I did two walks yesterday - felt guilty I would be out all afternoon:) . Then, Dson and DDIL dropped by to let her out - and took her for a walk. Lucky doggie. I forgot to reply the other day: she LOVES ice. I have to lure her away from it.

I hope you all had a great weekend.
It’s Presidents’ Day here so banks and government offices are closed. It doesn’t affect us much as I’m still doing chores and dh is at work.
who all here is from the US? Helia, Gma, me… LAnn? What a nice world mix we have here.
Watched some Olympics this morning. I didn’t even know woman’s hockey was a thing. I’m so out of the loop.

Happy Monday!
Can Mondays be happy? Not gonna ponder on that! Our original plan was to go out for dinner as it's my birthday, but the girls have a sleep over at school so no luck there. Maybe tomorrow?
Also, the expensive big city shop says there's nothing wrong with my car (after charging me a hefty fee). It didn't feel off driving it home, so... I just don't know. Also, they must have dropped my keys or something because the remote doesn't work (the key does). It's a self-charging key that is know to be prone to stop working because a certain part comes lose inside, and then the whole key needs to be replaced. Not only is that costly, but it also requires taking it to a specialized place (the key AND the car). I just don't wanna do adulting today!

kittykatt, I think we are up for an interesting journey this week! June will be here before you know it!

The international flavor is one of the main reasons I like this thread, Bama. The holiday doesn't mean much for me either practically speaking. Schools are out here too, I think, going back on Wednesday. Enjoy the parades! There's too much snow on the ground for parades here.

Am I the only one who always kept Kubla Khan and Marco Polo in separate drawers in my brain? I learned "all about" Marco in school, but I'm pretty sure the test was on things like textiles and spices and the concept of trade in world exploration (or something like that). And Kubla was in a completely different class period in a poem. Goes to show we should be educated from a standpoint of people as well as economics and geography. I will have to quiz my grandchildren - maybe they have a well-rounded understanding of these two historic names! (Hope they don't just try to inform me on the swimming pool game.)

helia, I hope you and I both find our loved ones return home safe and sound from travels. Dd27 has been in Houston several days. She flies more often these days, and I notice she tells me after she's already there. Maybe it's just becoming more commonplace, but maybe she's thinking Mom worries too much.

trissie, oh no! Car key remotes have turned into divas, I sometimes think, pricey and temperamental. The late British comedian Ronnie Barker comes to mind, with his signature line for all breakdowns, "Just jiggle it a bit". Thinking that probably only worked with older tech.

Bama, I will have to look up Lundy Gras. I've learned a lot of what I know about Mardi Gras from Ramblinrose, who used to entertain at this time of year, with King's Cake, etc.

kitkat, I am amazed to report that I have a grandchild who is mostly away studying engineering at college now (HOW do these things happen?), but there are 6, all the way down to the last couple in elementary school. Dd27 has not yet branched into nesting.

I know that you have two granddaughters you've mentioned, but my dgdC is surrounded by boys, lol.

Harriet! Hello! I always love it when you pop by -- and you remind me I really should pop in at PWYC sometimes. How can you have a grandchild at university already? Good for them - studying engineering. I have a soft spot for engineers - but also for psychologists/ counselors and artists. Yes, hoping for safe travels for all loved ones.
kitkat, it's nice that dh helped. I don't have a formal WHB anymore. Maybe I should try to dust that off and re-establish it? I might have a couple months of a lighter class load + heavier admin load = lighter load overall.
We had easy kids to raise, Doggedly, which I didn't fully realize at the time. Ds has always been a sweetheart, generally speaking. Enjoy the sunshine!

I'm not sure I've made any progress; I sat here and played games. I did figure out that the weekly KS2J get together with 3 friends is not happening tomorrow due to school breaks.

NOW I'm going to work on cards for the mail and then go for a jog -- and then make sure I'm ready for class tomorrow.
