We chat here about all aspects of health, with an eye to building strength for the calling of Homemaker. Taking care of ourselves is vital, but it also means a better chance at taking care of those around us. We hope you will join us.
February is designated as Heart Healthy Month. Heart disease is the number one killer of women (and men, for that matter) in the United States. The CDC suggests the following steps to lower our chance of heart disease:
Manage your stress levels. Find healthy ways to lower your stress levels. Learn more about coping with stress.
Know your blood pressure. High blood pressure has no symptoms, so it's important to have your blood pressure checked regularly.
Check for diabetes. Talk to your healthcare provider about whether you should be tested for diabetes. Having uncontrolled diabetes raises your risk of heart disease.
Know your cholesterol status. Knowing your cholesterol status can help you stay in control of your health.
Quit smoking. If you don't smoke, don't start. If you do smoke, learn about how to quit.
Be physically active. Try to get at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of physical activity each week. Not getting enough physical activity can lead to heart disease.
Choose healthy foods and drinks. Be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and eat fewer processed foods.
Limit how much alcohol you drink. Women of legal drinking age should either avoid alcohol or drink one or less alcoholic drink per day.
Of course, we are old pros at most of these but a reminder never hurts!

Twins - Thank you for starting H&F for the new month. The information about women heart being #1 cause of death sent me down a rabbit hole of research and learning. I confess to thinking cancer is the biggest health threat but quickly learned I was wrong.
I reviewed the month of January health data and compared it with the past 6 months of detailed data. I continue to make baby step progress in improving my health.
I am trying to enlarge my viewpoint to look at progress made over a year. If I made similar progress every month for a year, how would the outcome appear? That viewpoint amplifies my baby step progress into impressive outcome.
Losing 1.4lbs a month doesn't sound very impressive.
However, repeating that same small progress over the entire year of 2025 will put me at my dream weight.
February health goals - (Weekly averaging)
** 37% protein or more
** 1200 calories or less
** 4000 steps or more
** 6 hours of movement or more
** 8 hours sleep or more
** 100oz liquid or more

I am embracing the new middle digit appearing on my scales this morning. This is the 3rd change of middle digit since I started tracking my food in July. A quick search of my records show the last time this weight happened was 2018.
***Celebrating the moment***
Not wanting to sidetrack myself. My job is about the boring details. Keeping my mind in a good place to enable me to TAKE CARE OF MYSELF. Making the best & consistent healthy choices for my body and mind.

Confetti and streamers coming down all over the place here, LadyM. Whoops, here's a noisemaker to toot so we can celebrate with you!
I made my step goal this week, barely, but I made it.

Anyone can get healthier, no matter the starting point. You just have to believe, want to improve, and take action.
Doing a cut/paste from article I just read while scrolling.
Posting for accountability. I am choosing to focus on taking care of myself today.

LadyM… I’m definitely focusing on myself. Stayed on my eating plan last night with the exception of a small piece of cheesecake. Ate out for our 25th anniversary of being together and it was a celebration night!
I had over 10k steps yesterday and 5.5 miles on Friday. I’ve already met my 10k steps today by noon.

Staying focused on taking the best care of myself today.
I just exported everything I ate since July 5th. I have no idea what I am going to do with this data. However, I do love numbers, learning and challenges. Win! Win! Win!

Been working around the house and working to get my steps in as well
I’ve decided not to check my Facebook first thing in the mornings, only checking my phone for messages. Surfing around randomly first thing in the morning eats up too much of my time. Same with watching tv, with the exception of the morning news and weather. That will take up less than an hour of my time depending on when I get up.
Taking a break… ate a large healthy breakfast around 11:00 so I’ll consider it lunch. Did a load of laundry and put it all away. Need to do a few kitchen things and then need to write a few emails and get my grocery list ready
Sweetie and I are joining our friends this Friday night for a Valentine party at our clubhouse. There will be 12 of us at our table and I’ve been asked to bring crackers and dip. Want to get my recipes out to see what I need to make them and add the ingredients to my list.
Waving to y’all.

Staying focused. Today I am choosing to do my best at taking care of myself.
I acknowledge that I won't do it perfectly, but I will be advocating for myself. Part of that process is to set boundaries and gain clarity.
I have started reading 100 days of Weight Loss by Linda Spangle again. I like the format of this book because it basically presents 100 ideas of taking care of myself. I don't 100% agree with every one of them but it forces me to stop and think. Why don't I agree with this particular recommendation? What do I believe and am willing to do about >>>insert an idea<<<<?
