Mernin!

Come here trissie and let me touch you with my glue sticky fingers đź‘‹ Do you have all these fruit trees in your yard? I keep planting satsumas but they all die on me. Let me know if you find a good book to listen to. I need to mow today and need something to listen to. We had the triangle but I never made it far enough to use it much. What are glass noodles?

Hi, Harriet! Some here use “tickled” in the Deep South. I do have good intentions of trying to post in other places but I tend to get sucked in easily so have limited myself to here and the habit thread for now. The world has definitely advanced since I joined the shes. I’m grateful for the help I would get using a new to me computer years ago.

Helia, sorry you have to deal with the bad manners. Hopefully this time will pass quickly.

Doggedly, I did have a set of Garfield glasses from McDonald’s in the 70s but any I’ve run across now are very faded and worn. I shoulda kept them. :P I would just hide my stuff so nobody could use it. I just recently replaced my forks, had 10 or a dozen and was down to 4, finally found the name of the company and set and ordered. I should force plastic ones on everyone when they visit. Or tell them to bring their own lol. I’m avoiding pet cleaning for now by hiding in the bedroom.

Laura, cute about the recording of lil Laura, enjoy your soak.

LAnn, hope your day is going well now that urgent care is out of the way.

Gma, good on the eating and the fasting. Is it 24 hours and repeated weekly or a one time thing to get you started?

I’ve been up playing my game, had a mini challenge to beat.
Dh got us breakfast and made coffee. Now sort of watching an episode of Oak Island, he loves history shows, they all have missing treasures or creatures that can’t be proven to exist. Today’s agenda includes mowing, building a small ramp to compensate for large step down from kitchen to sun room at Hollywood, all the daily chores that won’t quit, and all the lists in my head. Toodles for now.

Hello Peaches.

Coming back through. Dh, myself, dd27, Dbro and dniece had a nice visit with Mom this morning. We chatted in her room, mostly with each other. She was interested in some pictures. Dd27 showed her pics of the quilt she is making for baby I, and she found that interesting. I asked her a question about quilting and she nodded her head "yes". I gave her a little water, which she struggled to swallow. However, I am deeply sad and tired now. Mom cannot eat anymore and is struggling to swallow liquids. I had a short phone conversation with friend R after we got home. He's an MD in internal medicine and works at the big U's hospital. I explained where my mom was at, and he thought it might be a week. No one knows for sure, of course. I will probably not go to the baby shower.

I got the pot roast + sauce prepped and in the crock pot. Did some communications re: my mom. I'm going to hold onto my schedule lightly for the next few weeks.

Next:
- make the bed
- some qt
- back exercises

Later:
- make the bed
- some qt
- Apple Orchard outing
- payroll: edit next writing coursepack
- payroll: end of session tasks
- go for a jog
- dinner for 6: pot roast, baby potatoes, veggie TBD
- after dinner clean up
- update health apps
- duolingo
- read/ knit - something fun and relaxing

TaDas!
- up; weighed self
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website
- s2s and self care
- WF run

(((Helia and dmom))), you’re doing all you can, I pray that comforts you. Could she suck on some pudding to keep her mouth moist or does she push it back out with her tongue?
I know she loves seeing you all on visits and enjoys the pictures and conversation.

Ffb, I’m so sorry I didn’t answer you. I did respond in my head while reading but dh was chatting and I inadvertently skipped it when posting. For a fall garden I like to plant a mix of greens (collard, turnip, mustard, kale) in one bed and snip the baby leaves to cook. They will keep producing and it saves me the trouble of having to clean larger stalks on mature plants. I don’t like having to cut out ribs and rinse dirt off repeatedly, so much easier to use them up when tender and small. The deer got ours last year, even though it was right in front of the house and I’ve never seen them that close. They’re sneaky. Might have to devise some sort of cover.

Bama, should I admit that I have genuine Kellogg's Cornflakes silverplate cutlery from the 1960's? Not in every day use; I use stainless steel like a sane person who does not have a staff of twelve to polish silver all day. You sent box tops and some money for individual pieces. I even have the form, showing what it is. Not a complete set though; my mother really did use it for every day, and when they got too worn my mother tossed them, LOL. And I have a Garfield pillow case that was a gift from a friend.
Happy mowing, ramping and choring!

Hi, Peaches

(((helia and dfamily))) I'm glad that the visit with your dmother went well, but am sorry for what you are going through now.

How cool, Dogged. I’d definitely frame that up and display it. You might find missing pieces online. I’ve found things I thought no longer existed. Remember clackers? Two glass balls connected by a thin rope that you could hit together. They got banned because the glass could shatter. I had a pair when I was little and loved them, never broke, dunno what I did with them. My mother was very organized so they probably got tossed or donated when I got tired of playing with them. Stainless steel is the way to go. Our staffs are busy with fur and excrement.

helia, so sorry about your mom... will they put her on a feeding tube, or is it time to let her go? Still, it's not easy... Was the baby shower for one of your friends, or for your DGrandBaby?

Dogged, our kids received real silver spoons as Christening gifts from a friend. Needless to say, we use stainless steel spoons :-)

hi Peaches!

What book did you read, L.Ann?

Bama, glass noodles are these thin translucent noodles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_noodles - I ended up making rice anyway, but they are good in needing minimum time to be done.
Re the trees, our garden is not overly large - the entire plot including the house is 65 by 130 feet, which is less then 0.2 acres - but it has a good variety of fruit trees. We have:
- pear tree
- four apple trees
- sour cherry
- sweet cherry
- plum
- apricot
- two peach trees (one of them is in a bad location, hence planting another one)
- common meddlar
- a large fig bush
- two chokeberry bushes
- two grapevines
- four gooseberry bushes (two red, two white)
- six currant bushes (two red, two black, two white)
- josta bush
- Canadian blueberries
- honeyberries
- sea buckthorns
- and a patch of raspberries and blackberries

Last year, there was very bad late frost, which killed pretty much everything (we only had the berries), and this year, the apple and plum trees have gone MAD. DH has been bringing baskets and baskets of plums and I am stuck trying to do something with them!

I wish I could say I was done, but I still need to clean up after all that cooking! But after that, I'll call it a day as it's 9:45 already!

TaDas
- afternoon routine
- shredded apples made and canned
- apple sauce in canner
- dinner
- bake bread
- dinner dishes done

ToDos
- evening routine

Hello everyone!

FFB, I hope Mr NG can find an internship nearby. A paid internship would be even better! :D When I had my allotment, autumn was the time for planting winter greens - the brassica family such as kale, broccoli (both types) , xxx cabbage etc. also autumn onions from set, and the autumn sown broad beans.

Trissie, your garden is very productive! I think we called the triangle ruler a set square? It was definitely an in my geometry tin. But I regret to say I spent more time drawing flower patterns with the compass! .

L.Ann, I'm glad your toe has healed on -yikes on the break!

Harriet, sometimes the old ways are the best, and certainly more reliable as not dependant on on a power supply or a temperamental computer/ printer. :D

Laura, a recording of Little Laura sounds so sweet! :D

(((Helia and family))) So sorry about your DMum. I hope the rest of your DBro's visit is as stressful free as possible.

Bama, I'm planting dwarf daffodils to flower next spring. Oh, and a few tulips too.

Dogged, my Grandmother insisted I was fed with a silver spoon when I was a baby. Apparently it was something to do with germs not surviving on silver? (Can I just say that although my parents didn't get a dishwasher until the 1980s, there was always plenty of hot water when I was growing up! )

Hi, Peaches!

It's been a very full day. DF CW texted to say G13 (today!) had asked if I would come to her little family get-together for coffee and cake this morning. So that was a nice time. Then I came.home.and cleaned the windows as it was another nice day. And ran the hoover and a duster round downstairs and tidied up, so we look more respectable. In the garden, I managed to prune 4 roses, and had a long chat with Dneighbour S, who has given us some tomatoes from his garden. And I e prepped lunch for tomorrow, made a chocolate cake for us and flapjack for the Y (I'd forgotten it was my week!)

DH is back, having apparently had a wonderful time with DBro and DNiece. When I asked what they had done the reply was " Visit pubs and drink beer". Make of that what you will!
