I wonder how toast was a usual part of breakfast for so many very slim folks during my youth. With butter and jelly, no less.
Interesting observation.
As I think back in my youth, our breakfast included biscuits (made from scratch with 3 ingredients), butter (made from raw fresh milk) and jelly (fruit picked by us and canned). In winter we included a bowl of oatmeal or grits. Also a glass of raw milk at almost every meal.
Now it seems rare for most foods to be made from scratch & containing only basic ingredients.
What food I ate growing up and what my grandkids eat are vastly different.

Easy…because before 1972 there was no corn syrup in all our foods and people hardly ate fast or processed food. No frozen pizzas or deliveries, no McDonalds on every corner and sodas were considered a treat. Even our ketsup has corn syrup in it and our cereals were either oatmeal, rice crispiest, shredded wheat and corn flakes.

Yesterday Goals -
Another day of good eating. 40% protein. 100% RDA of mineral/vitamins
MOVE MY BODY
Reviewing numbers from yesterday. How did I do?
** Micronutrients goal met - 100% of the 84 vitamin/minerals RDA achieved SUCCESS!
** Macronutrients goal met. 40% of the food I ate was protein. SUCCESS!
** Moving my body goal. Not met. It is absolutely easier when able to go outside but it can still be accomplished. NOT MY BEST EFFORT.

I didn't move much yesterday either LadyM. Being in a class from 10:30 to 6 will do that. I had an hour break at lunch and 15 min in a.m. and afternoon so ddog got a walk before class, and at 4 p.m. break. I was a little late in getting back then. With this bitter cold, I'm not sure I want to walk period.

I am back on track with meeting my daily health goals. Day #5 happened.

My weight loss continues to be extremely slow. This is where comparing myself to others does me harm. I look at how fast others are able to lose weight, and then my amount of weight loss looks tiny in comparison. I get discouraged and start thinking "why bother".

This is when my love of numbers helps me. I look back on where I was a month ago, 3 months ago, 6 months ago and I suddenly become grateful that I stuck with it even if it is slow. I am on track to lose 1.53% of my body weight this month. The numbers inspire and motivate me to keep on keeping on. Slow is better than nothing or gaining. So......slow & steady it is.

((((RR)))

When I saw this TT video, I thought of our recent H&F chat about food we ate in our youth and the difference now.

Here is a website I recently discovered that does price check on prescription medication. I have no personal knowledge about it but found it fascinating so wanted to share in case you are interested.

I am having success on my chosen path to take care of myself with boundaries in place. It feels comfortable which tells me it is time to challenge myself. I will think about it for a day or so and then modify my goals.

I was thinking about focusing on the % of body weight change instead of lbs. Why didn't I do this in the past instead of focusing on lbs gained or lost?

1.5% of 300 lbs is 4.5 lbs
1.5% of 250 lbs is 3.8 lbs
1.5% of 200 lbs is 3.0 lbs
1.5% of 150 lbs is 2.3 lbs
1.5% of 100 lbs is 1.5 lbs

A person could lose the same % of their weight but the pounds could be triple as much.

I asked AI which is best and it said....
Percentage of Body Weight Change:
Best for health tracking and relative progress.
Proportional to your size, but less tangible and requires math.
Number of Pounds Changed:
Best for simplicity and motivation.
Easy to track, but doesn’t account for starting weight or context.
Which is Best?
Use percentage for health-focused goals, pounds for straightforward motivation, or combine both for a balanced approach. Depends on your preference and goals!

LadyM, you prompted me to pull up my spreadsheet. I've lost 4.3 of my original body weight. It's doesn't feel like much right now when I'm feeling stalled but it does add up doesn't it? I am exercising but I could be eating better - more protein, more varied foods, and more water.

This week is a bust with steps - too many cold days when I didn't want to walk and extra lap or two, or didn't do much back and forth within the house. I need 5500 today to make it to 49000 steps - 7K average a day. It's not too shabby but I'd like to step it up to 8K daily. I don't get as many steps in with my workout. I do 10 min on treadmill to start, and sometimes go back on treadmill for some cardio work. In the early days of working out tho, I was winded a lot from the strength exercises and trainer always had me "walk a lap or two" around the room to catch my breath.
