***SPLAT***

That is the sound of me not being successful in TAKING CARE OF MYSELF yesterday. I am not considering yesterday a total failure, but I was not successful in doing some of the basic tasks that are cornerstones. They have been proven be helpful for my physical, mental and emotional health.

I didn't intentionally decide not to do them, but I wasn't focused on getting them done. I was busy doing other things. ANYWAY, the result was the end of day arrived without them being done.

I am hopeful that I can put that one day oops behind me and do what I know makes me feel better. It takes intentional focus for me to do them.

LadyM..we all have days like that! I know I sure do. Be kind to yourself, none of us are perfect and sometimes all have off days.

Yesterday:
11K steps
64 ozs of water
Got in my protein
Exercised

No headache!

One day at a time

LadyM, I know your tenacity - it's like riding a horse, just get back up and go again today!

10.5K steps
80 ozs of water
Ate protein
6 sugars. Artificial
Took my vitamins
Exercised

No headaches!

I got really hungry in the mid-afternoon so I ate extra protein. Ate an early dinner cause I was still hungry. Didn’t even taste the pizza I made for Sweetie.

I am tracking my day in a notebook I set up. Haven’t done that for a while.

Thank you for the encouragement. It helps to see others efforts and thoughts.

Yesterday there was an improvement (54% to 69%) in my success in TAKING CARE OF MYSELF. I still have a way to go to get back to a level that feels good.

I recognize that I am still in surgery recovery mode (day #8). I recognize that raising teens can be a joy but also stressful. I recognize DH mental clarity is reduced and requires constant monitoring. These are some of the current ongoing factors that are constantly vying to distract my attention from TAKE CARE OF MYSELF focus. This isn't a complaint or excuse but just recognition that sometimes it is easier and sometimes it is harder. Regardless of the level of effort required and the level of success, I just don't want to give up.

LadyM … it’s important to recognize the home stress that affect you. All are genuine concerns, and sometime life just gets in your way. Give yourself some grace. It happens to me too.. whether it’s my migraines, hernia flare ups or dealing with Sweetie on a daily bases, all can interfere with my focus on myself. I get off track too. What’s important is at some point you can regain your focus and continue on.

Perhaps there are ways you can reduce some of your stress. You remind me of my mil who was raised on the farm and cooked and prepared big meals for her family… hot meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. When my sons father married me he expected the same, and when I tried to serve him sandwiches for lunch he got mad and we had our first big fit. I told him if he wanted hot meals for his lunch he could go back and live with his mother!

I can not be around a lot of food with out taking bites or tastes while I cook. Those for me add up. Long ago I first started holding a pencil across my mouth while cooking so I couldn’t do that. Later I switched to using a carrot. Because I cook differently for Sweetie and myself, I realized I was taking bites of Sweeties food while I either made it, or when I went to put leftovers away. Making pizza or ziti that I recently made is an example.

As hard as it is I finally acknowledge what I was doing and am working very hard at elimination this habit.

be around a lot of food without taking bites or tastes
This can be a challenging one for me!

A while ago I started using the one bite rule. I can take one bite of anything without logging it into Cronometer. However, if I take a second bite (or more) then I must log it.
Most of the time that rule is the boundary that works well for me. I don't feel deprived because I get to taste anything that looks good and enjoy that one bite. Since I cook for the family without a recipe most of the time, I use that one bite to tell me if something else needs to be added to the dish. IMHO the first bite of a treat tastes the best.

Today is my birthday and I have been pondering whether I want to eat all my favorite foods today. Most especially do I want to eat potato chips today? My biggest food addiction and craving is chips. I don't have an off button, and boundaries don't work for chips. If there are potato chips in the house, then I eat them. The only way I can control my chip addiction is to never have potato chips in the house.
As i considered the decision to eat chips on my birthday I am thinking about the instant enjoyment but also acknowledging that I always feel lousy afterward. I'm not sure what I will decide other than I know if I do decide to eat chips today, I will at least not buy the biggest bag of chips.

Another day of making an effort to TAKE CARE OF MYSELF. I have still not resumed doing all my healthy habits though.

I made healthy food decisions yesterday. I thought about eating chips yesterday morning when i posted here but then i forgot about them. Chips were not important enough to me to make an effort to get them. #SmallWins
