Re: Mashed Potatoes Monday @ TDD - C&C
Mashed potato or mashed potatoes (American, Canadian, and Australian English), colloquially known as mash (British English), is a dish made by mashing boiled or steamed potatoes, usually with added milk, butter, salt, and pepper. It is generally served as a side dish to meat or vegetables. Roughly mashed potatoes are sometimes called smashed potatoes.
Mashed potatoes are a Christmas staple due to their comforting, classic nature, versatility with gravy and other meats, ease of making in large batches for crowds, and historical roots as an affordable, hearty food that became central to festive feasts like Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners in America and the UK. They offer a "triple carb" indulgence perfect for holiday celebrations, symbolizing tradition, family, and a return to comforting basics.

Re: Mashed Potatoes Monday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for the start. Mmm, mashed potatoes with plenty of butter!
Fun fact, the "Mashed Potato" was the name of a dance craze in 1962.
https://share.google/ker7kkIWmtuuwr7kZ
Today DH goes to the office, someone is coming to hopefully fix the dining table, and, along with the housework, I need to do some present wrapping! DNeighbour S will also be coming to finish paint our side of his fence today (weather permitting!) or tomorrow, if it's wet today.
I also have the spectre of BIL's visit hanging over me - he arrives Friday, and leaves Sunday (I hope!) It's also DH's birthday on Sunday - fortunately, I have his birthday presents wrapped!

Sleep well,.Gma! You're right about using real potatoes (I prefer Maris Piper or Desiree for mashing, King Edwards for roasting. IMHO, Golden Wonder make the *very* best roast potatoes but they're very hard to get!) We'll be having baked ham with mashed potatoes and other veg on Christmas Eve, but for a more every day meal, I like sausages, baked beans and mashed potato. Sometimes, with a little parsnip mashed in as well, which gives a nice flavour.

Re: Mashed Potatoes Monday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning!
trissie ~ thanks for the start.
Doggedly ~ wtg on finding your 8$ ticket! I love it when that happens!
kitty ~ I'm a little jealous of your potato choices. We have russet, golden, red, & white. yeah.. pretty boring. And we do have baby potatoes, and fingerlings. And sweet potatoes. I want names like Imperial.
Did you get a choice of paint color on your side of the fence?
Mashed potatoes are one of my favorite foods. My fave "recipe" is boiling them with a clove of garlic, a stalk of celery, bay leaf, and salt. Whipped up with 1/2 & 1/2, butter, & salt & pepper. My fave topping is butter. It was a staple for Sunday dinners along with homemade fried chicken when I was growing up. My second favorite is mixed with butternut squash and seasoned with salt, pepper & cumin - which I recently posted.

Re: Mashed Potatoes Monday @ TDD - C&C
Woke up at 0'Dark Thirty - 3 am. Couldn't go back to sleep so I finally got up.
Got a bit of a busy day.
• look at more tubs online. I've got about 1/2" clearance from the door with the one I'm looking at.
• Call contractor to see if he'll meet us to talk about the tub situation.
• cancel an appointment
• go back over Xmas catalogues
• gym?
• make appointment with supply place to solidify choices
• Find out about paying these places. Not sure where in the process that happens.
• pack
• head to Indy to stay overnight for an early morning flight out to NC. Be back Thursday night.
Need to look at stone. Talk to stone guy. Talk to landscaping guy. Meet with garage door guy. Look at what's done overall at the house. I woke up thinking about the floor. I got talked into a way darker stain than what I originally wanted. If it's not done yet, I'm going to have them refrain from staining it till I come back and look at the natural wood first. Nobody will be happy with me about that, I imagine. But hey.. it's my floor, and I'll have to look at it for the next 20 years (hopefully).

Re: Mashed Potatoes Monday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, Smilelee! I do hope you can get the floor situation sorted out. As you say, you'll be the one living with it! I did "help" choose the paint colour for the fence about 6 months ago -S is painting both sides of a very long tall, fence - and suggested a medium brown colour, close to the original colour of the wood, would be unobtrusive, and wear well (I really, really did not want bright blue, red, or what ever the current trend is, as, although it can look pretty when it's done, once it starts to weather and the original wood shows through, it can look shabby quickly. ) The colour S has picked is a bit darker than I would have picked, but once the plants start growing again in the spring, it won't really be obtrusive, and I'm just grateful it's not bright blue!
It's raining today, so no fence painting is taking place, but Freddie has been for his walk, and I've had a few minutes picking up leaves in my front garden. Ive also done a quick PUPA in the sitting room and cleaned up the kitchen, so it looks respectable ready for when MJ comes to look at the table. He's running a bit late, so I'm tackling some admin tasks and having lunch while I wait.
