it been a very good thing d twins! I am not in the best shape but working in the garden will help with both my mental and physical health.
today I realized my roses, which I love have done terribly over the winter - it's a shock. lots of black rot. I may loose three of them. When I ordered the climbing roses, I thought they were zone 5 but just found out they are for zone 6 - no wonder they struggled.
my hope tomorrow is to get all the cut up branches and stuff out to the front curb.
it's probably too early but many things have not come back. not sure why. these perennials are usually so good.
weeds are appearing and I need to get into those.

Re: The 2025 Village Gardens
One day I will get here and join you all in the garden. Soon. I don't think I should expend the energy today. I have to clean up the dog zone outside and get started in the garden.
Deciding if my garden will get planted or if I do it in dad's big beautiful greenhouses that he can't get started at least this year.
Then maybe steal the dirt from the garden and redo my flower beds. I can't decide. Dad's garden requires me be out there to do it. Not sure I have that in me ...

Re: The 2025 Village Gardens
Hi! Dh cut the grass yesterday for the first time this year. We usually stop cutting the grass around the end of October.
All of the crocuses and daffodils are out. Still waiting on tulips. Forsythia is starting to go from yellow to green already.
Trumpet vine has been almost cut back all the way to the ground. It gets into the 4 cedars and I think they might not make it another year. Dh doesn't want to cut them down. Our red bud has buds on it and so does the lilac bush in the front yard.

Re: The 2025 Village Gardens
transferred my sun gold tomatoes to a bigger pot, same with cosmos, it is cold and windy outside.
I watered pots the other day - I have the young man coming tomorrow.
I thinned out the basil but will wait on transferring to 4 x 4 pots

Re: The 2025 Village Gardens
The roses are old fashioned from homestead one is yellow,What kind of rose / do you have jap. beetles?
and the other is a red climber from root stock.
I have not noticed the beetles here.
The roses will be blooming in a couple of weeks. Usually by mothers day.
As other roses die I am not replacing them b/c of the thorns.
I'm putting in other flowers that seem to do well like bulbs
or ones that reseed.
I also have rugsa pink roses and other old ones that are pink from the farm.

Re: The 2025 Village Gardens
Thanks for thoughts and prayers. Maybe eventually he will be able to get out again. I think he might if we did all the prep work and planting maybe he could in a couple months. He used to love it but last year was very hard with mom and he was getting worse with the heart trouble so he started and we ended up having to do all the work. He says he's just not this year. I think he would like it if we offered to do it I just don't have it in me to commit to that and be successful.
Now I need to find energy. Today is absolutely beautiful and I should be out in it. I should at least go for a walk with boots on and investigate what is growing. Maybe it will inspire me.

I was in the garden and watered some in front and back this morning.
Collected some onion tops for cut chives to use today.

We have had so many daffodils come out in the past week. Along the driveway and around the base of the maple at the front of the yard. Forsythia is still yellow with a bit of green. I should take a picture.
Dh and I would like to get outside and work on taking out the rest of the trumpet vine from last year. We are both stuck to our seats I think.
