Social-itis setting in and causing brain function to slow!
Ohhh!! I so understand this statement.
Where is my confidence I had yesterday morning?!? I started out so good, but went downhill.

Breakfast was fiber bar. :D

Snack was banana and pecan halves I took with us and ate while traveling.

Yesterday for lunch we ate at a Catfish place because it has such a great salad bar. I didn't order anything from the menu and just went to the salad bar. I THOUGHT this would be a good idea. My first trip to the salad bar was looking for food that LO could eat.....SCORE! Applesauce and shredded cheddar cheese. With him served I quickly filled my plate and hurried back to the table because he was loudly calling out "Nanaaaaa, Naaaaannnaaaaaa" non-stop. Thankfully the other customers thought it was cute, but I was not thinking about what I was dumping on my plate as much as I was trying to hurry and return to the table so he would stop calling for me. It was later that I realized just how much I ate and groaned.
** half the plate was covered with chopped lettuce :D
** and 1 T real cheddar cheese shredded
** and 2 T ranch salad dressing
** 1/4 cup chopped beets
** 1/4 cup yellow peppers
** 1/2 cup cole slaw
** 1 T potato salad (really small serving - I just wanted a taste)
** Plus I had a small bowl of pinto beans
This wasn't a bad food selection but the VOLUME of food for lunch was waaay too much. I wasn't happy with myself the next couple of hours.
On the good side that is showing progress in my thinking.....I didn't eat any of the peanuts (this place puts large buckets of peanuts on every table). I didn't order from the menu and did NOT feel deprived in any way. I didn't have any desire to eat fried meat, fried potatoes and texas toast. PROGRESS! My taste buds are changing.

I have to hang on to that happy thought because I'm not proud of my eating selection the rest of the day.
** 3" birthday cake (scrapped the icing off & No ice cream!)
** 2 pieces of supreme pizza from Brooklyns
** Carmelized pecans/pear slices/romaine lettuce/watercress/bleu cheese crumbles salad with house dressing (1 T)
** sips from a small glass of wine (1/4 cup)
** sliver of homemade pecan pie
** 1 homemade oatmeal raisin cookie
** sliver of german chocolate cake (no icing)

I'm reminding myself I would have done worst if I hadn't shown SOME restraint. I didn't touch the homemade cinnamon rolls.

OKay lunch may have been too much on volume but your selections were great and you are learning. I think that learning is just as important.

It is amazing the things I learned - I don't like that food so why eat it, I'm full so I'll stop eating and take a doggie bag, I eat only when I'm hungry when on my own but will eat when in company but usually don't finish and do a doggie bag, I don't do emotional eating but I do emotional drinking of hot liquids like V8 or tea or hot milk or coffee or soup. Chocolate isn't at the top of my list. Sometimes I'll do a kiss or something chocolate but I prefer non-chocolate. To me chocolate can be too rich.

You had a great discovery when you found out your taste buds are changing. When I was in the stage you were in I found out there were many things I wasn't interesting in eating but there was a different version of the food I enjoyed.

OKay even though you made some evening choices were not healthy when added up they could have been healthy on their own with what you had for lunch. You showed restraint and you are still in the learning process. You don't want to make the learning process so stiff that you don't want to continue.

One of the benefits I had starting out was I wanted to do tight control because of my meds. I wanted to get my blood sugar under control as fast as I could.

My doctor's favorite saying is "don't count peas" meaning don't great a menu plan so tight you can't enjoy something once in a while. Whenever I had a significant weight loss in a week he would ask me if I was "counting peas" meaning going overboard on not eating.

OKay I think you did well. Yes it could have been better but the bottom line is you did well.

Cute story about LO.

I hope you don't mind that I talk about my experience but I think some are good examples of what to do and not to do.

I read my responses to eating healthy about which I'm very passionate. My responses are too intense and too preachy and too know it all and too much of everything.

I'm going to go back to a semi-laid back attitude. So you can all rest now and do what you are doing so well.

Indiana -- I don't mind your personal stories at all! It is very helpful to see what has worked/is working for someone else. Don't worry about being too preachy or anything; you're a good teacher!
I may not get my weekend foods listed till tomorrow. I don't think I'm going to have time before we go to dinlaws' house, and then dh & I are going out later, I'm sure. My last Sunday before school starts...

OKay, I think you are doing FANTASTIC!

I have not felt too great since Thursday. I think Aunt Flo has my stomach upset. Everything I eat just goes straight through me. Sorry if that's TMI.

Tomorrow I'll start posting what I ate the previous day. Today isn't a good example but I'll post it.

Oh Indiana - Please don't back off. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and hard learned lessons. I need you to tell it like it is.

Today went better. I ate fruit medley for brunch. This afternoon we ate at place which some claim to be Dallas Best hamburger joint (Scotty P's) and I had Garden Salad with grilled chicken. I tried a bite of DH hamburger (great) and 1/2 of an onion ring....also had one bite of of DSon's "Heart attack fries". I enjoyed the taste of each but I honestly didn't want to eat anymore of them. I was perfectly happy and satified with my salad.

It was after 8pm when we arrived home so too late for supper, but I'm not starving so will call it a day.

I'm curious what the scales show in the morning. Even if I gained weight this weekend, I'm overall pleased with my effort and restraint this weekend. It was a GREAT improvement compared to what I usually eat when traveling and visiting DSon and family.

OKay what did the scales say this morning? I'm curious to see if you went up or down.

You didn't have enough of a calorie change to make it an actual weight gain. It will all be water. Restaurant food is notorious for hidden salt.

Sunday

It is barely OK.

Shortcake - 1 starch
Strawberries & blueberries – 1.5 fruit
½ cup milk - .5 dairy

2 scrambled eggs – 2 protein
2 slices toast – 2 starch
2 pats butter – 1 fat
1.5 cups gazpacho – 3 vegetable
Apple – 1 fruit

English muffin – 2 starch
Peanut butter – 2 protein, 1 fat
1.5 cups gazpacho – 3 vegetable

Milk – 1 dairy

Calories 1190.

Although it may look good I hit the food groups but squeaked by on calories. Since I normally have 2000 calories a day I don’t like to go below 1600. 1200 is a bare minimum.

Weight was up .6 lbs this morning, but honestly I was pleased it was ONLY UP 1/2 lb. I've been know to gain several lbs over a weekend where I am celebrating and eating out meal after meal.

Thankfully I kept the starches low Wed-Friday in prep for it because Saturday was a horror when I added them up - 15.9 starches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Starch averages for August
Week 1 = 6.9 starches
Week 2 = 6.5 starches

Weight loss since 1 August = 4.8 lbs.

This is the end of the Grandchildren birthdays celebrations (until little one is born in December) so hopefully my eating can settle down and become normal.
