Ta Da -- We have survived three days with the dgrands PLUS a big plumbing emergency PLUS dh's birthday "party."
Whew.
Y'all. Oh my goodness. I don't know when I posted last, but it has been wild around here.
DH asked dgs if he was just "showing out" for dgd. DGS is usually sooo good for us, but he was just wild. We'd tell him to stop doing something and five minutes later, he'd be doing it again.
The high point

of the week must have been last night.
DGD came back from the swimming party, which I did not attend, (ddil took them) and she wanted her bath. I put her off, and she fell asleep. Mistake #1, I guess.
Around MIDNIGHT, she woke up with a mad face on, and when I said, "Well. How are you doing," SHE said: "I want a BATH."
DH had just announced that he did not feel well at all, and he was going to bed. Very unusual for him. So I took dgd into the bedroom and asked him if we'd be bothering him if she went ahead and had her bath. Figured she was going to be up awhile anyway, after a 3-4 hour "nap."
Mistake #2.
As I tried to turn off the bath water, it would NOT budge. I mean, the knob would budge, but the water flow continued just like Niagara Falls.
I had to get dh up, and he tried all kinds of things, but NOTHING worked.
He went outside to turn off the water. Couldn't do that either.
I called the water dept and finally got a technician out here, but it was going to be about 30 minutes, they said, until he arrived.
Checked online for 24-hr emergency plumbers, and it was going to be an HOUR till he could get here. (I felt like I could do without water till the daylight and get a normal 9-5 plumber, but dh wanted it taken care of NOW.)
While waiting, the water kept rising. It was coming in faster than it could drain out. I had to bail water from the tub to dh's shower stall. What a mess.
Finally... finally... at 3:45 a.m., the plumber left, and all is well. At "only" a cost of $210 for the washer he replaced. Can y'all believe that? Of course, since he came from an hour away, at 2:00 a.m. in the morning... dh said it was well worth it.
It is very expensive to live with a man who is completely at a loss in the home repair business. Sheesh . I bet my daddy would have realized the washer was the problem. DH saw the washer crumble and fall out during his attempts to turn off the faucet.
But after all the excitement and everything, dh woke up feeling pretty good this morning, and his birthday dinner (pizza) went very well... dmom made a delicious cake... dbil and his gfriend came... and all's well that ends well.
I know dh and I are glad to have the house to ourselves for a change though. Oh my goodness. It has been EXHAUSTING.
LadyM... how you do this 24/7, I do not know. How ddil and ds do this... How does ANYONE manage more than one child, I don't know.
Dmom is trying to line me up to take her for out-patient "surgery" for the balloon procedure they do on sinuses. She said they could do it in the doctor's office, but she can't bear the thought of that without being put to sleep.
I told her I do not have a Monday that I am available until Aug. 26th.
DDIL lining me up for babysitting on at least two days when ds will be busy or out of town... plus the Mon/Wed classes she'll have starting Aug. 19.
I have doctor's appts the 12th and 14th and
dh has his appt with new cardiologist the 19th -- and dgd will have to go to that appt with us.
I know this stage of life will not last forever, and when it is gone, it will seem that it passed way too quickly... but oh my goodness, it is overwhelming at the moment.
Just trying to cuop a little bit --
Twins -- oh my goodness, that is ME --
Why is it I have a productive day (yesterday) followed by one where I can't seem to get any traction?
Always.
I had a list of all I needed to do today, before the party, when ds picked up the dgrands. Well... after all the excitement last night, and then ds not leaving till 3:00 pm himself, I told dh, I didn't care what happened, I was taking a nap.
I told dbil's girlfriend, "My standards have fallen quite a bit since the first time you visited. I would say it's like, 'how the mighty have fallen,' but it's more like, how the mediocre have fallen, because I was never 'mighty' in this department."
Needless to say, I did not polish the back door with Old English polish.
I swept the kitchen and s/s the bathroom. Period.
Hey -- one bonus for the day -- I met my FitBit goal (8000 steps) today. I was over halfway there before I went to bed!!!
Waving to you ALL!!! Hope your August goes smoothly.
