Thinking Through Thursday

Through the day, wise thoughts assist us. We make sure we're not just thinking about. We are certain to think things through. As homemakers, we balance well. We balance our time and move to another "occupation" when we're overwhelmed at some puzzle, or realize we'll do our best by alternating our attention between tasks. A change of occupation is rest, and we thoughtfully move back to the tougher task, renewed.

Hoping everyone feels renewed some time today, and looks back at a wise balance of thinking through Thursday.

The events yesterday left me sad. I hope I can focus today on WHB.

I haven't done WHB entirely in several weeks, in part, because of the last two Thursday holidays.

I didn't get my steps in yesterday - in part because vet appt took two hours and it was dark when I got home and I put my pajamas on for comfort.

I hope Lynlee's day has been great.

I woke with a nightmare and then because I couldn't immediately go back to sleep from it remembered the events yesterday and just quit sleeping altogether.

Anyway, it continues as Desk Day today after off-track day yesterday, which may be the norm through tomorrow as I finish off treasurer work as much as possible before the in-person meeting with the incoming treasurer. Also, I have some household Desk Day. I also have an order in for the pickup of groceries.

So I'm hoping I can continue as I have been, back and forth between tasks and being grateful for changes of occupation every once in a while.

Sent the recommendation of "Tutor Me" from yesterday on to my ds and dd in case the grands could benefit.

Morning...

I had a wonderful time yesterday at the care center. Frank, the mule officially joined the center. However he may become a member of a mule retirement farm at some point. Like I said before I truly hope that happens as as much as it loves all the scratches he get, I still believe he’s lonely.

The care center is butted up against a huge ridge in the desert. Remember in the old cowboy movies where the cowboys would look up a ridge and find it lined with Indians? Well just make them horses instead. On the other side of the ridge lies a huge valley something I’ve never seen in all my hiking, and It is surrounded with many Palo Verde trees. Many bands of horses like to send time there. We provide several vey large water troughs for the horses. It’s also a feed area.

We provide feed in out of way places that the public doesn’t know about because we are experiencing a sever drought and without it, the horses will die. In better times the valley would bloom and be covered in natural grass which the horses eat. We have gone almost 300 days without rain.

Yesterday I was asked to walk down into the valley to check the water tanks. There were more than a 100 horses in it. Some were standing and many were laying down and wining themselves. Even the top of the ridge was filled with horses. And as I went down the ridge making my way between horses I could see in the far distance an other large band entering the valley. They travel in a line with the lead mare in the front with the stallion being up the rear. The beauty of it all was almost overwhelming for me.

Once I made it to the water tanks I needed to see how much water was left. Each trough hold 200 gallons of well water which is filled in the early morning. By 1:00pm they were almost empty. There were several stallions drinking from both and this was the first time I had to venture this close to them so I could check the water levels. It was a bit scary but thrilling at times as there were other horses there as well.

I approached them calm, quiet but cautious. I could have touched several horses at any time, and for a newbie it was quite an experience. The horse eased away and I was able to check the water leaves. Several minutes after moving a bit away, two stallions decided to bully each other and a fight between them began.

When these horses fight they rear on their high legs, bearing their teeth and go after each other again and again. Eventually it turns in to a hind leg kicking match and eventually one stallion gives. I’ve seen this behavior from afar but never this close and personal. I have no way to describe the sounds as the stallions fight.

I will remember this day for a long time.

I have a few errands today. After I started my coffee, I went back in my bedroom and got dressed and made my bed so I am ready for the day. I knew I would be tired when I got home last night so dinner was leftovers. I really had to force myself to clean the kitchen afterwards and I was in bed reading by 6:30.

Waving to y’all... of to start my day

Dh just came home with the groceries ( I haven't set foot in the grocery store in weeks or perhaps it's 'months'.) He did pretty well -except paid too much for tomatoes I think. Think there's 3 and he paid $4.51. :o So I will relish my tomato sandwich today. We'll have BLT's sometime this week.

It's a busy week for dd so maybe tomorrow. Or not -just remembered dh and dd have an Orlando hockey game tomorrow night. They'll leave here by 4 or so. She called this morning looking for a letter regarding "teledoc" which she needed to make contact on her computer for her first Covid self-test. She thought she had to swab her cheek but turns out she has to fill a vial with 'spit'. Then it has to be sent out UPS by 4. She'll barely make that since she has TSA with students till 3:30. She's told them she absolutely has to leave on time today. After today she can do it at home on Mondays & Thursdays -can't eat or drink 1/2 hour before doing the test so she'll do it first thing. Then dh can take it to UPS for her -taking a picture of it with the shipping label each time. Who knew they could do a test like this?

Dh has spent money like water this morning. He stopped at L owe's first and picked up wire & supplies to put a new plug in dd's counter at the left end. There's always been one in the right end so why they didn't do both when they were doing it is beyond us. But then there's lots of strange quirks here and there. There's still a couple of wall switches that we have no idea what they go to. Did find out one was for a second switch to dd's fan/light when dh put up their new fan.

Happy Birthday Lynlee! I hope you are having a nice day.

I am sticking close to my phones as I have phone visit with my Dr. in 20 minutes and her nurse usually calls first. I have my notes close by.

Been working on paper stacks. Threw away a lot of things, mostly old hospital stay papers no longer needed. I put away the tax form stuff.

Need to bring in laundry and put away. Not much going on today after this appointment. I wish I had a good book to read. I'm not focusing on yesterday's current events, mostly because I really understand it, and wish it hadn't happened but I'm not really surprised. Like a volcano, pressure can build up and up and up and at some point it blows!

I think this year of the pandemic has everybody on edge too. We're all so weary of everything.
