Gma, thank you for the explanation about starlings and grackles. I'm not observant about birds, as you can tell from my confusion, LOL.

That sounds like a great bible that you bought, Bama. I'm sure that you will enjoy going through it. I think that the bible from 1623 is best off going to a library or private collector who can keep it in a climate-controlled cabinet, safe from humidity and bookworms.

Thank you for starting us off, Kittykatt, and for the butterfly of the day. I understand the fritillary, but where did it get the name Dark Green? It looks orange and black with a brown body in the picture. I wonder if this is like my old coworker who astonished me when she said her eyes were green. I only saw them as brown, which she took as an insult. That was pretty insulting to me, as she could see that my eyes are brown, but I didn't make an issue of that because I like brown eyes so no one is going to make me feel bad about them. Anyway, this coworker insisted that I stare into her eyes until I saw the green. After squinting into them for a while, I did manage to find two flecks of green and so we agreed that she has green eyes, LOL. Maybe the butterfly has a fleck of green somewhere on it that it is very proud of.
I can relate so well to the city that makes parking downtown difficult, but sets up public transit that is so unreliable that people can't trust it to go to appointments or work.

trissie, I'm glad that your difficult week is over, so that you can concentrate on your very busy weekend. :D

helia, this past week has felt like your old schedule where you leapt from one activity to the next like a mountain goat in an avalanche. I can picture how wearing that would be on an introvert. I hope that you can work in some rest periods to recharge.

Kitkat, I hope that you are able to rest your back today.

I'm going to get some breakfast and then turn my attention to those taxes again.
It is a beautiful winter day here, with the snow coming down fast and plentiful. There's lots to keep me busy here in the apartment: taxes, wash hair, dishes, laundry?, sweep, wash floor, bring up the box for the PVR to return to Bell, etc. etc.

Hope kitkat feels better.

helia, that is a remarkable pace, worthy of rant. I thought of you yesterday because it was Poultry Day and I became nostalgic.

Bama, I was so happy for you in your discovery. At first, I mis-read and remembered the Tregoth, which is the Septuagint, and I thought, my goodness, Bama has found a museum treasure from year 250 or something, lol. I was all mixed up but learned from you and Gma yesterday. Anyhow, you sent me down a (very pleasant) rabbit hole of books on Etsy. My older dd is something of a collector and might appreciate a rare-ish book rather than a more predictable gift sometime.

Happy Spring to everyone.

The Fritillary does not look familiar to me, but I smiled to read about their love for wild violets, since my backyard would be the very spot, and I love them, too. Fun for pressing.

Happy spring to you too, Harriet!
Dogged, when are your taxes due?
helia, we all play in our own league! I couldn't do all the socializing you do! No dinner plans yet... will have to think about it!
kittykatt, there's plenty to do to keep yourself busy if you arrive early, but nothing can be done about arriving too late!
kitkat, I think here we're still in the phase where home office is considered a benefit on the side of the companies and requirement on the side of higher profile employees. Like, you won't get good medior/senior IT or finance people if you require them to sit in the office 40 hours per week! But they do try to limit it.

I really couldn't do without my home office Fridays. Not only for the benefit of my house and my mental health, but home office Fridays are also when I get caught up on things and do the end of week closures. And all in all I generally clock more than the 6 hours, because there's always more to do! But I am done (it's 4pm and I planned to finish at 2pm... oh well). Grey and cold and totally unappealing outside, but I think I can convince myself to do a 15 there!

We have grackles all year long, GMA. The safflower seeds seem to limit the grackles at least and I have enough ground feeders that seem to eat the food they put on the ground. At least I am not battling squirrels yet!!

The genetics appointment was interesting, kittykatt. 5-10% of cancer is genetic. She talked to me about the pros and cons of genetic testing. They can test for either 40 or 70 genes linked to cancer. If you have one you can then do some preventative things like more frequent or different screenings and sometimes medication to lessen the chance or up the chance of catching it early.

It is done! Taxes submitted for the year. I upgraded my tax program to the medium-priced option where the tax consultant calls you and goes over the whole thing before you submit, and it gave me peace of mind that I found was really worth it. And I got a refund, which I didn't expect as I've been on pension half the year and not paying taxes ahead of time on that.

Hi, Harriet.

My taxes aren't due until the end of April, trissie, but it feels good to get them out of the way early.
I like that: we all play in our own league. Very true. I couldn't begin to get done all that you do!

Germane is sleeping happily in her spot in the bathroom, kitkat. It turns out that her heart is still pretty good. The issue is her liver. Two of the values came back through the roof, so that seems to the source of her appetite loss.
I can imagine that the song of your dson's dog could lose its entertainment value pretty quickly. When they do that, if you feel the dog's heart any irritation that you feel disappears pretty quickly. That's what I found with Germane anyway. I picked her up once when I came back into the apartment for something that I had forgotten, and realized that she wasn't angry, she was panicking.
Is the heating pad helping you? Do you alternate it with cold?

It sounds like you have a healthy ecosystem going there, L.Ann.
I'm glad that the genetics appointment went well.

Friday
Picked up dog’s food
Heart pill for Germane
Set alarm for one hour. After alarm, put food back down.
Went through records to find vacation days taken in 2025
Reviewed taxes with Turbo Tax and submitted
Double-checked benefits

Happy First Day of Spring Everyone!!!!

I'm out working in my yeard in just a light sweater with a short shlleved t-shirt undeneath, and my work blue jeans. I am pulling oak leaves off my flower circiles and finding 2 inches of tulip leaves sticking up, and a few of the daffodils that I planted also. Lots of twigs to rake up off the lawn after so much wind that we have had, plus tree work I had done, plus I haven't been able to do anything since I left home before Thanksgiving, and got back to frozen ground and snow.
raking lightly
gathered up the mushed pumpkins
swept out my garage
emptied my trunk - goal tomorrow is to vacuum out and clean the inside of my car - and if time, dfBS needs hers done, but that might be a later spring job.
Just pausing to come in for a drink of water, so I'll cuop later
My carpenter is coming soon, I hope - and I just realized it is Friday , and out Co op has really good walleye sandwiches in Lent on Fridays. I missed the first week, but I'm going to get one as soon as my carpenter arrives.

Yay for getting taxes done, Dogged! That's a huge achievement!
gma, spring is coming to you too! hoping spring will bring a good change in a lot of ways!
I don't think I've ever seen a grackle, L.Ann, they seem to be an American species!
I love violets and pansies too, kitkat!

I also love roses. But those things are vicious! This is the second session of trying to get the climber roses under control. Slow and steady has so far been getting me thorns in all imaginable places!

☀️Good afternoon!
🌷🌿Happy Spring! (Thanks for the reminder gma)

I had to take care of some business so posting a little late. Now time to take a break and catch up.

Kitty, thanks for the start and all of the interesting facts on moths vs butterflies.

Helia, vent away. Your schedule is very fast paced and you’re a champion for handling all you do.

Gma, I’ll look up the translation…I have to go retrieve the Bible from where I put it. It’s in very good shape, the seller oiled the covers so they’re smooth, pages are nice and not fragile at all, I’m guessing it sat on a shelf or in a drawer somewhere.

Trissie, lol at “move it move it”, thanks for the ear worm.
I need your expertise as I found an old English to bohemian dictionary (can’t find a date, it’s falling apart, I guess it belonged to my grandparents) and someone wrote in pencil but I can’t quite make it out to ask you to translate what it says. I’m assuming it’s Czech but who knows.
Enjoy your Friday at home.

KitKat, hope you aren’t required to do anything too strenuous and dpup is ok.

Dogged, I am amazed at all of the Bibles and books in general that are so old and available and in pretty good condition.
I have brown eyes and always wanted a light color. Dh makes me so mad, when I met him he had very green eyes and they have slowly changed to a pretty blue. How the heck did that happen and why would it happen to someone who doesn’t even care about eye color?
Huge congratulations on finishing your taxes. (Cue the fireworks!!!) I need to check and see when our appointment is so I have all of the paperwork ready in time.

Harriet, thank you so much. I love my old Bible. I don’t think it’s very rare as I’ve seen several on different sites for sale but I do love being able to compare differences in various versions. Isn’t Etsy fun? You can look for pretty much anything imaginable and someone has it and is selling it lol. Whatnot is an auction app and it’s similar in that you can choose your category, “old books”, “vintage items”, and they will appear. The only bad thing about whatnot is that you can get caught up in bidding so need a max bid in mind before you get too carried away. There are so many sellers though that you can find one not as well known and still get a really good deal.
Violets (and Johnny jump ups) were some of my mom’s favorite flowers. So of course we had to plant some on our property here. We had the purple variety. Then dh’s mom had the white variety and my mom fell in love with those, hadn’t seen them around much, so we planted some. Now we have a mix that see starting to pop up now. I even see them in spots we didn’t plant them. It’s a nice change from weeds and grass.

I’ve chatted too long. Need to get moving. Be back shortly with a list.
♥ Wake each day expecting good things to happen! ♥
