance approval for my meds. It's been bungled. Doc said he didn't get the notification from pharmacy so didn't send until last Monday. I looked at insurance site on Friday afternoon and it says now it's gone back to doc for more info. So I sent him an email with a screenshot. Frustrated in this process.

Tracking and learning how my body reacts to various changes and challenges is never ending.

Last week I had a 3 lb jump on the scales from eating Chicken Massaman Curry, rice and a spring roll from a nice Thai restaurant. When I put what I ate in Cronometer it was 1019 calories. That is all I ate that day. After 3 days the 3lb weight gain went away and I was back to my normal weight. With that information I have a choice to make. Will I eat that meal at that restaurant again?

Tomorrow we are going to have lunch with some DFriends at a Mexican restaurant. I have knowledge what I can order there without having weight gain & a 3 day negative effect on my body. I absolutely love Caldo De Pollo (Mexican Chicken Soup) and it comes in a huge bowl that feels impossible to eat it all. But somehow by the end of the meal I manage to enjoy every bite. Pleasure without experiencing negative effects is a perfect combination IMHO.

I am on track to meet my 4 lb weight lose goal this month. I have lost 1.8 so far. Slow and steady.

LadyM, it seems to me you would be getting your choline, yes. In trying to remember my Cronometer days of recording (I've got to get back to that), I believe the days when I had a lot of greens it would be higher, like for instance broccoli. Also, I was taught that soy products in your diet, such as the tofu I like, are very good for getting choline into the meals. That's just because soybeans are one of the many beans that have good choline level, not because it is so special, necessarily - just a reason for soy products' variety to be appreciated. Limas, I think I remember, are actually even better. A professor used to call a lima (and other) bean chili he liked, into which he chopped collard greens, a "choline chili", lol. A shame you suddenly have a reason not to eat sweet potatoes (so sorry about feeling sick!), because we get a choline boost from those through betaine, which sounds weird but does count.

Scale jumps from restaurants - I once had an episode of visual swelling of my fingers within the hour after we had eaten at a new-to-us Asian restaurant. Body felt uncomfortable. HRH suspected they had used MSG (which made the inspector in him wince - menu said they didn't) and maybe additional salt that was all just too much. Obviously, we didn't eat there again. I do not believe I'm classically allergic to MSG as my late dsonil was, but the water or tea I had had with my meal was being stored already and definitely the weight gain didn't leave me for a day or two.

If you find a trusty restaurant, and especially if you find more than one meal there that keeps you comfortable and weight stable, that's a blessing. Enjoy that restaurant! :)

I am tired of medical stuff. I can't very well concentrate on taking good care of myself if my calendar has to be full of upcoming appts to concentrate on, now can I?. Nevertheless, not much relief from that in the foreseeable future, and reason to be grateful for both monitoring and treatment, of course. HRH is a trooper and would make a great Uber driver. Sadly, he feels he cannot eat for hours before any trip out, because without a gallbladder, he may have a potential digestive need to be at home. I respect that. So, we plan, plan.

Sodium in restaurant and prepared food. My weight went up after I had, on Friday, lunch out with (gasp) fries and 1/2 wrap, and then Costco stuffed peppers at dinner.

LadyM, we've found that the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail is a good choice for a small meal with a salad, or an appetizer. Served cold, more like a cold soup. Here's one recipe: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/22839 ... -mexicano/ At a restaurant it probably has more sodium and other additives. It's not hard on Dh's blood sugar.

My weight also jumped when I ate out on Sat night. I had prime rib but think it was all the salt used to cook the food. That usually happens when I eat out and why I hate to do it

I ate my yogurt for breakfast this morning. Does my tummy good but not my scales. I am finding I do better eating protein but not dairy. So as much as I enjoy it, I’ll save yogurt and cottage cheese for when I have tummy issues.

I have a twinge of a headache this morning but I’m not surprise. I intentionally stopped taking all my vitamins s to see what would happen. Now I know and started back on them again

So much wisdom and innovative ideas shared here. I love reading your experiences and what you learned from them.

I alternate between times of excelling in taking care of myself and times of letting everything but a handful of habits slide.

The handful of habits that I am hanging onto are…
*** Sleep. I average 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep a night. I just looked back on the records of the last 4 years to verify that fact.
*** Hydration. I start the day with water. Then drink 24oz of black coffee. Then 96oz of unsweetened tea. Most of the time I have 44oz diet dr pepper. I rarely drink anything past 5pm
*** Food. Simple ingredient preferred. Organic if possible. Prioritize protein. 90% good food/10% wasted calories seem like a ratio that is working for me. I don't put any type of food off limits if my body doesn't complain. I track everything past the first bite in cronometer. I rarely eat anything past 3pm.
*** Move body. Morning mile walk. Spending time outside is a priority.

I wish I had more empowering habits that I always keep. I start habits with good intentions and then *POOF* something happens and I let them slide off into neglect. I strive to do better.

Staying focused on keeping my minimum healthy habits. I want to do more but am in a phase of just hanging on. My average trend weight is continuing to go down VERY slowly. 2.3 lbs lost this month so far. The month is almost half over so I am hopeful to reach my 4lb weight loss goal for November.

LadyM… I’m on the same weight lost schedule as you. However some times I’m hungry and sometimes I’m not. Straight water is always difficult to consume in the off season. I can’t do plain ice tea because I can’t stomach the caffeine so I make decaf instead. It’s interesting cause my morning coffee doesn’t bother my stomach. I usually drink herbal tea some time during the day… but my 15 sips of water is still my go to.
