Harriet, I remember the Highwayman!! That was one poem I liked but I don't remember when I studied it. WTG recalling the memorized poems!
Bama, that's a LOT of paperwork to deal with. No wonder you've been avoiding it.
Kitkat, I have a very similar system! I have a spiral notebook which I use for umpteen things, but mainly weekly and daily lists. For my weekly list, I split my page into 4 general sections: Errands/ Meetings, Deskwork, Payroll, and House. I almost always transfer some items to the next week. I will then write daily lists on the following pages; I fold the page in half lengthwise and get 2 days on each page.
Germane is keeping you busy today, Doggedly.
I see you're doing some yardwork, L Ann.
Ooh, I see you're doing yardwork as well, trissie. Spring is on its way!

I'm sitting outside at a cafe' with dh now. It's warm - but not too warm; a breeze is helping. I'm wearing capris and a short sleeved blouse. 8-) I'm going to work on my quiet time next, do a little payroll, and then spend some time writing. I did update attendance. One student was absent all week -- and I wanted to confirm that.

Next:
- some qt
- payroll: edit LBBR Exam
- writing time

Later:
- walk eventually
- some qt
- payroll: edit LBBR Exam
- payroll: make AR Exam
- payroll: update timesheet
- writing time
- text KY - time to meet tomorrow
- 5:30 dinner reservations with Ks
- update health apps
- other things?

TaDas!
- threw on clothes
- duolingo
- figured out how to charge laptop and phone
- made a list
- WF
- put everything away
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website
- updated WW app
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- make the bed
- texts with KY - we're on for lunch tomorrow.
- walk to coffee shop; meet dh
- update attendance

Kittykatt, I can imagine that the start of spring is a crazy busy time for gardeners!

trissie, I just heard Vaclev Havel quoted by my Prime Minister. I was listening to his speech at Davos. Funny you mentioning him again so soon. He clearly had lots to say worth listening to!
That sounds like a fun outing, and woo hoo to the clean enough house and DH!
I can't put all of the blame on Germane. I seem to be moving quite slowly today.

Oh, helia, it is so frustrating to lose a long post, after you have put your time into writing it.
It's wise of you and your DH to travel with your own wifi. Safer in so many ways.

That does add an extra step, when they don't pick up the recycling from you, L.Ann.

Harriet, I'm glad that my not-morning-person persona is not showing itself too obviously.
The prospect of treat food motivates me when I'm shopping. Good plan!

I see what you mean about the alarm testing, Bama. My guess is that they have to do redundant tests because they stopped testing them every month.
Poor Germane is having digestive issues today. Which is no doubt connected to her not eating what she is supposed to, but of course the loss of appetite has its own underlying cause. I have an appointment set for her with the vet next week, so we'll be looking into her heart and lungs as well as her appetite.
Sometimes winging it is the sanest thing to do.

Enjoy your walk, kitkat. (I hope that the freezing rain has stopped and the ground is dry.)

kitkat, I am happy for you (and admiring) that you can crochet on the diagonal and not end up with strange shapes. You are right, it is a mood-booster.

helia, I remember having to memorize The Highwayman in elementary school. All that I remember of it now is "The highway man came riding, riding, riding" and nothing else.
On the other hand, at one point in my working life, I decided to put my time at the bus stop to use by starting to memorize The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, which I enjoyed more. Obviously, I didn't make it to the end.
How nice to be able to sit outside at a cafe, helia. I'm glad that your trip is going well.

That is ideal when everyone can agree on the level of spiciness L.Ann.

A restart is the best approach when the day is failing to launch, Bama.

Up next: go back to filling the breadmaker.

Friday
Cleaned up after dog X 2
Put dog in the sink and spot-cleaned her
Put on a pot of coffee
Tried multiple times to get Alexa to play the radio
Power-cycled Alexa
Checked internet: both modems down
Checked for outages: neither ISP reports and outage
Powercycled both modems
Tested internet: working now
Tested Alexa: still not working
Powercycled Alexa
Watered plants
Swept
Washed floor
Dog came out and started peeing off of the end of her pee pads. Tried to lift the corners to keep the pee on the pee pads but could not get there fast enough
Washed floor
Replaced tissue box on desk
Cut down tissue boxes for recycling
Looked up recipe for breadmaker
Started measuring the water for the breadmaker. Lost my temper with a tiny fly that didn’t belong in my kitchen. Put the water in the breadmaker. Waited for the bubbles to burst, because one of them looked suspicious. Sure enough, it was the fly.
Dumped the water, rinsed out breakmaker liner and paddle, remeasured the water.
Friday is a popular day. Can I just give my Friday to somebody else and just not have it?
Got shortening and salt into the breadmaker
Went to the bathroom. Got my hair brushed
Came out to gather clothes for shower: cannot reach my clothes. Germane has used her pee pad, as she should.
Mini grooming session for dog
Treat for dog: found a piece of carrot on the floor, so gave her fish instead of pork and broth.
Cleaned up after dog: not just now, there is a dog on the pee pad again
Started gathering clothes for shower: got tshirt, tried to hang tshirt on hook on bathroom door, picked tshirt back up off the floor
Cleaned up after dog: nope she’s back on the pee pad
Spotted dog squatting on the traction mat
Carried her over to pee pads, stubbed my toe and scared the living daylights out of her
Treat for dog
Cleaned up after dog
Petting session
Treats for dog
Showered/washed hair
Wiped down bathtub
Started getting strange pains. Sat down to CUOP while I waited for them to pass.
Got Germane a treat.
Jumped up because I thought that I heard Germane upchucking. It was just her licking her bowl around the floor. She has a great appetite today, even if she is studiously avoiding her dog food.

Doggedly, you are taking such great care of your dear aging Germane. One of my catalogs has a t-shirt for you: "I'd be better at being a morning person if morning started at noon." I'm sure the alarm testing is required to verify weekly or monthly that the system is working. They did it regularly at my mother's NH too. Very noisy!
Bama, I have never found a repetetive system. I need to write down in the evening what needs to be done the next day, so I konw what to do when I get up.
Harriet, nice to see you here. WTG on the re-memory.
helia, sounds like a great afternoon, nice and warm, and time with dh. Glad your trip went well.
trissie, theatre experiences are almost always great. How nice to have na "in." I read the review - absurd, farce, yet philosophical. Sounds like a great play.
Laura, can you "block" the little sweater and make it straighter? Crocheting can be a challenge, but I do enjoy it too. I don't have any project right now.
L.ann, you have to be dedicated to work on those taxes, plus detailed cleaning. It takes dedication when recycling pick up doesn't come to your house.
kitkat, I'm someitmes with you on all those little things - they can delay even getting started on the big thing that really needs doing. But sometimes I do need to just dedicate a focus on multiple little things too. No 2 days are ever the same.
kittykatt, I think Robert Frost was my favorite poet when I had poetry class in school. He died when I was in 10 grade. (Carl Sandburg was another. I think my high school included every one of the poets you have included this week! ) I especially like, and can even remember a few lines from both Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening (Done we all have "miles to go before I sleep") and The Road less travelled.
did I keep track of everyone?

I have made good use of the K cleaning I did before bed last night. 4 Cardamon braids area accomplished. They smell pretty good!
And the DW has run through, so the only dishes I have left to do are the baking sheets.

Went to our food coop for the walleye sandwich. Shared it with dfBS, plus brought her a brownie that I baked last night. Good lunch while the bread dough was rising.
I got some old pills to the medication drop-off disposal. Good to get those out of the house. We have curbside garbage, curbside recycling, but have to take certain plastics - like plastic grocery sacks and other shopping bags - to specified locations if we want to recycle. Our chruch frequently reminds us that recycling is good stewardship of God's creation. We are also being encouraged to keep a container for things that can compost and bring it to the city compost sites. Garbage is so complicated these days! I recently learned that composting is a good habit - the things, even labeled biodegradable, that go into the landfill take 400-500 years to decompose in the landfill, but just a few months in composting, then can be returned to the soil. And landfill creates methane, a more powerful green house gas than carbon dioxide. (I wonder if anyone has figured out how to extract methane from landfills, or maybe they haven't been around long enough?)

I do need to get my walk in, but I'm tired and want to rest first.

Hello everyone!!

Trissie I'm glad you had a time yesterday evening - you deserve it . I'm glad your discovering new-to - songs you enjoy.

Laura, I'm very impressed you're able to fix your crochet project. I hope Casper is cooperative!

Freezing rain does *not* sound fun, KitKat. I'm sure you'll have fun with DGD

Dogged, I'm sorry Germane isn't well today, especially with all the extra work for you it entails.

Harriet, we did the Highwayman at school too, but when I looked it up, I discovered we only read part one and the epilogue. Part two was ( understandably!) skipped. :!:

L.Ann, we have fortnightly collections.for recycling. It's a bit of a patchwork quit, as different councils have different systems. The government is supposed to to be bringing in their so-called "simpler recycling" from the end of March this year, but it's all gone very quiet.

Bama, I have a notebook and pen on my bedside table, where I can write anything I need to remember.for the next morning, or anything that comes.to me during the small hours!

Helia, how lovely to be sitting outside with your coffee. Sorry about the lack of internet - fingers crossed it gets sorted out.

Gma, I'm so glad you've enjoyed this week's theme. It's been quite a self indulgence for me, but then, I thought, Why not share my favourites with my friends? :D

I've got lots of little jobs done today - the biggest achievement was to get a new contract for our broadband - cheaper price, should be more reliable, and new kit. And we get a free visit from an engineer to come and install everything. Of course, DH is perfectly capable, but if there's something wrong with the new router or a faulty cable, the engineer will deal with it. And also, of they're giving me us a free appointment, why not make the most of it! I e also filled in a survey regarding the upcoming local council elections, and emailed Freddie's vet. The sun came out this afternoon, although it was still chilly, so I had some time in my garden and fed the pots. And we've visited DNeighbours S and T, and met Cookie - she's adorable and very friendly. DH has had choir, and I cooked Welsh rabbit jacket potatoes with ham and salad for supper.

Matilda is telling me it's bed time, so I'd better get up those stairs!

Flyby to update list.
Mainly focusing on paper piles, guess what I found. THREE small wire notebooks full of lists. Argh!

Sorry to post and run but I know you understand. I have one more small pile to get through and then I need to run outside before the sun goes down.

Daylight savings time is this weekend. Yay for longer days! (Although I will miss the cold)

Thank you, Gma. I feel guilty at not doing more for her, but I try to balance what she needs against what she doesn't want to put up with.
I'll bet that your kitchen smells delicious.

Kittykatt, WTG on getting a less expensive broadband service. Have a good night.

That's a nightmare, Bama--your To Do List is recruiting reinforcements?
