Art, Craft and Needlework, March, 2025

Post by Harriet »

It's March, that month that whooshes us back into the house for cozy activities sometimes, invites us out to play outdoors at other times.

We can find creativity both ways! For instance, blessed is chilly, but creatively planning colorful flower beds, down to starting seeds herself.

The month reminds me of BookSaver's March challenges in which she would sew every day, even if it was just one seam each day.

She had shared:

Please note that I didn't say 1 project, or even a minimum number of minutes. One seam.
Even if all I have time to do is 1 side of a little cat mat. One seam.

:)

She was quite successful with those challenges, sometimes reporting she'd barely done a seam, other times reporting that she'd gotten caught up in a project after a little while and nearly finished it.

Are you consistent? Able to be stick-to-itive? What are your obstacles (bet we can all relate!).

Do you have any finished projects to tell about this month? We would love to hear.

I have worked on hot pads set today as much as I can but had to take a breath
and rest up a bit my arm needed a break as I'd been out in the back yard first.
----
Finished up that set red & white.
I have done 5 or 6 so far one for dd.
Others for food baskets in the fall.
Shoulder was better after a rest.

Today figuring out the next few sets what ones are done and colors I have to work with for complimentary
stripes is rather fun.

------
Thinking on blue fabric jelly roll projects to do up maybe more lined bags.

Speaking of lining I did not find low loft batting or white flannel at JoAnns or Walmart last week
could be changing that to denim / or Amz. order for the batting.

----
Harriet I wanted to mention that I saw islands with out cars on PBS gals doing embroidery with out hoops!

Finished up the green set of hot pads and dish cloths yea!

-----
Now some teal ones to work up dish cloths are done and l'm doing up hot pads this week on these.
and one more dish cloth.

Next the blue - green ones need hot pads . Worked on one and touq. with white stripe is needed as touq. color yarn is low.
To the white part on the first hot pad now. 1st one Done.

After that I have one fall color dish cloth done and need the next dish cloth to do up
and 2 hot pads.I did up a yellow dish cloth for the 2nd one on this set.

I counted and am past the half way point on these yea!
-----
Twins I checked and did not see it sometimes they have it & some times not. It comes and goes in and out of stock.
I have some on my wish list on Amz.
Might used denim to line it and then will not need batting.

Nancy, Walmart used to have quilt batting, I haven't been in the their craft area in years but you might check there if you have one near.

I think gals must be stocking up on quilt supplies these days before summer gets here.
In the past I've used sheets for backing on them.

I have finished up one of the periwinkle blue dish cloths that was a fun color to work with.
I got a green hot pad done to go with the green dish cloths one more hot pads to make for this set.

Made two bags for hot pads & dish clothes were too small but now I know that
the need to be 10" sq. apx.

Finished a dish cloth 2nd in the periwinkle set.
Also the greenk 2nd hot pads completed that set to go with the dish cloths yea!

I have started the white to be striped in fun summery colors next. One is done one more started to finished this set.

Then the periwinkle blue hot pads.

I'll take a break after these and sew up some bags count the sets.
So the bags for these sets need to be about 14" square still trying to get them big enough.
It was windy today so glad for this inside activity today.
Might consider a sewing retreat.

Some one should do some floors LOL! Maybe tomorrow or I could just begin and do one room.
Did the floors first thing on Fri. morning.

Have figured out how the smaller project won't need hand work after all, unless I do some for finishing. Some cutting would be next for that, and picking out binding and backing. I want a deep red and I have some but am wondering if it's enough.

Finished arranging the units to complete the main blocks left to do on the plaid scrap quilt top.

Nancy, once I used a sheet for the backing of a quilt and I don't dislike it or anything - it may not be my favorite but it's fine. A little harder to sew through than others, but the only place I did hand sewing was around the binding, so it wasn't such a big deal. To hand-quilt much when using a sheet for backing, I would probably test how the needle went through for me, whether it seemed hard to sew.

Some one should do some floors LOL!

I resemble that remark.

I have been in the sewing mood this week after getting fun new fabrics.
Played with some ones I had on hand too.
After three too small bag attempts found the 12" x 15" is a great size bigger is better.
This piece worked well and I gave it look like mini pillow case hem.
Plus as a bonus found my bag of ribbons for the draw string.
It is taking me a bit to get back in to the rhythm of doing these but with only 12 to do up
it will not take that long now that I have the size closer to what I want it's great!

Alrighty I have been in the sewing zone and I think I have enough cut to finish up these bags now!
Yea! I'll work on one or two a day till I get em done. They do not take long to seam up.

My current craft project (I hope it qualifies as such! :D ) is renovating a 1950s dolls house. It started as a project to keep me occupied over the winter months, but , like many projects it has ballooned.

So far, I've done those parts of the outside that needed attention, put new flooring and lighting in, and more or less finished the main bedroom. The other rooms are a work in progress!

I'm listing progress room by room (and the history of some of the furniture manufacturers) in a blog:

https://kittykattsdollshouse.blogspot.com/

which hopefully I'll keep updating on a regular basis. :D
