So far, no change on the scale here. I have been holding my own very cleverly, but not clever enough to lose.

Today breakfast was 200 calories and lunch 450. I just had a snack for 300, so 950 right now and would like to keep supper at about 250.

When I was trying to heal from the foot-in-the-hole incident, going back to my Sketchers Shape Ups shoes made my leg feel better, I believe. Probably a result of using different muscles as much as particular comfort. I was very pleased at the Rack Room shoe store to see that the selection of Shape Ups and their new Tone Ups (bottom is flat - doesn't look like a rocker), which interested dd, has expanded so much with lots of styles and color/cuteness choices and one Tone Up specifically for running, even. We only bought for dd that day (neon green and white Tone Up she has been getting compliments on), but I am tempted to go back for me. They are not cheap, of course, although we took advantage of the "buy one get one 50 percent off" things most shoe stores seem to have going these days.

Thanks, you reassured me Cowinkie! Also not a bad idea about remembering socks know no gender, really. (Well, there's a guy Emptynester runs into sometimes in a bookstore... smile!) Makes me think about the largest sizes of boys socks so maybe I'll read some labels in that dept next trip.

Hi, Lynlee!! Your beach trip and tranquil time sounded so healthy!

Kathryn, heating/dryness are here - I have told HRH I want him to check out our humidifier and make sure he's satisfied it doesn't need anything, because we need to get that thing humming this time of year.

Today I've done 4 mi. on the ex. bike; total gym arm work out, raked leaves and did a walk I am determined to get the scales moving in the right direction again.

Two days ago, my scales took a 2 pound drop which was nice to see.

It will probably be back up this morning but I deserve that. I had fish and chips yesterday at lunch and while I scaled back my eating for the rest of the day, it still greatly pushed the WW concept of 'flex points'. I'll try and eat very well for today and tomorrow and to exercise more. I did forget to count the housework yesterday as exercise (and if you move enough that you sweat, you can count it as low exercise under WW.) I did almost 3 hours of heavy housework (vacuuming, washing windows, etc.)

I'm hoping that all my work around the house will help me feel more in control and be reflected in my eating.

There's been a sea-change in my energy level since starting the SAD light, so I'm very good about doing that each day. I'm not sure I've ever noticed such a dramatic difference.

Good News = I've lost 3 lbs this month so am on track to met my goal.

Not so good news = I've lost one of the two rings I always wear. It fell off my finger somewhere yesterday (probably while working in the garden). **VBSigh** I was trying to wait until I finished the weight loss focus before resizing the rings. However resizing my wedding ring just moved up to top priority. I've removed it from my finger so it won't fall off and get lost too.

Wow, great activity level, Nancy.

Happy for your numbers change, Kathryn - I know you have been waiting, tapping your foot over that. Now the trend escalates.

((OKay))
I still donwanna talk about the loss/theft of the engagement ring HRH gave me - it was traumatic. He had had it insured, so it's not as if we didn't get to replace it, but the sickening feeling of it being gone I wouldn't want to relive. Actually, having the meeting with the insurance guy was even traumatic! I wear the new engagement ring sparingly - just to church and at times I feel are special. I bought a set of non-treasure "ring guard" type bands with faux stones at Dillards, to have something "marriage-y" on my left hand, you know, on a daily basis, lol. And while cleaning at my ddad's house a few months back, one of those just disappeared and has never been found. So I keep in mind that rings can and do leave one's fingers.

I was down 1/2 pound today. I post it because I'm thinking this may actually be my rate! About 1.5 pounds per month. Gee. Let's hope I can accelerate that.

My meals being smaller is good for me - I generally feel better with smaller meals at a time. I think I've felt better in lots of ways while more actively trying to lose with small meals. I think, among other things, it is good that sodium doesn't hit me all at once, but is divided between two meals. I imagine that even a fast-food burger would be easier for the body to take if you had 1/2 and then 1/2 a couple hours later.

Cowinkie found some all-cotton socks on Amazon that are spiffy :) . That had me looking around with some irritation, too, at the different cotton contents of socks you can choose from there. I had no idea of one product's existence - the Gold Toe Women's Turn-Cuff Anklet with 70 % pima cotton. I could have been buying that conveniently, for instance, where many Gold Toe socks are sold here, right on my way to other errands, but nobody carries that one.

I hope your dh feels better soon, Nancy.

Anyone ever use coconut oil? It's different from other oils because the body uses its type of triglicerides right away. The upshot of this is that coconut oil burns up quickly in the body and doesn't hang around, and therefore speeds up the rate at which the body turns fat into fuel. It doesn't even travel throughout the body in the bloodstream - it goes directly from digestion/liver into the cells and doesn't affect the blood, except in doing good by not bothering it. It has texture more like butter than oil until it melts, though, so it used to be thought of as "fatty", which nobody could explain well since people who lived in places with coconut trees and ate it all the time were slim and healthy.

There are several books about it. One, The Coconut Diet, came out in 2006, by Cherie Calbom (The Juice Lady) and her dh, and Calbom talks a lot about thyroid health in it - the reason I was reading. The idea for using it to help thyroid symptoms is to replace other oils that are harder on the thyroid for frying, stir-frying, and even try to add additional coconut oil into your diet, through smoothies, etc. Amazon gives lots and lots of pages of the book to read if anyone else is interested. You click on "Look Inside This Book". Evidently she was very generous with that.

I have eaten too little today because of stuff happening. I will go have a salad before I get ready for bed.

On the subject of sox, I wear cotton ones but do not know what % is cotton. We got outside today to walk, baby in stroller, dog on leash, and 3 adults and we walked (brisk was the speed DD1 picked) and my foot between the ball and base of toes began to be sore. Tonight I viewed opened up blister there. 1 1/2 mile walk and now a sore foot.

The week I began work on my quilt, I guess I was hunched over the table quite a bit and my back became very sore in one spot directly above and to the center of my hip. While we were at DD2's house doing all that work, I continued to be sore and got worse, only getting through that time with frequent raids on the aspirin bottle.

I am stiff and sore everywhere these days. Bending, standing for prolonged times, all makes me feel pretty sore. Baby duty is really really hard. I do not like this aging stuff. And I do not know how to get limber again. Stretching, exercising, working, only seems to make it worse. I sure don't want to start down that pain-killer road.

Oh, well, here I am moaning again. On a positive note, my body is loving this time change. I'm making real progress with getting my internal clock reset.

Harriet, I have used that coconut oil some. I'd read about its benefits years ago. But, I'd heard it is only the coconuts from some trees, not all, which produces the healthiest oil. (This was from Dr. Mercola). I still have problems using something where I don't actually see any benefit. I took lots of supplements over the years, and who knows what I kept from happening, though when I gave up most, not a blessed thing changed that I could see. If one could just really see and feel the benefit, it would be so much easier to follow, don't you think?

Coconut oil set off alarm bells for me so I went to wikipedia.

Sure enough the high cholesterol issues were covered. The upshot - use virgin coconut oil, not partially hydrogenated. So this is one place where buying organic/pure is really important.

This is almost a replay of the butter/margarine issue, where transfats were not understood and the damage they did was/is worse than the damage butter does.

And as usual, moderation in all things. I'm sure if I used coconut oil for my deep frying and then started using my deep fryer more than 2 - 3 times a month, the benefit would be lost.

The scale went down another 2 (for a total of 4) inexplicably and then popped back up 3 (not unexpectedly, I had the ribs the day before.)

I'm on the treadmill today. I had skipped it yesterday because I needed to get going in the morning and the treadmill and other exercises actually take about 65 - 90 minutes plus leave me very tired and slow moving. There's a benefit but a major cost as well.

On the other hand, I could not stop eating yesterday. It completely threw me off the WW program for the week so I'm declaring today the first day of the rest of my life and resetting my start day for my WW week.

The burning of the lodge at White Point didn't set me off on the eating but I'll be battling that all day. I was sobbing deep grief sobs as I went to sleep and woke up with the awful sense that White Point is gone. While the cabins are still there and my boulders on the beach, the lake and the river are still there, all these need the lodge because it is semi-isolated (30 minutes drive from town) and there are no cooking facilities in the cabin. We need the lodge for at least 1 meal a day because we hate to leave the resort, it is like a magnet.

More importantly is my history with the place. What I am grieving is the loss of my grandparents. Each time I'd walk into the dining room, I could see them at their table by the window, or my cousins, aunts and grandparents gathered around a big table in the centre of the dining room. The table layout has changed over the years, but in general, the dining room was my portal to my childhood and being at White Point with my grandparents. I literally am mourning them again despite the fact that they've been dead almost 4 decades. At White Point I'd reconnect with them each year and now that is gone.

My own children will be upset too but they will be more open to any rebuilding that may happen (assuming it doesn't just shut down.) They are still making memories there; mine started forming 50 years ago and most of the players in my memories are dead so I can't make new ones. I still 'see' my parents on the paths (some days almost literally, one day dh looked out and said he could see my parents and I had already noted the couple walking along were dead ringers for my folks) so it is just my grandparents that have been lost in this fire.
