OKay enjoy the weekend with ds and family.

It is amazing how quickly the cake and ice cream add up.

A 2" piece of iced cake is 2 starch and 1 fat = 175 calories
A 1/2 cup ice cream is 1 starch and 2 fat = 165 calories

I will change the way I do the list so others can use it too. I have been putting lucylee's counts in because of the size she mentions.

I have never seen anyone served a 2" piece of cake. Maybe I should have counted it as a 3" piece of cake. Also a serving ice cream on the side is more than 1/2 cup.
Eating this would mean spending my starches and fat budget for the entire day on food that I don't even REALLY like.
That is one of the things I learned OKay is why eat something I don't like just because it is there. There is nothing wrong with taking a bite or 2 and then dumping. You don't want to disappoint your dgs. When he is older and you say no thank you he will understand.

Smart idea checking the menu on line. I do that when I go out to eat.

When I talk about what I order keep in mind I am on 2000 calories and 8 starches a day.

Fruit plate is always a good choice - that is what I get at Bob Evans and other restaurants if it is truly a good fruit plate - not all canned fruit. Another stand by for me for breakfast out is 2 poached eggs, english muffin and ham. I enjoy poached eggs so that one is easy for me.

That sounds like a fun idea trying new restaurants and new foods. It may take you a while to decide what to order but you can be creative. Broth based soups, lettuce based or vegetable based salads with dressing on the side, meat/fish-not fried, veggies and fruit are all good choices. A baked potato is another one. I ask for au jus and put that on my potato or salsa. Sometimes you just can't get away from added fat or sauces but I try. Another thing I noticed is that restaurants are beginning more and more to offer "healthy" menu items and are marked. Restaurants are beginning also to offer yogurt for breakfast. Be careful of the granola it sounds healthy but packs a punch 1/4 cup = 1 starch.

Don't be afraid to take home a dogie bag. I do it all the time.

OKay yes you can do this. It is going to be easier and easier as time goes. This weekend will be your weekend for a creative eating experience. You did well this week when you went out to dinner.

lucylee when I gave you the list of foods I meant to go ahead and mark all the starches with the counts. If the counts weren't in the two links I provided and they weren't on the list I'm doing as we go I would figure them and add them.

I'm sorry I was confusing.

It really helps when you do the counts for the crackers, cookie, etc (they are on the lists). That frees my time to look up and figure out the ones that need to be done by hand.

I probably won't be able to do the counts until tomorrow.

Your popcorn was 4.5 starch and 6 fat = 600 calories for your portion.
You already know the gummy bears were 2.5 starch for 210 calories for your portion.

My breakfast was one peach.

I ate one cupcake at the party today. That was a lot better than it might have been. (thinking of OKay) Unfortunately, the meal was barbecue sandwiches, so very little way of dodging the roll. I went ahead and had one. The rest was slaw, corn, beans.

Here at home one onion ring, one popsicle, one handful of popcorn. No rhyme or reason, just hopscotching around good sense. Social-itis setting in and causing brain function to slow!

HRH says, "don't we need a salad?"

correct.

I went into the previous post and added the crushed ice to the smoothie ingredients. Indiana was calling it a "recipe" and I realized I'd better mention the crushed ice or it might be a pudding recipe not smoothie! When we have them this time of year, 6 pitted cherries add a delicious touch to that smoothie, too.

lucylee here's Thursday & Friday:

Thursday
PB crackers - 1.5 starch, 2 fat
Banana
Granola bar - 1 starch, 3 fat
8 Triscuits - 2 starch,
2 slices cheese
Salad, small amt of Italian dressing
4 crackers – 1 starch
8 oz. hamburger steak
baked potato - 2 starch
1 slice "Texas toast" - 1 starch, 1 ½ fat
1 small York Peppermint Patty - 1 starch
watermelon
chocolate chip cookie 1 starch

Total starch – 10.5

Friday
PB crackers 1.5 starch, 2 fat
Banana
Granola bar 1 starch, 3 fat
Watermelon
4 chicken fingers, fried – 4 starch
french fries – 2 starch, 2 fat
1 slice "texas toast" 1 starch, 1 ½ fat
choc chip cookie 1 starch
movie theater popcorn - 4.5 starch, 6 fat
package of gummy worms – 2.5 starch

Total starch – 17.5

Since we are concentrating on starches, I’ll just do the count of those and maybe fat.

Movie popcorn is just amazing. The numbers are for ½ a large no butter. It is the oil they pop in.

Here is an interesting article I found while looking for the count.

The gummy worms I knew because I keep a serving in a snack baggie for the girls in my purse.
